Delamare cott Delamare sits in his room rhythmically tapping his foot and bobbing his head into a bright computer screen projecting the only light in his dark room. He plays his latest track over and over trying to get a feel for completeness. It’s a spicy new track with tropical beats mixed with futuristic EDM melodies. An excited expression washed over his face as he knew he had done it. Delamare uploads his latest remix to the popular music discovery app SoundCloud. Delamare. As soon as it is uploaded to SoundCloud, his then small group of followers started liking and sharing it. The upload was shared enough to reach over two hundred seventeen thousand views and four thousand six hundred likes! It became Delamare’s breakout single, skyrocketing his popularity to over one thousand followers and counting. The single granted him a large amount of publicity from fellow artists and online articles/blogs. One artist in particular who was very supportive of his success was Manila Killa.

The original song’s composer flew from Chicago along with his producer friend, Louis The Child, to meet with Delamare at a local hotel to talk about music and; their careers, and to encourage the fast-growing Delamare. Starting music career is tough for anybody, but nowadays we have social music technologies to make this process a little easier. SoundCloud is one of the biggest audio distribution platforms in the world. Anyone who has an account can join the online community by either uploading any

type of sound, favoriting sounds, creating a playlist, or joining a group. Having such a powerful audio sharing platform SoundCloud attracts over 175 million unique visitors monthly. With so many eyes watching the website, SoundCloud gives new music producers a perfect way to share their musical talents. Delamare first started out posting his music to this website, currently amassing one thousand followers. For this amount of followers Delamare is at a good place in his career, he was already noticed by two very successful producers, Manila Killa and Louis the Child, who each have over 53 thousand and 69 thousand follow-

ers, respectively. They also are young high school producers like Delamare. Even though they are still high school seniors, Manila Killa and Louis the Child are set to go on tour half way through the school year, making the transition from mere producers to the world of DJing. Delamare has attracted other attention outside of SoundCloud as well, appearing in several articles and blogs floating around the internet. “[A] gentleman was hit by a lightning strike, a life-threatening accident which left him with remarkably few after effects other than a sudden addiction to music” (Williamson). Scott Dela-

mare had always been musically inclined. Ever since he was little he enjoyed listening to any sort of music. Traditional music bored him so he started exploring a different, more underground type of music that was pioneering its way into the hearts of millions of Americans. He got older and started listening to a lot of electronic dance music and it’s seemingly infinite set of sub-genres, instantly falling in love with the new way to make music. Delamare remembers an artist that gave him inspiration:, “the first thing that inspired me was Daft Punk and their music back in the day, they were kind of like the pioneers of elec-

tronic music.” Daft Punk’s unique style let Delamare strive to reach inside and figure out a style of his own. The style he created has captured the ears of thousands of people on Soundcloud. Delamare starting putting music on Soundcloud on January 12, 2014 by the name of Astroscott. He put out three songs with the name Astroscott before switching over to what he felt was a more professional name of Delamare. As soon as he changed his name a whole new producer was formed. He explains,, “I’m mostly known for tropical house which is melodic and upbeat. The stuff that I’m working on is not necessarily tropical house it’s more like...future bass” (Delamare). This upbeat tropical house style was what put Delamare on the map. Everything changed when he released his remix of the Manilla Killa song “2h du Matin,” the tropical drumbeats mixed in so well with the original songs beat, it was destined to be a mas-

terpiece. The remix gave him exposure to a bigger audience which looked at his other pieces bringing the view count of at least three of his best produced songs up to fifty thousands views. So far Delamare’s music career has been a very successful ride and he hopes it stays that way.

about. Scott remembers Mr. Hyun’s encouragement: “They had a passion for music and so did I. And Mr. Hyun saw that [passion], and talked to [us] about maybe starting a dj club” (Delamare). Another way Mr. Hyun helped inspire all his students was by showing off art from different mediums mostly his graffiti works. His artwork was one of many things he enjoyed doing. Egan was Delamare’s introduction into the art of producing. Delamare explains how “Mr. Hyun scraped some funds together to get a simple turn table to explore creating music.” While he was still a student at the school Scott was one of the founders of the DJ club supervised and taught by Mr. Huynh. “Every baby is born with the building blocks of musical skills” (Williamson). Anyone can become musically inclined if they are willing to put in time and effort. Before Delamare’s Soundcloud success he was an Egan Middle -School student who found the information from a new physical education teacher named Can Huynh. different classmates explored how to produce music using turntables and a computer. Collaboration is a main key in the world of electronic dance music. Producers often remix any song they please. “On first hearing a new piece of music you and I are as lost as someone speaking a new tongue” (Williamson). In order to produce music along with someone, you both have to be speaking the same musical language. This is exactly what happened in Delamare’s remix of 2h Du Matin which got so popular it was heard by the creator Manilla Killa himself. Manilla Killa had a show in San Francisco and

invited Delamare to meet him in his hotel room before. “I go up there and I just knocked on the door nervous as heck meeting this big star for the first time...we kinda just greeted each other and ran through how there life has been going and what I have been up to” (Delamare). Afterwards the producers hit a restaurant before almost being late to performing a show.

mare wants to conquer is learning how to perform on stage. Performing on stage is completely different than only producing music, while on stage DJs need to mix sounds correctly and come up with filthy drops and build ups on the spot.

At this point in his career Delamare has put himself in a position to choose his own future. He has a large enough following to make it big and by taking the right steps he has a bright future ahead of him. One thing Dela-
