This degree prepares you to apply appropriate methods and standards to record and document financial information and to identify and address issues in the accounting environment. With a solid foundation of theoretical and practical course work, you will acquire knowledge in accountancy best practices and standards and gain the ability to recognize, record and analyze accounting transactions. You will gain expertise in a broad range of generally accepted accounting principles and reporting standards, including inventory, depreciation, bonds, pensions and revenue recognition. Other course work includes economic analysis and methods for appraising an organization’s performance.
With this degree, you can… This degree prepares you for a career in general accounting, tax preparation, auditing or corporate accounting in any industry. Solid, ethical accounting and financial practices are vital to the successful management of every business, government agency, public organization or privately held corporation. You will have the knowledge to develop and negotiate financial contracts, establish effective hiring practices, and apply appropriate financial principles to the manufacture and sale of consumer goods.

Notable faculty... Stacy White, CPA and Program Director for the accounting degree program, holds a B.S. in Accounting and a Master’s of Accountancy, both from Kansas State University. She is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the state of Kansas. Her practical work experience in the private sector includes corporate tax, corporate accounting and accounting for cooperatives.

This varies depending upon several factors, including how much previous college credit you have. Friends University requires 124 credit hours to complete a bachelor’s degree. The Accounting degree major is a 60-credithour program and Friends accepts up to 78 credit hours from other accredited colleges and universities. Any remaining credits needed can be completed at Friends. You can determine your own pace – your admission counselor can give you a better idea of timeframe. Students desiring to become Certified Public Accountants (CPA) must complete 150 credits and a specified set of courses. In most cases, students working toward meeting the CPA requirements will combine a 124-credit undergraduate degree with a graduate degree program, a second degree or additional hours leading to certification.

What are my options for earning this degree? The accounting degree program is offered in the evenings on the Wichita campus. Most students take two classes every eight weeks.
Is the degree accredited? Yes. All Friends University undergraduate and graduate degrees are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association.
