Human Resource Management course work provides expertise in employment law; recruitment; assessment and selection; employee performance; training and development; compensation and benefits; health safety and security; and employee and labor relations. This course of study helps you gain an understanding of human resource information systems and strategic HR management, and examines other current business issues. Woven throughout specific coursework are topics relevant to all business professionals. The program was developed by practicing human resource professionals using the framework provided by the Human Resource Certification Institute.

You will be able to apply your expertise in strategic management, workforce planning and employment to create a more efficient business. FAQ How long will it take to complete my degree?

You will develop skills in… • Understanding the issues, principles and methodologies of HR management. • Appreciating the strategic role of the human resource professional in profit and nonprofit businesses supporting the organization’s mission, vision, values and goals. • Analyzing current issues and trends in the workplace today using a wide range of resources. • Evaluating, analyzing and developing programs that fit the needs of a business or a workforce. • Creating plans and policies that provide a safe and secure working environment to protect the organization from liabilities. • Developing programs to enhance the skills of your workforce and improve your organization’s productivity and efficacy.

This varies depending upon several factors, including how much previous college credit you have. Friends University requires 124 credit hours to complete a bachelor’s degree. The Human Resource Management degree major is a 60-credit-hour program and Friends accepts up to 78 credit hours from other accredited colleges and universities. Any remaining credits needed can be completed at Friends. You can determine your own pace – your admission counselor can give you a better idea of timeframe.

Is financial aid available? Students enrolled in 12 credit hours during a 16-week period will be considered full time for financial aid purposes. To learn more about your financial aid options, call or email 316-295-5200 or financialaid@friends.edu.

What are my options for earning this degree? The Human Resource Management degree program is offered on campus, online or in a combination of both. Most students take two classes every eight weeks.

Is the degree accredited? Yes. All Friends University undergraduate and graduate degrees are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association.

Notible Faculty Dr. Kathy Slemp, professor of Human Resources and program director of the adult bachelors in Human Resource Management, graduated from Capella University with a Doctor of Philosophy In Adult Postsecondary Education. Dr. Slemp also holds the highest industry certification of Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and the newest professional certification Society of Human Resource Management’s SHRM-SCP. Dr. Slemp is a sought after speaker at regional, national and international conferences including AAACE, CAEL, and The Society of Human Resource Management.
