Il calcio d’inizio della terza edizione del Frontiers Rock Festival lo daranno i NO HOT ASHES, una Melodic Rock band formata nei primi anni 80 a Belfast. Siglati nel 1988 alla GWR Records (etichetta – tra gli altri – di Motorhead, Sword, Girlschool e Lita Ford), i NO HOT ASHES, dopo alcuni gig in supporto a Mama’s Boys e Magnum, furono costretti a sciogliersi, in seguito a vari problemi con la label che non pubblicò mai il loro esordio. Uno ad uno i membri della band tornarono in Irlanda del Nord. Sorprendentemente sono ritornati insieme nel 2013, per uno show di tributo ad uno dei più noti club Rock di Belfast, il “Rosetta” e anche per ricordare il loro manager, che nel frattempo era deceduto prematuramente. Evidentemente si sono divertiti parecchio, e non sono riusciti più a fermarsi… visto che dall’inizio del 2014 sono apparsi in gig di supporto nientemeno che ad Aerosmith, Foreigner, FM ed UFO! Hanno anche suonato in vari Festival in Gran Bretagna tra cui l’Hard Rock Hell AOR, il Download, il London Calling, il Ramblin' Man, lo Steelhouse e buon ultimo il Rockingham lo scorso ottobre! Suonano e si sentono ancora molto legati alle sonorità anni 80… Così dopo aver registrato alcuni demo, la band ha mandato il materiale alla Frontiers, che ha apprezzato molto quello che ha ascoltato (musica con forti radici nel British Melodic Rock à la FM, Heartland, Def Leppard e un tocco di Bon Jovi). Frontiers li ha così messi sotto contratto e il debut album sarà finalmente disponibile in tempo per il Festival!
Kicking off the Third edition of Frontiers Rock Festival is NO HOT ASHES: a melodic rock group who formed in early ‘80’s in Belfast. The band got signed to GWR Records in 1988 (label of Motorhead, Sword, Girlschool and Lita Ford among others), but after supporting the likes of Mama’s Boys and Magnum, some problems with getting their debut album released, brought dissolution and one-by-one band members returned home to Northern Ireland. They eventually got back together in 2013 to pay tribute to one of the most well known rock clubs in Belfast, called the Rosetta and to their late manager who passed away. Apparently they enjoyed playing again so much… they couldn’t stop and since the beginning of 2014 they’ve supported Aerosmith, Foreigner, FM and UFO plus played the Hard Rock Hell AOR, Download, London Calling, Ramblin' Man and Steelhouse festivals and most recently Rockingham! They still sound and feel like a classic 80’s rock band and after tracking new demos, the band sent the material to Frontiers who loved what they heard (strongly rooted in the classic tradition of British Melodic Rock à la FM, Heartland, Def Leppard and Bon Jovi) and signed them for the release of a new record which will be available by the Festival!

Formed in 1986 by former the former American Tears, Touch, and Michael Bolton keyboard player Mark Mangold, together with vocalist/guitarist Al Fritsch (ex TZR), Drive She Said are a true legend amount the AOR and Melodic Rock fans in Europe. Their debut album (which featured guest appearances by artists such as multi-instrumentalist Aldo Nova, Tony Bruno, Bob and Bruce Kulick (Kiss), Kenny Aronoff, Benny Mardones, Fiona and many others) is still ranked as one of the most exciting AOR releases of the decade! It soon became a bit of a cult in the UK and the band managed to release two more albums with british label MFN. Then – a few years later – Frontiers came in the picture and released 2 more albums with the band, plus involved Mangold in the SIGN supergroup (together with members of Zebra, Rainbow, Kansas and Strangeways). Drive She Said are now back full force and are recording a new album which will see the light of day in the spring of 2016. Il 16 maggio 2010, il singer di origini italiane ci ha purtroppo lasciato, dopo avere combattuto una dura battaglia contro un cancro allo stomaco, decretando di fatto la fine dei DIO. Quasi 30 anni dopo, la band autrice della trilogia iniziale dei DIO si è riunita nella sua formazione originale, comprensiva di Vivian Campbell (ora chitarrista dei Def Leppard), Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath) e Jimmy Bain (Rainbow), con l'aggiunta del potentissimo vocalist Andrew Freeman, con l'intento di scrivere un'altra pagina leggendaria nella storia della musica Hard Rock! Nonostante la recente scomparsa di Jimmy Bain, la band si esibirà comunque anche per tributare la memoria del band mate scomparso. “Last In Line” means so much for all Hard Rock and Heavy Metal music lovers: it's the title of one of the best albums ever released in this genre, a true masterpiece that Ronnie James Dio and his band gave his fans in 1984. On May 16, 2010, the popular singer lost his battle against cancer and the band DIO ended its glorious story. Some 30 years later, the band that created the initial trilogy of DIO albums reunited in its original line-up (comprising of Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell, drummer Vinny Appice and bassist Jimmy Bain, plus the powerhouse new singer Andrew Freeman) with the purpose to write another legendary chapter in the history of Hard Rock music! Notwithstanding he recent unfortunate passing of Jimmy Bain, the band will anyway perform as a tribute to the memory of their unfortunate band mate. With a studio-album coming out in February, the band will perform at the Frontiers Rock Festival with an exclusive show for Europe where they will play brand new songs and some immortal classics from the repertoire. TREAT “Ghost of Graceland” (Frontiers Music s.r.l.) After the well-received ‘Coup De Grace’ in 2012 (at one point it was to be their last) , any follow up from the Swedish melodic rocks needed to be very special. Fortunately this CD is. It doesn’t bang you on the head initially in the way its predecessor did. Instead, it’s more subtle and takes more time to get under your skin, but it does if you let it. Treat have always had an eye on the competition and their sound has changed through the years, toughening up as the 80s went on and with ‘Coup de Grace’ they showed the new wave of Scandinavian rock bands they could match them in terms of tunes and energy. What has never changed though is their ability to pen insanely catchy, multi-layered choruses that are the epitome of Scandi melodic rock. The production includes riffs, keyboards and strings to add variety and depth. The tougher ‘I Don’t Miss The Misery’ and ‘Inferno’, the big chorus of ‘Better The Devil’, the modern teen appeal of ‘Do Your Own Stunts’, the defiant ‘Too Old To Die Young’ and the terrific ballad ‘Together Alone’ are just some of the highlights on a consistently strong album. SHIRAZ LANE “For Crying Out Loud” (Frontiers Music s.r.l.) Like a bat out hell comes Finland’s Shiraz Lane with their no nonsense Sleaze driven Hard Rock. Like all good bands Shiraz Lane made their mark in the clubs of Finland with their take no prisoners approach. Such was the buzz of their two track single in 2014 and the subsequent EP release in 2015, that they have become a darlings of the underground scene, with support slots alongside Santa Cruz throughout Finland. That resulted in a deal with Frontiers Records Srl for this their debut album. For an old Hair Metal and Sleaze fan who grew up with likes of Crue, LA Guns and the like, it’s great to hear the Scandinavian quarter once again bringing back this sleazy driven rock to the masses, including those new young fans and of course, us older ones who still pine for those hedonistic days of old. This album delivers on so many areas it’s hard to pick out individual tracks. It’s like trying to pick your favourite child. But if I had to then ‘House of Cards’, the single ‘Wake Up’, the groove filled ‘Mental Slavery’ and the closer ‘M.L.N.W.’ with its LA Guns feel would have to some of the many, many highlights I’d choose. This is a great album and with the band also appearing at this years Frontiers Fest, I for one will be heading down the front to catch these guys! (BM 96/100)
DRIVE, SHE SAID “Pedal to the Metal” (Frontiers Music s.r.l.) ‘Pedal To The Metal’ is long awaited true comeback album for Drive She Said. The Mangold / Fritsh duo finally came out of their hiatus and were united for this stunning slice of pure Melodic Rock gold. ‘Petal to the Metal’ may have a title that squeals Hard Rock or even Metal, but fear not, the duo have stuck to what they know best, good hook filled Melodic Rock. The opener ‘Touch’ really gets the ball rolling. A great driven lick opens things up and from here on in, there is no turning back. Things continue with the title track as a massive keyboard intro really brings that melody rich rock we know and love to the forefront. The album continues to impress with the likes of the ballad ‘Said It All’, the dirty riff rocker ‘Writing On The Wall’, the powerful and epic feeling ‘Rain Of Fire’ and ‘IM The Nyte’ showing a diversity of duo and their willingness to take the genre ever forward, before closing with another great ballad ‘All I Wanna Do’. This may have been a long time coming, but this has been well worth the wait and is one of the standout albums in the genre this year. I can’t wait to see the band performing live at this year’s Frontiers Rock Festival. (BM 95/100)
THE DEFIANTS “S/T” (Frontiers Music s.r.l.) How far does a suggestion from the President of Frontiers Music go? It goes all across the globe, as The new group “The Defiants” has been formed out of the ashes of a very popular band from the late 80’s and 90’s! Three former band mates of “Danger Danger” have started to work together, as a result of a suggestion from Serafino Perugino.Paul Laine, best known for his Vocal Work with ‘Danger Danger’ has reunited with Bruno Ravel, and Rob Marcello and invited Van Romaine to join and keep this new musical heart beating! The self titled debut is certainly not ‘Danger Danger’ under a different name… It may come from the same musical space, but indeed it is a progression, a mature musical organ, one that creates glorious rhythms and pulsating beats capped with soaring vocals! Bruno’s keyboards are the work of a Master, and he doubles on Bass as well! The lead fret work of Mr. Marcello just elevates the super sonics we hear on this collection! And, of course Paul Laine’s pipes wear so well, he hits every note in his vast vocal range… Perfectly! It is grand to hear these three working together again! Offering us more of that huge sound that played so well in the late 1980’s and the 90’s! Now, speaking of playing, “The Defiants” are ready for the road, beginning with a special appearance at the Frontiers Annual Rock Festival in late April. (BA 98/100)

This is a debut symphonic metal album, not from Europe as you might expect but from the U.S. The music is solid, well played, the guitar work is fluid and melodic. The drums rarely let up on the double bass drum while keyboards add orchestral pomp over the top. So far fairly typical, but it’s the voice of Raine Hilai that makes them stand out. She is a classically trained soprano and has been involved in musical theatre which is what comes through here. She has very high pitched vocals which add an unusually poppy element amidst the metal, reminding me of 90s artist Leah Andreone. This voice will split opinion I’m sure; some will love it and some will hate it. Personally, I felt it was at times at odds with the music. Nevertheless ‘Signs of Fire’ has a good hook as does the lengthy title track which closes the record. ‘Lantern’ shows a more folk approach where Raine Hilai duets with a male vocal and the hard riffing ‘Like An Eternity’ are the highlights. If not convinced by symphonic metal this won’t change your opinion but for fans of Nightwish and Delain this is worth checking out. DJ (82/100)
After being forged by fire and almost being fatally burned in the process “Human Fortress” made a spectacular return to the Melodic Metal scene. “Thieves Of The Night” hits the scene full of power and is uncompromising. Standing strong and true, this the group’s fifth full length album has a clear message: “Human Fortress” is back and back to stay! “Thieves Of The Night” continues in the same vein as 2013’s “Raided Land”, featuring new vocalist Gus Monsanto. This new album finds Gus cementing his influence on the band, and we have twelve very powerful Metal jewels that border on Epic! With such musical journeys as “Smite On The Anvil”, Last Prayer To The Lord” and, of course, others, the messages are crystal clear and as powerful as the music contained within! Melodic Metal reigns supreme in the grooves of this record, all with the power and majesty of each musician’s talents. “Thieves Of The Night” doesn’t let up, the group fires on all six cylinders, creating torrents of Rock forged by fire and tinged with Metal! So 2013 may have been their return, now 2016 will show their supremacy within the Melodic Metal kingdom and hopefully for years to come! BA (90/100)
Over the past few years the world of Metal has seen a definite rise in the number of top quality Melodic / Power-Metal bands and now a new band is ready to make their mark, they are Universal Mind Project. The whole thing was started off by guitarist and composer Michael Alexander, with his vision to bring together musicians from all around the globe for this collaboration, which includes a solid core of Elina Laivera and Henrik Båth on vocals, Michael Alexander on guitars and growls and Alex on drums. There’s additional input from the likes of Nils K Rue, Mark Jansen, Charlie Dominici, Mike Lepond, Diego Valdez and more! This album debut album stands up against any of its peers, as a one of the finest debuts in recent years in this genre. The mix duel vocals with the odd growl from the guitarist, really brings together the Power-Metal elements with the more Melodic Metal in a tight powerful package. From the opener ‘Anthem For Freedom’ to the excellent ‘Awakened By The Light (Universal Mind)’, to the closer ‘Xibalba’ and all points in between, this band has a great future and will make their mark for sure in 2016. If you’re into big riffing Metal with power driven bass lines and duel vocals, then this is the album for you. BM (85/100)
The Swedish power metallers come to shock and awe on this live CD/DVD. The band of choice for tank commandants everywhere, they blast out their war themed metal anthems to a large Wacken audience. At the beginning of the show lead singer Joakim Brodén announces. “We play heavy metal” which of course is true but if you stripped away the pyrotechnics and guitar histrionics what you find are folk songs that soldiers would sing in unison in an ale house before heading off to battle. What would that sound like? A lot like this Wacken audience who sing heartily, adding an extra dimension to the record. There were concerns when three-fifths of the band went AWOL before the making of their last studio album ‘Heroes’. The faithful needn’t have worried as their mission stays the same. Thobbe Englund, Chris Rörland and Hannes van Dahl have the requisite firepower necessary, and songs like ‘To Hell And Back’, ‘Panzerkampf’, and ‘Primo Victoria’ have the audience waving their white flags in submission. Unmistakably European, a bit bonkers and likely to appease those already conscripted to their cause. DJ (88/100)
Following the split-up with singer Ronny Munroe, in 2013, after the release fo the successful “Generation Nothing”, the best news for any fan of the band arrived when it was announced that Mike Howe decided to rejoin METAL CHURCH. Howe played with the band in the late 80’s and released with them three acclaimed albums, such as “The Human Factor”, “Blessing In Disguise” and “Hanging In The Balance”. Recorded in the summer of 2015 at Kurdt Vanderhoof’s studio in Aberdeen, Washington, “XI” features 11 great tracks of pure US Speed-Power Metal that will let any fan of the band happy and proud of their heroes. In Kurdt's own words “Mike’s voice sounds the same as it did two decades ago when we were writing The Human Factor and the band is about as tight as you can possibly get”. A band that never abandoned its own sound and still sounds fresh and heavy as in the '80s - '90s, Metal Church new effort shows the Metal-world how they can still write a very good “old school” Heavy Metal album without compromising. Upon listening the press release is Spot On! Opening with “We Are The Weekend”: ‘InVader’ simply boils! A vast and varied collection of originals, “Reckless Love” stretches each and every strength they have! Their collective talents shine through with a capital ‘S’! This record shows the group embracing a variety of musical styles and melding them into their own version of Melodic Hard Rock. The leadoff single; “Monster” is a very fine example of this type of mixing musical styles. A song that will sit most contentedly in several ‘Music-Charts’. This fourth effort also shows the group flexing their musical muscles in such a way that should result in expanding their audience. “Child Of The Sun” also displays the group’s keen sense of expanding their own musical borders in fact this song may just turn out to be another major breakthrough! “InVader” is a rollicking musical journey one full of surprises and chalk full of catchy rhythms and memorable performances! I will even go as far as to write: “InVader” is a Hard Rock album in which you haven’t heard hard rock played like this before! BA (90/100)
CIRCUS MAXIMUS “Havoc” (Frontiers Music s.r.l.) “Havoc”, the fourth effort from these five progressive minded musicians is a very polished musical affair. Opening with “The Weight” we are taken on a musical journey that is vast in scope, and this just keeps flowing from one musical movement to another. Creating a virtual ocean of sonic brilliance with ‘cut to the chase’ lyrical content. “Havoc” must be listened to, and intently so. These five blend light and dark so expertly, giving us an explosion of musical colours and shades. Each movement is both compelling and immersive. Melody also plays a very important part, as each piece, whether it is heavy or on the lighter side: is central to melody. “Pages” is full of power, and hard hitting, yet a melodic river flows through the song that keeps everything moving forward. What we hear on this recorded Work is definitely Progressive, yet not at all sterile. Like mentioned, many musical shades are present and all wrapped up in warmth and emotion! The group’s label feel that “Havoc” could become ‘Album Of The Year’ in Progressive circles my thoughts go a little further, whereas, quite possible these five could take that honour in the Hard and Melodic Rock circles as well! At the very least, “Circus Maximus” will certainly create some “Havoc” this year!! But all in a good way! (BA 92/100)
THE TREATMENT “Generation Me” (Frontiers Music s.r.l.) “Generation Me” is the brand new effort from UK Rockers, “The Treatment”. Sporting a revised line-up with new Vocalist, Mitchel Emms, and Guitarist Tao Grey, what we are about to hear on this, the group’s third effort, is a fuller and stronger sound. Opening with “Let It Begin” the group sounds revitalised! They have fully explored the hardened Blues/Rock plateau and in the process, unearthed some spectacular gems! Including “Tell Us The Truth”, “Cry Tough” and the title cut “Generation Me”. Almost a tough new sound, this effort will further advance “The Treatment’s career, and to maximise the opportunities that lie before this five piece, they are celebrating their new relationship with Frontiers with this, their first, for the label. A collection of eleven numbers that will certainly delight. Tasty licks surrounded by a pulsating back-rhythm, and emotively wrought vocalisations that will keep any listener enthralled! “Generation Me”…a finely executed slice of Melodic Hard Rock from five UK musicians thought certainly live the Blues. Get ready to get your Treatment!! (BA 90/100)
LORDS OF BLACK “II” (Frontiers Music s.r.l.) The news that Ronnie Romero is to front Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow for their forthcoming shows has drawn attention to these Spanish power metallers. Although Romero has a big, strong voice that’s not what makes the immediate impression on their sophomore release. It’s the thunderous drums, razor sharp riffing and crystal clear modern production from Roland Grapow that impress. A few tinkling keys in the background add some light to the otherwise dark, intense onslaught. There’s some fine guitar work from Tony Hernando on ‘Merciless’, ‘The Ghost Of You’ which starts with acoustic guitar before getting seriously heavy and the blistering ‘Shadows Of War’ that closes the record. You can hear why Blackmore might have chosen Romero listening to a track like ‘Cry No More’ which has a Dio gravitas about it. He has a gruff metal delivery but also possesses an impressive range. ‘Everything You’re Not’ and ‘The Wasteland’ have good hooks but despite other tracks snorting and growling convincingly some choruses don’t pack as much punch as the music does. If they had, it would have helped lift this album above the rest of the power metal competition. (DJ 90/100)
ROYAL HUNT “Cargo” (Frontiers Music s.r.l.) Following the release of their latest studio album, Royal Hunt set about promoting the album with appearances at ProgPower USA, Loud Park Japan and Rockingham UK. With the next tour set for spring of this year, the band found time to take the best of their recent live performances and put them together over ninety minutes of pure sonically charged Royal Hunt at their live best on a double live album. The album includes a full rendition of the bands fourth studio album ‘Paradox’ concept album, as well as two of their finest slices of Symphonic Prog Metal with ‘May You Never Walk Alone’ and the massive ‘A Life To Die For’. Whole full album concerts seem to be the norm, but when the music and execution are delivered like only Royal Hunt do live, then this makes for some truly remarkable concerts, as this album shows the band at their very best and shows just why DC Cooper was brought back into the band in 2013, because he is the true voice of Royal Hunt for may fans and this albums cements that fact. Second effort from Peo Pettersson, after his solodebut back in 1995 (“Look What I’ve Started”), where he teamed up with members from Masquerade, Niva and other great musicians from Sweden. “Welcome To The Party” is a pure AOR/Melodic Rock album, definitely influenced by the great bands of the '80s and '90s coming from USA (Foreigner, Boston) but also from Sweden (Skagarack, Alien). For this new work, Peo has hooked up with songwriter and guitarist Roger Ljunggren (T’Bell, Niva, Grand Illusion), trying to write and record an album filled with classic melodic rock tunes, full of hooks and memorable harmonies. Peo Pettersson took care of all vocal, bass and keyboard parts on the album, while all guitars have been played by Roger Ljunggren and drums by Tony Morra. An album definitely to check out if you like the softer side of Melodic Rock. PB (88/100)
‘Apocalypse Again’ is the new opus from Finland’s Thunderstone and sees the return of the bands original vocalist Pasi Rantanen, after six years away from the band. The album takes the band back to its roots with Rantanen at the helm, as they wind the clock back to music that made their mark with their self titled debut back in 2002, as they mix the Symphonic with Classic Hard Rock. The big keyboards courtesy of Jukka Karinen, the towering riffs of Nino Laurenne, the powerhouse rhythm section of Titus Hjelm and Atte Palokangas on bass and drums respectively ignite the senses from the off, with the rampaging opener ‘Veterans of the Apocalypse’, with the icing on the cake being the vocal might of Rantanen. The album delivers track after track with the monstrous ‘The Path’ and the excellent ‘Again Through The Rain’, as the band bring in their mellower side with the latter. For all out splendour for me it has to be the superb multi-layered ‘Again Higher’, as that mix of Classic Hard Rock and Symphonic is brought to the forefront. A real masterclass in Symphonia if ever there was one. This is the album the fans have been waiting for, a grandiose opus truly worthy of the Thunderstone name. BM (92/100)
The term ‘Power Metal’ doesn’t do this release justice, as ‘InnerWish’ not only returns with a vengeance they push their own boundaries to the ‘n’th degree! The lyrical subject matter follows the same method of expressions. “Forging walls to prevent ideals…” is how we start out with “Machined Of Fear” a song with a complicated bed of music that is both heavyyet soars, and all the while elevates this musical journey to near epic proportions. Another epic journey is “Needles In My Mind”. A total immersive musical movement that showcases the entire group’s masterful musicianship. Their dark shades and their light shades are seamlessly combined from song to song. An album that continues to build from one selection to another, the whole of the album ripples, shakes and builds upon itself to an end crescendo! “InnerWish”, the record and the group have written a commanding statement. Producing a loud voice that should be heard all over. George Georgiou orchestrates the band with his magical fingers on those many ivories and everyone of these guys continue to surprise us with what manner of music comes out of them! “InnerWish” 2016 may well be their year, it has certainly made my top five!! Around one year ago, Peavy Wagner, RAGE main-man, announced that there was not going to be any further cooperation with his two band-mates, Victor Smolski and André Hilgers. So – after 15 years and 10 CDs as guitarist, producer and composer for RAGE – guitar-virtuoso Victor Smolski now continues his musical career with this new group called ALMANAC. Following the successful experience with LINGUA MORTIS ORCHESTRA, a new musical concept combining Heavy Metal with classical music, and songs written by Smolski having in mind a sound suitable to a Metal band with orchestra plus several male and female singers. With singers like David Readman ( PINK CREAM 69 ) and Andy B. Franck ( BRAINSTORM ), besides Jeanette Marchewka ( L.M.O. ) and the Symphony Orchestra “ Orquestra Barcelona Filharmonia ”, “TSAR” is an amazing journey thru' Traditional Metal, Classical Music and some Progressive Rock, with elements of Russian folklore, plus a modern sound and a brilliant production. Think of Savatage, Avantasia and late Dream Theater (“The Astonishing”) and you'll have a picture of the incredible music that you'll find in this CD. Don't miss it. PB (90/100)
Signed to Capitol Records in 1983, Billy Satellite’s debut album is considered a jewel of the AOR genre. It did quite well back then, once released in mid 1984, hitting #139 in the Billboard chart that year, and brought the band out on the road, first with Night Ranger as opening-act on the “Midnight Madness” tour, and then with Jefferson Starship. The Rockcommunity was then ready and willing for a second album, but some problems surfaced during the recording-sessions and some internal changes at Capitol resulted in leaving the second Billy Satellite album shelved and the band dropped. After Billy Satellite split, Monty Byrom (singer, guitarist) put together New Frontier, releasing another great Melodic Rock album in 1987, but that's another story. So now, about 30 years later, here it is, finally officially released, the Billy Satellite follow-up, featuring 10 tracks and a slightly heavier direction than the first album. Unfortunately the overall sound is in places a little bit “muddy”, although the material has been carefully remastered by Chris Lyne (ex Soul Doctor, Mother Road); yet the quality of the songwriting is there. A release recommended especially to the CD collectors of '80s AOR. PB (80/100)
If you are going to create a package for fans, this is the way to do it. The German power metallers give you a CD of their arguably best tracks plus their original demo recordings of ‘Testimonium a.d.’ which gets an official label release as the original batch of demos has long since sold out. Also there’s a DVD with one open air and one arena show, footage of the band talking in German (subtitled) about their history at length , music videos and a few interviews which has a total running time of over six hours! The first CD demonstrates the breadth of the band’s work from the awesome power metal tuneage of ‘F.E.V.E.R’ and ‘The Things We Believe In’ through to the genuine folk feel on ‘The Ice Kings’ and the good use of harmonies as on ‘Requiem’. The demo recordings indicate the band had the essence of their sound early on but also show how it’s developed . The two live recording capture them in full throttle last year. This is a comprehensive document of just how good Orden Ogan are fans or those interesting in finding out. DJ (90/100)

Recorded last February 27th, 2016 in Napoli, Italy, at the party organized to celebrate the “XXth Anniversary of Frontiers Records”, this is the Special CDthattheitalianlabelpreparedtobe sold exclusively at the “Frontiers Rock Festival”. With a great band put together by vocalist/keyboards player Alessandro Del Vecchio, and with extraordinaire Pride of Lions singer Toby Hitchcock soon brought into the picture, experienced musicians such as Nik Mazzucconi on bass, Marco Di Salvia on drums and Francesco Marras on guitars completed the line-up. As per the words of the ones who were invited to the party "it was an unforgettable and unique night, and the atmosphere was awesome". Going thru some of the best moments in the Frontiers long discography (“Road To Nowhere”, "It's Criminal", “The Courage To Love Somebody”) along with some Melodic Rock classics (“Faithfully”, "Don't Stop Believing", "Can't Hold Back",“MotherFather”,“StraightTo Your Heart”) this Cd celebrates not only one of the best labels around but also and mainly the awesome timelessMusicthatlivesalwayswithallof us. FURY “S/T” (Steelheart Memories) 1983. Robbie and Brian LaBlanc, two brothers living in CT, USA, were struggling to get noticed in the music business. The chance suddenly arrived thru a phone call with Felix Cavaliere (lead singer, songwriter and Hammond player in the multi-platinum band The Young Rascals). With a demo brought to the attention of a label called “The New York Music Company”, the couple (now called “Fury”) signed and recorded the debut-album during 1984 for a release in June 1985. The album got great press and the video for the first single “Keep on Dreamin” started to get rotation on both MTV and VH1. The LaBlanc brothers continued their careers with various projects such as Blanc Faces and Find Me, Coming complete with extensive liner notes from Robbie LaBlanc himself and a lot of pics and memorabilia, and for the very first time officially released on CD, “Fury” is a timeless Rock album and it starts – in a grandiose way – this new Series called “Lost US Jewels” dedicated to the hidden treasures of the '80s and '90s Melodic Rock scene. ECLIPSE “Armageddonize Deluxe Ed. 2016” (Frontiers Music s.r.l.) The original version from 2015 is one of those records that has doggedly stayed on my mp3 since its release. Back then I said the record was chock full of hi-energy melodic rock songs and time may even suggest it’s better than it’s predecessor ‘Bleed And Scream’, which I would say now that it is. The triple assault of ‘I Don’t Want To Say I’m Sorry’, ‘Stand On Your Feet’ and ‘The Storm’ that kick off the album leave you breathless. Eclipse take the best of the classic rock sound and inject it with modern energy and urgency. An additional disc of live material, including live versions from their previous albums is added to this package. These live renditions add grit to the studio versions without losing any of the melody on those glorious Scandichoruses. Also included are a couple of previously unreleased songs that show no dip in quality plus the very catchy ‘Runaways’, the song the band entered for the Eurovision song contest to no avail. If you don’t already have the original (what’s wrong with you?), the disc of extras makes this an essential purchase. DJ (96/100)
BOB WHEELER “S/T” (Steelheart Records) Coming from Syracuse, New York, Bob Wheeler has been in the music industry from the early age of seven. He has toured both, United States and Canada, playing hundreds shows along the way. His self-titled debut-album, recorded between December 1986 and February 1987, was released during 1987 on UCA Recording, a small indie label based in Canada. The album recalls the classic early '80s AOR sound, and, in particular, bands like Aldo Nova, early Bon Jovi, Surgin and Fortune, and it's still considered as one of the best hidden treasures of the Melodic Rock scene of that era. The vinyl has now became a very hardto-find collector's item, so it's good to have finally this great album officially released on Cd, as part of the “LOST US JEWELS” Series (Limited Edition – 500 copies), with some bonus tracks, a remastered sound and a nice booklet with unseen pics, linernotes and more. Definitely worth checking it out. REB (87/100)
IMPERIUM “Dreamhunter” (Ulterium Records) Imperium is the solo project of STRIKE drummer Mika Brushane, which started to take shape back in 2012 and took some 3 years to complete, with Brushane writing all the songs and lyrics, as well as playing all drums, bass, keyboards and providing back vocals. For the lead vocals he has brought in the cream of the Finnish rock and metal scene with contributions from Pasi Rantanen, Markku Kuikka, Nisse Nordling, Samuli Federley, Toni Huovinen and Ade Manninen. The result is a great and very diverse Rock album that is worthy of the three years in the making, with its multifaceted approach there is something here for any fans of great Rock music. Right from the opener and title track ‘Dreamhunter’, we get our first taste of the vocal might of Kuikka, as The Ragged Saints lays down a power yet melodic vocal and carries on into the next track ‘Heaven Is Falling’, which has to be one of my favourite tracks off the album. This very diverse release closes with the epic instrumental ‘Finem Vocationem’, a really classy way to end a really classy album. BM (87/100)
