SCHOOL HOLIDAYS AT THE WA MUSEUM – FREMANTLE SITES

Ages 4+

WA Maritime Museum , Victoria Quay, Fremantle T 1300 134 081 I museum.wa.gov.au/whats-on/school-holidays/maritime Join us for an exciting summer school holiday program at the WA Maritime Museum as we step 100 years back in time, and celebrate Australia’s first naval victory. Our brave troops set off for war in a massive convoy of ships in November 1914. One hundred years on, we take this opportunity to explore what maritime conflict was like in the early days of the Royal Australian Navy, where communication internationally was through telegraph and wireless radio, and there was a high risk of enemy raiders threatening all ships, ports and communications stations across the Indian Ocean and beyond. Courage, Codes and Conflict Dates: Monday 19 January – Friday 23 January 2015 Tuesday 27 January – Friday 30 January 2015 Times: 10.00am – 2.00pm Cost: free, or $3 for Morse code bead bracelet making, or $2 for poppy wreath making Bookings: only required for groups of 10+ As we commemorate the 100th anniversary of Australians leaving in the Anzac Convoys for World War One battlegrounds, join us to explore the maritime communications, codes and courage of our ancestors. There will be hands-on opportunities to use old communication technologies, and you can craft your own name and wear it with our cool Morse code bead bracelets. Take up the wartime challenge of the Indian Ocean Raider Mission activity trail, or make a memorial poppy wreath in honour of the brave sailors of yesteryear. WA Museum – Shipwreck Galleries, Cliff Street, Fremantle T 1300 134 081 I museum.wa.gov.au/whats-on/school-holidays/maritime At the Shipwreck Galleries we are all about shipwrecks and maps these summer school holidays. Come and explore the challenges of shipwreck survival, finding your way through the unknown, and locating lost treasures. Cost: $2 for Shipwrecked activity trail , $3 for Treasure Island map Survivors ahoy! You have been shipwrecked on Traitor’s Island! As one of the lucky survivors your only hope is to follow the Shipwrecked activity trail clues and piece together the map to lead you to the rescue ship, which you can decorate as a pop-up colouring.
