W

elcome to the 11th issue of FranTechnovation magazine, a multi-sector magazine that showcases technologies across the globe. Technology has revolutionized not only the way we function in our daily lives, but also the way in which we perceive the rest of the global community, in uncountable ways, by very effectively shrinking the globe and making cross-border exchanges easier than ever before. FranTechnovation, featuring projects and organizations that are leading these winds of change across a number of industry sectors, focuses specifically on technological developments, which, regardless of the complexity of processes involved, share the vision of a more equitable use of resources. Be it the construction sector, the artificial intelligence industry, manufacturing or green technology, we bring to you a host of carefully selected projects that we believe are likely to positively impact human lives through the manner in which these are designed and executed. The Government of India has seamlessly shifted its gears from a very broad perspective of development, to well calculated and articulated campaigns, which pursue an overall development of the country with the focus on various technologies worldwide. ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ are two accelerated campaigns that have gained a large impetus over the past year. However, with the tectonic shifts in the global focus on the Green Technology, FranTechnovation has invested its resources and time in engaging in this issue where we focus on the varied technologies across the globe that have been adopted to bring about a Green and Ecological shift in the use of technology for everyday life. With expansions in clean tech the world and hence India too is only a few years away from the pervasive introduction of electric vehicles. But it won’t be long before

there’s an invasion of long-range electric cars hitting the market. Major automakers, including General Motors and Volkswagen, have vowed to roll out more than one fully electric car by 2020. Faraday Future, covered by Frantechnovation, is a one of its kind Future Design Electric Car, with a very promising technology and cutting edge design. Faraday Future is a usercentric, advanced mobility company with headquarters in Silicon Valley and Southern California. Faraday Future has stepped into the goal to build vehicles with a sixth sense for the user’s intentions and needs. By employing state-of-the-art ergonomics, an intuitive user interface, and holistic design, they can create a connected in–car experience that’s more than highly responsive — it’s instinctive and deeply engaging for both driver and passenger. Not only have they designed an amazing energy efficient, green emission, fuel efficient and smart design car, they have also introduced an amazing new concept of Formula E. A product of the Faraday Future alliance with Dragon Racing as title sponsor and core technical partner, Faraday Future Dragon Racing is the inaugural entry into the world of Formula E- a new breed of motorsport where the drivers compete in all-electric, highvelocity digital machines. The future of India’s clean- green-energy & fuel efficient automobile design industry has a leveraging opportunity to involve in business- production- engineeringdesigning, with Faraday Future and take a leap forward in the goals for Smart Citieswith Smart Cars! All of the above and much more. We look forward to your responses and do get in touch for further assistance. Shanker Damodaran

Report of the technology’s commercialization potential in the World Markets and, if necessary, files the patent application. Your cost for this phase is less than what you would usually pay for the patent alone. A. Comprehensive Commercialization Report FranTech International Licensing's Comprehensive Commercialization Report includes: • A review of the technical feasibility of the technology • An assessment of the level of competition in the intended market • An objective estimate of the market need for the technology • A review of industry trends that affect the commercial viability of the technology B. Patent Application The U.S. patent application is immediately filed based upon the priority of an already-filed foreign application. All Patent Office actions up through and including issuance of the patent are included in this service. It would not include such things as

interference proceedings, appeals, continuing applications, multiple invention applications, etc. If you have already filed a U.S. patent application, the cost of Phase I is reduced. tailors the Business Plan to concentrate on one of the following approaches: • Potential joint venture/strategic alliance partners, • Potential licensees if licensing is the route chosen, • An investment document which serves as the basis for starting a new company. In each case, details concerning specific companies and individuals contacted and the rationale for approaching each is included. The final result is a Comprehensive Business Plan with specific recommendations from FranTech International Licensing on the who, why and how of commercializing the technology based upon the method chosen. When the Business Plan is complete, at least one member of FranTech International Licensing will personally present the plan to you, incorporating an audiovisual teleconference with FranTech International Licensing technical and marketing consultants in the target market. Phase III : Options for Technology Transfer

The proposal for full commercialization is presented with the Business Plan at the conclusion of Phase II. Experience has taught us that every technology is unique and has its own potential. FranTech International Licensing has the resources to help fully assess and realize this potential. The options available for commercializing the client's technology are licensing to an existing company, arranging a joint venture or strategic alliance with a major corporation in the field or creating a new startup company to commercialize the technology in the target market.

A. Licensing

Once the patent application is on file, your product can be licensed to existing companies. Licensing offers important opportunities for accelerated product introduction and broadened commercialization in the target market, as well as a long-term income stream from royalties.

hundreds of licenses covering a broad range of industrial technologies, resulting in the successful exploitation of patents and trademarks in the U.S. and in some forty-five countries around the world. The licensing process begins with identification and qualification of prospective licensees and continues with exchanges of information, proposals and negotiations. The conclusion of this effort is, hopefully, an income-producing license which usually provides for an up-front payment and on-going royalties based on sales. Such negotiations do not always result in agreements however, and the period of time between the licensing effort and the realization of royalty income is rarely under two years.

The founders of FranTech International Licensing have concluded

The proposal for full commercialization is presented with the Business Plan at the conclusion of Phase II... FranTech International Licensing has the resources to help fully assess and realize this potential. The options available for commercializing the client's technology are licensing to an existing company, arranging a joint venture or strategic alliance with a major corporation in the field or creating a new start-up company to commercialize the technology in the target market. FranTech International Licensing may become the Master Licensee, negotiating and monitoring the licensing agreements and collecting the royalties for you.

B. Joint Venture/Strategic Alliances Joint ventures and strategic alliances will often offer a small company the best route to commercialize the technology in the target market. These alliances are as varied in form as are the technologies themselves and must be negotiated based upon both the technical and the marketing expertise of the two partners. By way of example, you can form an alliance with a firm with proven marketing ability, providing the finished product to the other company for marketing. FranTech International Licensing, through the experience of its founders, has negotiated many such alliances and may or may not act as principal in this effort.

C. New Start-Up Company In many cases, it will be appropriate to start a new company for the production and marketing of the new technology.

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation

Although the specifics of starting a new company are complicated and detailed, FranTech International Licensing's principals are very experienced in this area, and have started many successful companies in the past. In these instances, FranTech International Licensing secures skilled management and the appropriate investors for the start-up company. FranTech International Licensing monitors management and the new company in its initial stages, thus providing the management controls and expertise that often are lacking in high technology start-up companies. FranTech International Licensing becomes a partner with you and will be shareholder in these successful new enterprises. It is important to note that both you and we receive the greatest benefit through the success of the new company.

f world is spinning on a pseudo axis, it is money- but what fuels this constant spin is technology. The money keeps churning and the world’s engine keeps running. A critical part of the everyday business life is the financial services. The banks, credit unions and capital markets support loans and credit systems so that people and organizations can purchase the necessary goods and services to operate. Though what lies at the heart of these modern financial services, is technology and not money. Imagine times of despair, where you have to wait again in a long queue to buy an airplane ticket, a time where sending money across the globe to your family is only a distant dream. Take technology out of the money and see what becomes of the entire financial system, it is going back in time. Banking software is enterprise software that is used by the banking industry. Typically banking software refers to Core Banking Software and its interfaces that allows commercial banks to connect to other modular software and to the interbank networks. Core Banking Core banking is a banking service provided by a group of networked bank branches where customers may access their bank account and perform basic transactions from any of the member branch offices. Core banking is often associated with retail banking and many banks treat the retail customers as their core banking customers. Businesses are usually managed via the Corporate banking division of the institution. Core banking covers basic depositing and lending of money.

Mobile Banking Mobile banking is a service provided by a bank or other financial institution that allows its customers to conduct a range of financial transactions remotely using a mobile device such as a mobile phone or tablet, and using software, usually called an app, provided by the financial institution for the purpose. Mobile banking is usually available on a 24-hour basis. Some financial institutions have restrictions on which accounts may be accessed through mobile banking, as well as a limit on the amount that can be transacted.

Banks can use data to deliver to customers high value customer insights, at the time and place they need it and over their preferred channel. It is now up to banks to realise the promise of experience-driven banking. The prize being to win back customer loyalty. Temenos: Products and Financial Services Analytics

Unlock the power of your data to become analytically driven and drive profitability and efficiency improvements, throughout your entire organization. For banks to succeed in this new digital era, they must exploit the data to enable them to drive customercentricity, product innovation, competitor differentiation, profitable growth and crucial strategic decision making about the future of their organisation. However, data is simply data with little value unless it can be exposed, accessed, analyzed and transformed into business intelligence. This presents major challenges for banks which typically have multiple product centric systems and no strategy for data exploitation. However, for the smarter banks that get it right, the opportunities are limitless. 26

he world is increasingly computerised and everything that goes global goes digital. Hence the incumbent rise in the network outages, data compromised by hackers, computer viruses and other incidents which inadvertently affect our lives in ways that range from inconvenient to life-threatening. As the number of mobile users, digital applications and data networks increase, so do the opportunities for exploitation. Hence the impending dire need for Cyber Security, which is now a thriving branch of the Information and Technology sector.

What Is Cyber Security?

Computer security, also known as cybersecurity or IT security, is the protection of information systems from theft or damage to the hardware, the software, and to the information on them, as well as from disruption or misdirection of the services they provide. The focus is on protecting computers, networks, programs and data from unintended or unauthorized access, change or destruction. The field is of growing importance due to the increasing reliance on computer systems and the Internet in most societies, wireless networks such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi - and the growth of “smart” devices, including smartphones, televisions and tiny devices as part of the Internet of Things.

Why Is Cyber Security Important? The huge avenue of the collection of data that the governments, military, corporations, financial institutions, hospitals and other businesses collect, process and store is highly confidential information on computers and is transmitted across networks to other computers. With the growing volume and sophistication of cyber-

attacks, ongoing attention is required to protect sensitive business and personal information, as well as safeguard national security. Vulnerabilities & Attacks in Cyber Security A vulnerability is a system susceptibility or flaw. Many vulnerabilities are documented in the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) database. An exploitable vulnerability is one for which at least one working attack or “exploit” exists. To secure a computer system, it is important to understand the attacks that can be made against it, and these threats can typically be classified into one of the few categories below: • Backdoors • Denial-of-service attack • Direct-access attack • Spoofing • Phishing • Clickjacking • Social Engineering

Fidelis Cyber SecurityDetect Dig Destroy

Quantum Mechanics and the Rise of Quantum Computing 36

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation

Q

uantum mechanics, including quantum field theory, is a fundamental branch of physics concerned with processes involving, for example, atoms and photons. Systems such as these which obey quantum mechanics can be in a quantum superposition of different states, unlike in classical physics.

A more conceivable goal is the development of quantum computers, which are expected to perform certain computational tasks exponentially faster than classical computers. Quantum computing studies theoretical computation systems (quantum computers) that make direct use of quantum-mechanical phenomena, such as superposition and entanglement, to perform operations on data. Quantum computers are different from binary digital electronic computers based on transistors. Whereas common digital computing requires that the data are encoded into binary digits (bits), each of which is always in one of two definite states (0 or 1), quantum computation uses quantum bits, which can be in superpositions of states.

Quantum computers share theoretical similarities with non-deterministic and probabilistic computers.A quantum computer with spins as quantum bits was also formulated for use as a quantum space–time in 1968.

A Unique Processor Environment • Shielded to 50,000× less than Earth’s magnetic field • In a high vacuum: pressure is 10 billion times lower than atmospheric pressure • 192 i/o and control lines from room temperature to the chip • “The Fridge” and servers consume just 25kW of power • Power demand won’t increase as it scales to thousands of qubits Processing with D-Wave • A lattice of 1000 tiny superconducting circuits, known as qubits, is chilled close to absolute zero to get quantum effects • A user models a problem into a search for the “lowest point in a vast landscape” • The processor considers all possibilities simultaneously to determine the lowest energy required to form those relationships • Multiple solutions are returned to the user, scaled to show optimal answers

Quantum Computing: How D-Wave Systems Work

A quantum computer taps directly into the fundamental fabric of reality – the strange and counterintuitive world of quantum mechanics – to

The D-Wave 2X™ System: The most advanced quantum computer in the world The Quantum Computer • Exploits quantum mechanical effects • Built around “qubits” rather than “bits” • Operates in an extreme environment • Enables quantum algorithms to solve very hard problems Power and Cooling • “The Fridge” is a closed cycle dilution refrigerator • The superconducting processor generates no heat • Cooled to 180x colder than interstellar space (0.015 Kelvin)

computer returns many very good answers in a short amount of time 10,000 answers in one second. This gives the user not only the optimal solution or a single answer, but also other alternatives to choose from. D-Wave systems use “quantum annealing” to solve problems. Quantum annealing “tunes” qubits from their superposition state to a classical state to return the set of answers scored to show the best solution.

speed computation.Rather than store information as 0s or 1s as conventional computers do, a quantum computer uses qubits – which can be a 1 or a 0 or both at the same time. This “quantum superposition”, along with the quantum effects of entanglement and quantum tunnelling, enable quantum computers to consider and manipulate all combinations of bits simultaneously, making quantum computation powerful and fast. How D-Wave System Work Quantum computing uses an entirely different approach than classical computing. A useful analogy is to think of a landscape with mountains and valleys. Solving optimization problems can be thought of as trying to find the lowest point on this landscape. Every possible solution is mapped to coordinates on the landscape, and the altitude of the landscape is the “energy’” or “cost” of the solution at that point. The aim is to find the lowest point on the map and read the coordinates, as this gives the lowest energy, or optimal solution to the problem. Classical computers running classical algorithms can only “walk over this landscape”. Quantum computers can tunnel through the landscape making it faster to find the lowest point. The D-Wave processor considers all the possibilities simultaneously to determine the lowest energy required to form those relationships. The 38

Programming D-Wave To program the system a user maps their problem into this search for the lowest point. A user interfaces with the quantum computer by connecting to it over a network, as you would with a traditional computer. The user’s problems are sent to a server interface, which turns the optimization program into machine code to be programmed onto the chip. The system then executes a “quantum machine instruction” and the results are returned to the user. D-Wave systems are designed to be used in conjunction with classical computers, as a “quantum co-processor”.

Software & Software Architecture for the Quantum Computing D-Wave

Just as the classical computer world needed a software ecosystem to spur usage and development, quantum computers do as well. At D-Wave we are starting to develop the layers of “system software” that will make it easy for customers and collaborators to use the system and exploit its strengths. The D-Wave 2X System has a web API with client libraries available for C, C++, Python and MATLAB. This interface allows the machine to be easily accessed as a cloud resource over a network. Using development tools and client libraries, users can write code in the language of their choice.

The different types of Optimizations used by D-Wave are : • Water Network Optimization • Radiotherapy Optimization • Protein Folding

Programming a quantum computer is different than programming a traditional computer. To program the system, the user maps a problem into a search for the “lowest point in a vast landscape,” which corresponds to the best possible outcome. The processor considers all the possibilities simultaneously to determine the lowest energy required to form those relationships. Because a quantum computer is probabilistic rather than deterministic, the computer returns many very good answers in a short amount of time 10,000 answers in one second. This gives the user not only the optimal solution or a single answer, but also other alternatives to choose from.

Applications of the Modern Day Quantum Computing: Helping solve some of the most difficult challenges Optimization Optimization problems are some of the most complex problems to solve. Optimization problems exist in many different domains - systems design, mission planning, airline scheduling, financial analysis, web search, cancer radiotherapy and many more. They are some of the most complex problems in the world, with potentially enormous benefits to businesses, people and science if optimal solutions can be readily computed.

Machine Learning Machines learn to recognize objects by detecting recurring patterns.Machine learning is the most successful approach to solving this problem, by which programmers write algorithms that automatically learn to recognize the ‘essences’ of objects by detecting recurring patterns in huge amounts of data. Because of the amount of data involved in this process, and the immense number of potential combinations of data elements, this is a very computationally expensive optimization problem. As with other optimization problems, these can be mapped to the native ability of the D-Wave processor. The different types of Machine Learning used by D-Wave are: • Object Detection • Labelling new Stories • Video Compression Monte Carlo Simulation The better the model, the better you are at predicting the future. In order to check to see if a computer’s statistical model represents reality we need to be able to draw samples from it, and check that the statistics of our model match the statistics of real world data. Monte Carlo simulation, which relies on repeated random sampling to approximate the probability of certain outcomes, is an approach used in many industries such as finance, energy, and manufacturing, engineering oil & gas and the environment. For a complex model, with many different variables, this is a difficult task to do quickly.

The Future of EcommerceElectronic Billing made Global and Easy 42

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation

T

he world is a sailing boat of digitalisation in business. The new millennia of sales is the click, buy, shop and drop at doorsteps. The Pandora box opened on the screen of a computer, where everything and anything has been put up for sale and can be shipped and delivered across borders. Ecommerce is the new buzz word for everything that can be sold, bought, borrowed! Ecommerce is largely about execution. In the technical terms, electronic commerce, commonly written as E-Commerce or eCommerce, is the trading or facilitation of trading in products or services using computer networks, such as the Internet or online social networks. Electronic commerce draws on technologies such as mobile commerce, electronic funds transfer, supply chain management, Internet marketing, online transaction processing, electronic data interchange (EDI), inventory management systems, and automated data collection systems.

Electronic Billing- The major step for making sales!

The future of ecommerce is not predictable, yet some things remain constant – delivery times will improve, customer service will get increasingly better, and product selection will become ever greater. A major component of this industry is a seamless and less complicated method of online billing. In ideal terms, Electronic billing or electronic bill payment and presentment, is when a company, organization, or group sends its bills over the internet, and customers pay the bills electronically. There are different types of electronic billing which are used across various online sales and finance platforms. Biller Direct This refers to an approach in which consumers make payments directly to one biller that issues bills that they receive at the website of the firm that issued the bill. An example would be of a public utility company offering this payment service to its consumers. A market has emerged for outsourced billing providers who

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 43

specialize in electronic billing processes and technology for companies that need to send bills directly to their customers. Bank Aggregator The approach under this model is to make payment at an aggregator or consolidator site, usually from a consumer’s bank’s website. This model allows the consumer to make payments to multiple billers that are pre-registered to receive payments. An example in the UK is OneVu.

Parties involved • Biller payment provider (BPP) An agent of the biller that accepts remittance information on behalf of the Biller. • Biller service provider (BSP) - An agent of the biller that provides the service for the Biller. • Consolidator - A biller service provider that consolidates bills from multiple Billers or other bill service providers (BSPs) and delivers them for presentment to the customer service provider (CSP). • Customer service provider (CSP) – An agent of the customer that provides an interface directly to customers, businesses or others for bill presentment. CSP enrolls customers, enables presentment and provides customer care, among other functions.

here is no doubt that the oil/ energy industry is extremely large. According to the Department of Energy (DOE), fossil fuels (including coal, oil and natural gas) makes up more than 85% of the energy consumed in the U.S. as of 2008. Oil supplies 40% of U.S. energy needs. The petroleum industry includes the global processes of exploration, extraction, refining, transporting (often by oil tankers and pipelines), and marketing petroleum products. The largest volume products of the industry are fuel oil and gasoline (petrol).

organizations with strong centralized functions. This model allowed them to tackle terrific technical challenges, manage great political and operational risks, and deploy scarce talent across the world as needed.

AlMansoori Specialised Engineering Petroleum Services

AlMansoori Specialized Engineering is the leading provider of oilfield services in the Middle East. Founded in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in 1977, the company has grown to employ a skilled workforce of nearly 3,000 across 24 countries throughout the region.

Petroleum (oil) is also the raw material for many chemical products, including pharmaceuticals, solvents, fertilizers, pesticides, and plastics. The industry is usually divided into three major components: upstream, midstream and downstream. Midstream operations are usually included in the downstream category.

The business divisions, AlMansoori Petroleum Services (AMPS) and AlMansoori Petroleum Industries (AMPI) segregate their serviceability into Services Unit and Manufacturing/ Fabrication units respectively, and deliver seamless project management for the clients across the multiple services.

Before petroleum can be used, it is sent to a refinery where it is physically, thermally and chemically separated into fractions and then converted into finished products. About 90% of these products are fuels such as gasoline, aviation fuels, distillate and residual oil, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), coke (not the refreshment) and kerosene. Refineries also produce non-fuel products, including petrochemicals, asphalt, road oil, lubricants, solvents and wax. Petrochemicals (ethylene, propylene, benzene and others) are shipped to chemical plants, where they are used to manufacture chemicals and plastics.

AlMansoori’s capabilities cover a spectrum of activities for the upstream Oil and Gas industry including Production Testing and Early Production Facilities; Drill Stem Testing; Coiled Tubing; Slickline and Completions; Logging and Tubing Conveyed Perforation; Workover Drilling; Tubular and Rig Inspection; Directional Drilling; Safety Training; Manpower Supply; Oilfield Manufacturing and Strategic Joint Ventures.

Today’s oil and gas organizations were developed in a time of resource scarcity. To get at those hard-tofind, difficult-to-develop resources, companies built large, complex

Tubing Conveyed Perforating A technique has been developed to overcome the formation damage of drilling, cementing, and perforating. Using this technique, you often get natural well completions in zones that heretofore require extensive stimulation to overcome the damage. Basically, the technique is perforating with deep penetrating shaped charges and immediately back surging with maximum differential pressure to the well-bore. This often is done with the tubing practically dry, thereby fully utilizing the natural formation pressure to give clean, efficient flow channels after perforating. Results to date indicate you get cleaner, producing perforations than with any other system. The paper discusses the mechanical equipment that has been designed and field proved for running the guns on tubing below retrievable packers. Various hook-ups are shown for single, dual, or commingled completions.

AlMansoori Petroleum Industries

AlMansoori Petroleum Industries (AMPI) is a subsidiary of AlMansoori Specialized Engineering (MSE). AMPI was established in October 2008 and has established Manufacturing Companies in Abu Dhabi within the Oil & Gas sector such as, Wireline, Well Testing, Process Equipment and Specialty Chemicals. The Company is also in Joint Venture with internationally reputable companies, having local facilities in Abu Dhabi, providing Repair, Maintenance, Inspection and Certification Services.

The Company’s objective is to diversify its range of Manufacturing Products and to establish more Joint Venture arrangements with internationally reputable companies. AMPI is involved in establishing manufacturing facilities of Oil & Gas related products, on the basis of joint ventures with internationally reputable companies or through licensing arrangements or acquisitions of manufacturing companies. Emirates National Chemicals Emirates National Chemicals Co LLC. (EMOCHEM) is a joint venture set up in 1987 by AlMansoori Specialized Services and NALCO Energy Services. EMOCHEM is an oilfield petrochemical manufacturer, distributing a vast range of products all over the UAE and Middle East. The selection of products (with the exception of Demulsifier) is usually conducted in their laboratory in Abu Dhabi, which is staffed by four full time chemists who can conduct corrosion screening using the latest electrochemical techniques, (including ER, LPR, AC impedance and electrochemical noise), kill tests, PMAC scale and compatibility testing, pour point, wax, Asphaltene dispersant and inhibition tests. T

he development of technology has awakened the concepts of futuristic engineering. So has the new idea of airport cities also called ‘Aerotropolis’. As air transport for leisure trips, business travel and goods shipment increased rapidly over the past several decades, the emergence of airport cities has been hypothesised.Busy commercial airports may be emerging as central transport nodes in large metropolitan areas, much as ports and rail terminals were in the past, anchoring employment servicing passengers, facilitating frequent travellers and providing a spatial focus for unrelated firms. An analysis of small-area employment data for the areas surrounding 25 major US airports and the related central cities reveals the concentration of employment within 2.5 miles of these airports to be substantial— approximately half that within 2.5 miles of the central point of the corresponding CBDs—and growing. The analysis refocuses a question about the nature of spatial differentiation within metropolitan regions supporting multiple employment nodes.

Airport City Evolution

Airport city and aerotropolis development is gaining substantial traction, multiplying rapidly on a global scale.

Airport cities have developed along different paths. A portion of them were planned from the start. Most, however, evolved in a largely organic manner responding to : • Airport land availability • Improved surface transportation access • Growing air traveller consumer demands • Airport revenue needs • New business practices • Sitespecific commercial real estate opportunities

Regardless of process, airports continue to transform from primarily air transport infrastructure to multimodal, multifunctional enterprises generating considerable commercial development within and well beyond their boundaries. Today, virtually all of the commercial functions of a modern metropolitan centre are found on or near most major air gateways, fundamentally changing them from ‘city airports’ to ‘airport cities’.

The rise of the Aerotropolis

Airports have become not just 21st century business magnets, but also regional economic accelerators, catalysing and driving business development outward for many miles. As aviation-oriented businesses increasingly locate at major airports and along transportation corridors radiating from them, an aerotropolis emerges stretching up to 25km (nearly 20 miles) from some major airports. Analogous in shape to the traditional metropolis made up of a central city core and its rings of commuter-heavy suburbs, the aerotropolis consists of an airport-centred commercial core (airport city) and outlying corridors and clusters of aviation-linked businesses and associated residential development. September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 55

The aerotropolis, in fact, is the concrete urban manifestation of the global meeting the local, with the airport serving as its physical interface.

flight training for airlines including Deutsche Lufthansa and Air Berlin, which manifests and reinforces its competence in training as well as business aircraft maintenance.

We have entered a new transitoriented development era where cities are being built around airports instead of the reverse.

Advanced expressway network, efficient railway system, increasing air routes, together with sea ports nearby, make Parchim International Airport a rising versatile logistics hub in north Germany.

In the process, the urban centre is being relocated in the form of globally significant airport cities and aerotropolises. Propitious opportunities await metropolitan regions (including their traditional central cities) that can marshal the vision, planning skills, and co-ordinated actions to capitalise on them.

Parchim International Airport City & Business Park

Parchim International Airport (PIA) was built back to the year 1934. Since 2007, the China based LinkGlobal Group made itself the new owner of the airport and the airport management company through an international privatization and bidding process initiated by local government. At present, Parchim International Airport becomes the most potential international airport for cargo and passengers. All types of commercial flights including A380 and AN124 can be served in this airport. Providing the airlines and its clients a tailored service is the target of the airport today. After arrival in Parchim International Airport, cargos can either be stored in its bonded warehouses, or transshipped directly to the rest of Europe. T

he most uprising terms in the dialect of the global expansion and development is ‘Smart Cities’.A ‘smart city’ is an urban region that is highly advanced in terms of overall infrastructure, sustainable real estate, communications and market viability. It is a city where information technology is the principal infrastructure and the basis for providing essential services to residents. There are many technological platforms involved, including but not limited to automated sensor networks and data centres. In a smart city, economic development and activity is sustainable and rationally incremental by virtue of being based on success-oriented market drivers such as supply and demand. They benefit everybody, including citizens, businesses, the government and the environment. The concept of smart cities originated at the time when the entire world was facing one of the worst economic crises. In 2008, IBM began work on a ‘smarter cities’ concept as part of its Smarter Planet initiative. By the beginning of 2009, the concept had

captivated the imagination of various nations across the globe. Countries like South Korea, UAE and China began to invest heavily into their research and formation. Today, a number of excellent precedents exist that India can emulate, such as those in Vienna, Aarhus, Amsterdam, Cairo, Lyon, Málaga, Malta, the Songdo International Business District near Seoul, Verona etc.

The Smart solutions of a Smart City

In the approach of the Smart Cities Mission, the objective is to promote cities that provide core infrastructure and give a decent quality of life to its citizens, a clean and sustainable environment and application of ‘Smart’ Solutions.

CAEDZ is building its membership and partner base to work on current and future projects. CAEDZ is currently developing strategies with other governments around the world to implement similar mega eco sustainable development project contracts.

CAEDZ Projects: Current and In-Development Projects Current Projects Following the commissioning of CAEDZ in August 4, 2006 to develop an economic plan based on implementing President Yudhoyono’s Vision for Change led to the development of Project Indonesia Initiative. An extensive research and study on the physical, social, and policy obstacles to implement master economic blueprint based on the Vision for Change to create equitable, prosperous and sustainable future, Indonesia must end practices that harm the ecosystem and produce minimal return for the nation by establishing a new economy based on clean and renewable resources and healthy environments. Project Indonesia Initiative Project Indonesia Initiative is a broad and comprehensive economic re-engineering development program that considers Indonesia’s economy, environment, people, policies, and infrastructure. The bedrock for the economic success of the Initiative is to deploy large-scale regional master planning and integrated solutions to the many facets and layers altered by human-induced global warming. Jakarta Waste to Energy & City Beautification The Jakarta project is of much significance politically as well as socially and environmentally. Jakarta is in a crisis situation: there is too much trash, not enough electricity, people are generally poor, and the city is congested and extremely polluted.

CAEDZ is in charge of bringing massive beneficial change to Jakarta: rubbish landfills will be converted into a usable gas which will be turned into electricity and hydrogen fuel; all public transportation and taxis will be converted to hydrogen fuel, creating a hydrogen fuel economy; high-quality low-cost ecologically friendly housing, to be designed considering the needs of local communities, will be built for people currently living in makeshift housing; and new parks, public spaces, and commercial infrastructures will be created. The Jakarta project is expected to create 3-5 Million jobs in Jakarta alone. Malaysia International Eco Health City The International Eco Health City, being built by CAEDZ on a 10,000-acre site, the economic re-engineering development that launched the development of the new city Nusajaya, in the State of Johore in Malaysia, adjacent to Singapore, is in direct response to Malaysia’s progressive integration into the rapidly developing world economy and its environmental concerns. This city will be the hub of medical services in the region. It will include several large hospital complexes, a medical university, medical research facilities, a biotech industrial park, four health resorts, and almost 10,000 homes. CAEDZ has the exclusive contract to design and build this city, and is seeking additional member and partner companies to join CAEDZ, as the opportunities for involvement in this project are great.

In Development Projects Blue Coral Maglev High Speed Train Consortium Blue Coral Magnetic Levitated High Speed Train (Bullet Train) System will earmark the first inter-continental bullet train system construction project in the Americas. Green Houses Sustainable Housing 72

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation

O

ne of the biggest boon and curse of the great industrial revolutions is the evolution in housing. History states that with the industrial revolution, architecture experienced a huge shift in terms of the housing industry, where houses were built keeping in mind the growing population as well the costing for building these houses. These times have seen a shift from the houses being built secluded and individual on the land to buildings and apartments being built like boxes one on top of another.

This ennui of the shift, along with the tremendous progress in science has now opened a new filed of architecture, bringing an excellent culmination of technology and housing- largely referred to as sustainable housing. The percentage of homes being built in the U.S. with environmentally friendly features increased to 16% of singlefamily starts in 2010 from 2% in 2006, says McGraw-Hill Construction, a marketresearch firm in New York. “Fueling the trend, industry officials say, is a desire to save on utility bills. Indeed, in a recent survey, 93% of builders named increased energy and water efficiency as an important green practice—far more than cited any other benefit.” Green homes usually vary in a cost from 2% to 10% more compared to a conventional code built home, depending on the features included, although with time and cheaper efficient technology coming the market the cost difference is definitely shrinking. The key to keeping the cost differential to a minimum is planning – if you plan for the green features rather than incorporating as

you build, the actual cost differential can be negligible. Additionally, most buyers of green homes are finding the reduction in water and energy bills from green features such as Energy Star heating equipment/appliances, improved insulation, water efficient plumbing fixtures and draught tolerant landscaping renders roughly a 3-8 year payback on the green upgrades. One thing that has historically hampered sales of sustainably built homes is the lack of understanding of their virtues and the marketing of those virtues by the real estate community, the real estate appraisal community and mortgage lenders.

assembled in just a few hours by three untrained people. The pieces can fit in the back of a pickup truck, single helicopter sling, or a bush cargo plane and can be set up on almost any terrain. These shelters are not only ideal for research needs, quarantine shelters, and emergency relief situations but will satisfy the needs of Homeland Security, the Military, Labour Housing, Homeless Communities and many more.

About Intershelter: The best solution for sustainable housing!

The Intershelter buildings perform as well in the deserts of Afghanistan as they do at a brand new eco-toursim resort at the South Pole or the mountain tops of Alaska. They are the next generation of military shelter, disaster relief housing, decontamination/ quarantine facilities, first responder HQs and MASH style triage pods, homeless communities, migrant worker housing, remote mountain top telecom shacks and international refugee housing. InterShelter has, for the first time, since The Romans, bridged the gap between tents and stick built houses/trailers. They are totally immune from any extreme weather conditions from -70 below zero to +120 above and can withstand Category 5 hurricane winds. They are the

74

most energy efficient portable building on earth. They can be dis-assembled in a matter of minutes for re-deployment or storage for use over and over again. Our SolarDomes are totally sustainable, off the grid, and green with a near “Net Zero Carbon Footprint”, when powered by the sun/wind. InterShelter was recently named “Best Startup Company in America” by FOX News, Business Week Magazine and Yahoo Finance.

The Different Domes of Intershelter

Intershelter offers a variety of domes that serve the different purposes for a sustainable housing. The four major types of domes that Intershelter offers are: Recreational domes (Hunting Camps) Portable Domes offer several advantages to the hunter (‘s). It permits extended hunting trips with more time devoted to hunting and learning the area and carries very few scents that could detour game in the area. It allows the hunter to stay in or close to game country, where they can spend less time setting up a hunting camp and more time actually hunting in those sites. The Dome allows persons who enjoy the camping/hunting experience to expand the enjoyment of their hunting

experience and to share it with a few likeminded people (our domes can sleep up to 6 men comfortably). It allows the hunter to “get away from it all” and recreate his or her spirit in the atmosphere of enjoyment. Military Domes (Military Applications) As they risk their lives protecting us, let us continue to do our job of protecting them. Intershelter™ can provide our troops with bullet resistant shelters that can be assembled in less than a few hours by just two men. Bullet Resistant Domes- As an option, add composite armor to your Intershelter™ Dome. Composite laminate used for the Ballistic Dome Shelter (BDS) is configured in a multi-ply configuration that provides best properties when ballistically attacked. The bullets are embedded within the composite armor panels rather than

ricocheted (like steel or aluminumarmor would). The bullet-resistant composite armor is a fraction of the weight of steel armor for identical performance levels. Tests show that ballistic levels exceed level IIIA. Disaster Relief (Natural Disasters) In the wake of the Tsunami, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and the recent earthquake in Asia, millions of people have been left homeless. Built to sustain hurricane strength winds and large enough to house an entire family, the Intershelter™ Dome can provide warmth and security to those left out battling the elements. In just a few hours, these portable structures are erected and ready for use. Because of their aerodynamic design, with a little preparation these shelters are capable of withstanding any future hurricane or typhoon and can serve as emergency shelters or command centers during and after a storm or other disaster.

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 75

Temporary Shelters (Community Shelter Programs) The combination of portability and quick assembly with the ability to create a commune of connecting shelters, makes InterShelter™ Domes ideal shelters for many situations. It is an endless cycle for many homeless. With no house or bath, they cannot get a job and with no job they cannot get a house. Finding affordable housing in the U.S. and many other countries has become more and more difficult. InterShelter™ offers an easy and affordable solution. Not only can one InterShelter™Dome house a five person family, it can also be assembled on almost any type of ground.

T

he history of technology has shown multiple facets which have continued to evolve in a productive and efficient manner. From the initial and robust conventional methods to the non-conventional and strictly efficient manner, technology has now transcended into nanotechnology- with less weighing, smaller in size and more efficient hardware and technology available as a contemporary to the original technology. One of this newly evolved technology is the cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) is one of several trenchless rehabilitation methods used to repair existing pipelines. CIPP is a joint less, seamless, pipe-within-apipe with the capability to rehabilitate pipes ranging in diameter from 0.1–2.8 meter (4”–110”). As one of the most widely used rehabilitation methods CIPP has application in water, sewer, gas, and chemical pipelines. Cured in Place Pipe Lining Made in the USA by LightStream, LP is America’s premier UV cured in place pipe (CIPP) fiberglass liner system - StreamLiner UV™.Fiberglass (or fibreglass) is a type of fiber-reinforced plastic where the reinforcement fiber is specifically glass fiber. The glass fiber may be randomly arranged, flattened into a sheet (called a chopped strand mat), or woven into a fabric. The plastic matrix may be a thermosetting plastic – most often epoxy, polyester resin – or vinylester, or a thermoplastic. LightStream, LP brings to you Streamliner UV, a premier UV cured in place pipe. Made in the United States, StreamLiner UV™ was developed to bring the industry a cured in place pipe product that is strong, durable, cost competitive and environmentally friendly. Their CIPP liner, made from the highest quality materials, has become the leader in the U.S. marketplace for long-term solutions to aging industrial water and sewer pipelines. CIPP StreamLiner UV™ Installation

LightStream, LP’s fiberglass cured in place pipe lining system takes one third the set up time of felt CIPP and breaks down in minutes, not hours. The pipe lining and curing process begins with the pipeline bypassed and the upstream manhole plugged. The pipe is then cleaned and a robotic camera is run through the pipe taking video footage of the entire length noting any issues that may need to be addressed before the lining is installed. A rope is pulled into the pipe during the video process with the camera itself. After the pipe is prepped and videoed, a pre-liner and a second rope are pulled through.

LightStream offers a superior fiberglass cured in place pipe lining, a compact, computerized UV curing system, training and support. Their CIPP liners and parts for our StreamLiner UV™ Light Train cured in place pipe system are all readily available; no long down times waiting for shipments from Europe.

The StreamLiner UV™ Light Train is then inserted through one end and pressure is restored. The Light Train camera is activated and the train is manually pulled through the liner in order to visually inspect it for any potential problems.

Streamliner UV possesses some of the finest and effective properties that makes it durable and widely accepted:

After the liner inspection is complete, the Light Train is once again pulled through the liner, this time via computer. The computer controls the speed, temperature and pressure of the process which are all carefully monitored via laptop computer during the curing of the pipe liner.

When the CIPP process is complete, the ends of the liner are trimmed, a cutter is inserted and precision cuts are made at each lateral to restore service to the main. The StreamLiner UV™ Light Train system cures at speeds in the 4 to 8 foot per minute range. A length of 300 feet of 8 inch UV CIPP liner can be cured in 50 minutes.

The cable on the winch at the downstream manhole is then attached to the rope and pulled back through the pipe. The StreamLiner UV™ is then attached to the winch cable and pulled through the pipe with the winch. Safety sleeves are placed on the liner at both ends to insure the end caps are secure. The end “gates” are then placed on each side of the liner in order to inflate it to 8psi.

A

world of data and the growing rage of analysis of the dataBig Data and Analytics has become an integral part of every major firm decision making, decisions that are ground breaking and game changing, rules that are twisted and turned completely off the charts and new techniques achieved in terms of business input and output. One of the key sectors that is affected with this new methodology and technology is the Financial Services. Financial services are the economic services provided by the finance industry, which encompasses a broad range of businesses that manage money, including credit unions, banks, credit-card companies, insurance companies, accountancy companies, consumer-finance companies, stock brokerages, investment funds and some government-sponsored enterprises. A little digging into the history of this sector, the term “financial services became more prevalent in the United States partly as a result of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of the late 1990s, which enabled different types of companies operating in the U.S. financial services industry at that time to merge. With this new inclusion of finance becoming a necessary part of the economic and financial future of companies, financial software are introduced coagulating technology and finance into one software, offering varied features that seamlessly expedite the process of financial inclusion. Financial software or financial system software is special application software that records all the financial activity within a business organization. Basic features of this system not only includes all the modules of accounting software like accounts

payable, accounts receivable, ledger, reporting modules and payroll but also to explore alternative investment choices and calculate statistical relationships. Features of the system may vary depending on what type of business it is being used for. Primarily, the goal of the financial software is to record, categorize, analyse, compile, interpret and then present an accurate and updated financial dates for every transaction of the business.

The Key Features of the Financial Inclusion Software Pipeline tracking Pipeline tracking is one of the key features of an accounting system and software for asset management. This provides summarized information on all the details pertaining to the potential investments that are being monitored. The system and software will organize the pipeline and record the source, execution status, approval status, feasible investment capital and the targeted purchase price. Asset management Asset management is another important feature of a financial software. It uses the updated status of the investment to provide the necessary tools in creating every possible outcome, such as future payments that are distressed, conversions for debt to equity and maturity of loans. It also provides an efficient tracking of payment dates and rates. Fund management The next feature is fund management, which provides an accurate projection of all the investments as well as factors of the borrowing and operating cost of the fund in order to create a view of the cash levels in the future and investment returns. This system aids in the evaluation and structuring of any fund.

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 97

Data warehousing Another feature of the financial software, is the data warehousing. This feature syncs the accounting system and retrieves investment transactions. It also uses a customizable category or name. This key feature allows an effortless re-categorization of the investments. The calculation of investment statistics will depend on the computation of the user at any given moment. Customized reports on the performance of the investment can be created using any of the calculations programmed in the database of the system. The market for data software and services providers is moving closer to a breaking point where banks will need to adopt, on larger scales and with greater confidence, solutions to manage internal operations and client-facing activities. This is not unlike the path we have seen cloud technologies take. 98

n the fall of 2008, there was a worldwide financial crisis whose effects continue to ripple through the banking sector and economies around the world. The most significant resulting impact on many companies, even eight years later, has been the lack of easy and available credit. Though this had started with the worse effects in the US, it has travelled across the globe affecting the different currencies where the incumbent with more and more companies and economies having rumbled under the effect of this crisis. The International Trade had severely plummeted due to this crisis only to see an uphill climb during the recent years. Trading globally today gives consumers and countries the opportunity to be exposed to new markets and products. Almost every kind of product can be found on the international market: food, clothes, spare parts, oil, jewellery, wine, stocks, currencies and water. Services are also traded: tourism, banking, consulting and transportation. A product that is sold to the global market is an export, and a product that is bought from the global market is an import. Imports and exports are accounted for in a country’s current account in the balance of payments.

Industrialization, advanced technology, including transportation, globalization, multinational corporations, and outsourcing are all having a major impact on the international trade system. Increasing international trade is crucial to the continuance of globalization. Without international trade, nations would be limited to the goods and services produced within their own borders. International trade is, in principle, not different from domestic trade as the motivation and the

behaviour of parties involved in a trade do not change fundamentally regardless of whether trade is across a border or not.

T

he Financial inclusion and financial literacy have been important policy goals for the Finance Ministry of India quite some time. Over the past quarter century the microfinance movement has propelled a global expansion of formal and semiformal financial services for the world’s poor. Experts agree that the demands for the inclusion of formal finance is huge worldwide wiith an estimate ranging from half a billion people to 3 billion people being unbanked. Financial inclusion or inclusive financing is the delivery of financial services at affordable costs to sections of disadvantaged and low-income segments of society, in contrast to financial exclusion where those services are not available or affordable. The term “financial inclusion” has gained importance since the early 2000s, a result of findings about financial exclusion and its direct correlation to poverty. The United Nations defines the goals of financial inclusion as follows 108

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation

• Access at a reasonable cost for all households to a full range of financial services, including savings or deposit services, payment and transfer services, credit and insurance; • Sound and safe institutions governed by clear regulation and industry performance standards; • Financial and institutional sustainability, to ensure continuity and certainty of investment; and • Competition to ensure choice and affordability for clients.

The Challenges of Financial Inclusion While financial inclusion appears as a noble goal in itself, recent history shows that efforts to drive financial inclusion can be counterproductive unless handled well.

The subprime mortgage crisis in the US that wreaked havoc on the global financial system had its origins in the forced drive for inclusion. It led government-backed agencies to lend to customers with limited ability to repay.

India’s microfinance crisis is another such example. The fact that microfinance institutions (MFIs) operated in under-served areas led to regulatory forbearance in the initial years, leading to excessive lending before the eventual bust. Limited information on the size and nature of the global population using the financial services limits the policymakers’ abilities to identify what’s working and what’s not in terms of increasing financial access. It also limits the financial service providers’ ability to identify new markets and opportunities for new products. Financial inclusion can be a worthy goal only insofar as it helps reduce poverty levels sustainably. Given that the roots of poverty often lie outside the realm of finance, easing access to credit without addressing real economy constraints is unlikely to either boost growth or help fight poverty. Efforts to drive greater financial inclusion can, in fact, end up harming rather than benefiting those in whose name such efforts are launched: the poor and the vulnerable. Microcredit and Oradian Microcredit has been a huge success for a relatively narrow band of customers such as market vendors – borrowers with high-turnover businesses concentrated in highdensity geographies. Something like 200 to 300 million people enjoy these services worldwide. But – and here’s a controversial statement – the microcredit market as we know it today is saturated. The thing is, not everyone is a microentrepreneur with a high-turnover business living in a high-density area. And not everyone wants to be in debt all the time. However, everyone needs a range of financial services. This is why we need business model disruption, especially in Africa where many people are farmers and live in low-density locations. Here in the Oradian steps in to facilitate the financial inclusion and to predict for this micro-entrepreneurship disruption with the technology that brings across a seamless execution of financial inclusion goals.

ccording to one of the most talked about article in The Wall Street Journal, growing global demand for lowcost, swift transactions—by cutting out banks—is one of the main forces driving interest in alternative currencies in recent years. Another, of course, is pure speculation. Cryptocurrency (or crypto currency) is a medium of exchange using cryptography to secure the transactions and to control the creation of additional units of the currency. Cryptocurrencies are a subset of alternative currencies, or specifically of digital currencies. Bitcoin became the first decentralized cryptocurrency in 2009. Since then, numerous cryptocurrencies have been created. These are frequently called altcoins, as a blend of bitcoin alternative. Cryptocurrencies use decentralized control as opposed to centralized electronic money/centralized banking systems. The decentralized control is related to the use of bitcoin’s block chain transaction database in the role of a distributed ledger.

An overview on Cryptocurrency

Decentralized cryptocurrency is produced by the entire cryptocurrency system collectively, at a rate which is defined when the system is created and which is publicly known. In centralized banking and economic

systems such as the Federal Reserve System, corporate boards or governments control the supply of currency by printing units of fiat money or demanding additions to digital banking ledgers. However, companies or governments cannot produce units of cryptocurrency and as such, have not so far provided backing for other firms, banks or corporate entities which hold asset value measured in a decentralized cryptocurrency. The security of cryptocurrency ledgers is based on the assumption that the majority of miners are honestly trying to maintain the ledger, having financial incentive to do so. Most cryptocurrencies are designed to gradually decrease production of currency, placing an ultimate cap on the total amount of currency that will ever be in circulation, mimicking precious metals. Compared with ordinary currencies held by financial institutions or kept as cash on hand, cryptocurrencies are less susceptible to seizure by law enforcement.

OneCoin- The Financial Revolution for Digital Currency OneCoin Provides Borderless, Accessible and Affordable Financial Services OneCoin is a digital currency, based on cryptography and created through a process called ‘mining’. Just like the

localisation is the term of the millennial! What was once a true privilege and luxury in terms of something that is processed, or available, or sold, in far off lands is now nothing but a click away for someone sitting in a tranquil corner of the woods in a complete different hemisphere. Open economies, transparent trading, and a localisation of the world market has made this world spinning right in the tracks of the international export and trading- making it a huge part of the economies across the globe.

Brief History of the Bloom of World Trade and Export

For much of the postwar era, world trade grew faster than world GDP. Between 1950 and 2007, the value of world goods exports increased an average of 11 percent per year, compared to average GDP growth of 3.6 percent (calculated at market exchange rates), according to data from the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The volume of world goods exports also increased more quickly than GDP, averaging 6 percent per year. Goods make up the majority of total world exports. Between 1960 and 2008, according to the World Bank, the world exports-toGDP ratio increased from 12 percent to 29 percent (see chart below). The World Bank’s measure includes both goods and services. Several factors contributed to rapid growth in trade. One was the world’s increasing openness to trade. There was a proliferation of new trade agreements during the 1990s, including the Uruguay round of negotiations under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (the precursor to the WTO) and the North American Free Trade Agreement. By 2001 there were more than 200 regional trade agreements, although not all of them lasted. Another factor was the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, which started a process of economic liberalization in Eastern European countries and allowed them to begin trading with the world. But perhaps the most crucial entrant into the global economy was China. Despite the Great Trade Collapse of 2008-2009 and sluggish trade growth thereafter, the many benefits of trade is what attracts the attention from economists and policymakers.

he buzz in the world of finance, though it has always existed from time immemorial with peasants and merchants working towards managing their assets and wealth likewise. he transcending pace at which the evolution of economies is blooming, the important branch of extending technology in the everyday life is incumbent. Finance and Investment, the two bilateral terms of every economy, expecting a sustainable growth of these have inadvertently become applied to the technologies adopted to make these simpler and more accessible. Finance can also be defined as the science of money management. Finance aims to price assets based on their risk level and their expected rate of return. Finance can be broken into three different sub-categories: public finance, corporate finance and personal finance. In finance, the expected future benefit from investment is called a return (to investment). The return may consist of capital gain and/or investment income,

including dividends, interest, rental income etc. The economic return to an investment is the appropriately discounted value of the future returns to the investment. Investment generally results in acquiring an asset, also called an investment. If the asset is available at a price worth investing, it is normally expected either to generate income, or to appreciate in value, so that it can be sold at a higher price (or both). Financial Services- the Uprising Industry with Inclusion and Benefits for one and all Financial Services entities income exceeds its expenditure can lend or invest the excess income to help that excess income produce more income in the future. The lender receives interest, the borrower pays a higher interest than the lender receives, and the financial intermediary earns the difference for arranging the loan. Though the variety of markets available for these exchange of finances has only flourished over the years and the more the options the more the rising need for the knowledge of the varied market beneficiaries and the changing values of the currencies and the share value of the innumerable stock options running across the globe. Capital Market:A capital market is a financial market in which long-term debt or equity-backed securities are bought and sold. Capital markets are defined as markets in which money is provided for periods longer than a year. Capital markets channel the wealth of savers to those who can put it to longterm productive use, such as companies/ governments making long-term investments. Financial regulators, such as the UK’s Bank of England (BoE) or the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), oversee the capital markets in their jurisdictions to protect investors against fraud, among other duties. Modern capital markets are almost invariably hosted on computer-based electronic trading systems; most can be accessed only by entities within the financial sector or the treasury departments of governments and corporations, but some can be accessed directly by the public.

Equity Capital Market: An Equity Capital Market (ECM) is a market between “companies and financial institutions” that is aimed at earning money for the company. Examples of financial institutions involved include Goldman Sachs and Citigroup. The company gives information about their finances to the institution, and the institution helps the company increase their profits through “market transactions.” Institutions providing ECM services may be involved in initial public offerings (IPO),convertible bonds, and other services involving equity. They may also raise money for a company merge or acquisition of another company. There was a peak in the amount of profits generated through ECM in 2006-2007, but profits took a dive following those years. It has been reported that ECM profits are beginning to normalize.

Stock Market:A stock market, equity market or share market is the aggregation of buyers and sellers (a loose network of economic transactions, not a physical facility or discrete entity) of stocks (also called shares); these may include securities listed on a stock exchange as well as those only traded privately. A stock exchange is a place or organization by which stock traders (people and companies) can trade stocks. Companies may want to get their stock listed on a stock exchange. Other stocks may be traded “over the counter” (otc), that is, through a dealer. A large company will usually have its stock listed on many exchanges across the world. Exchanges may also cover other types of security such as fixed interest securities or interest derivatives. Social Finances: The new age approach of handling money, and indeed a smarter

and more technologically driven way to imagine and execute the exchange of money across borders, resulting in saving on the excess taxes and duties regulated on such exchange of money in the orthodox fashion.

These approaches to investment and funding share the twin focus of stimulating positive social and environmental returns for investors and the larger world. Some social investors try to effect environmental return, which is referred to as a regard for a triple bottom line. Similarly, it can be seen as 3D investing, which accounts for risk, return and impact for consideration by investors. Water, Power & Waste Management Global Sustainable Solution for Water & Toxic Waste Management & Power Generation

F

or thousands of years the world’s inhabitants have waged war in an effort to control the destiny of the world resources. Though today we face a new enemy, an offspring of the fastest growing economies in the developing world. Pollution has taken over to create a new environmental and humanitarian crisis that the world has never seen, and that is unbecoming. With the industrialisation of the developing world, economies are devouring the planet’s resources at an unprecedented rate. Global governments have allowed industry to develop in a mostly unregulated fashion resulting in millions upon millions of people questioning their very survival as they are forced to struggle for lack of drinkable water and clean air. With dwindling water resources, growing population and water infrastructure development projects mounting into the hundreds of billions of dollars, it is not possible to overestimate the World’s population’s need for clean drinking water. Hundreds of millions of people now face a reality of catastrophic proportions. Dwindling aquifers, rampant pollution and natural resources mired by industrial, chemical and toxic contamination. Water borne disease and contamination are increasing at an alarming rate while access to uncontaminated drinking water is plummeting.

Entire cities and geographical regions face imminent disaster and the governments of the world must address that issue or face dire consequences.

The Dire Need of Waste Management Technology

Humans have created a planet wide crisis, suffocating ourselves with relentless pollution and unstoppable global climate change. This brings the world to the brim of an effective waste management technological advancement and ecological understanding of the need for waste management. Waste management is the handling of discarded materials. Recycling and composting, which transform waste into useful products, are forms of waste management. The management of waste also includes disposal, such as landfilling. Waste can be almost anything, including food, leaves, newspapers, bottles, construction debris, and chemicals from a factory, candy wrappers, disposable diapers, old cars, or radioactive materials. People have always produced waste, but as industry and technology have evolved and the human population has grown, waste management has become increasingly complex. A primary objective of waste management today is to protect the public and the environment from potentially harmful effects of waste. Some waste materials are normally safe, but can become hazardous if not managed properly. For example, 1 gal (3.75 l) of used motor oil can September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 137

potentially contaminate one million gal (3,790,000 l) of drinking water. Langenburg Technologies has undertaken decades of Research and Development to prepare for this complex global undertaking. The LangenburgWater and Power Unit is capable of treating water on the municipal level while providing clean alternative energy as a byproduct. They are highly engrossed in the technology to convert waste stream to fuel, eliminating the waste stream entirely.

The Most Widely Used Waste Management Methods across the Globe Landfill: Most popularly used method of waste disposal used today,it focuses attention on burying the waste in the land. Incineration/Combustion: A type disposal method in which municipal solid wastes are burned at high temperatures so as to convert them into residue and gaseous products.

138

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation

Recovery and Recycling: Resource recovery is the process of taking useful discarded items for a specific next use. Recycling is the process of converting waste products into new products to prevent energy usage and consumption of fresh raw materials. Plasma gasification: During the treatment solid waste by plasma gasification, the waste’s molecular bonds are broken down as result of the intense heat in the vessels and the elemental components. Composting: An easy and natural bio-degradation process that takes organic wastes i.e. remains of plants and garden and kitchen waste and turns into nutrient rich food for your plants. Waste to Energy (Recover Energy): Converting of nonrecyclable waste items into useable heat, electricity, or fuel through a variety of processes.

The municipal units convert water in any state by removing pollutants and toxins with the end result being highly purified, balanced drinking water. The pollutants and toxins are extracted and converted into renewable electrical energy that can be distributed and sold directly to the client or to the municipal power grid. Under this benefit the Unit provides a surplus revenue model that quickly offsets its cost and provides a strong revenue stream to the project participants.

Langenburg Plasma System

The Langenburg Plasma System was designed to process hazardous waste material. Our patented plasma system processes material through a dual plasma arc breaking the material into its elemental forms. The covalent bonds of the compounds within the field are broken at the molecular level leaving them as non-volatile elements. Our advanced monitoring systems permit observation of the contents within the plasma field allowing us to extract the elements held in September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 139

suspension in their purest elemental form. The by-product of our plasma system is gasification, purification, and separation.

Langenburg Waste Water Treatment Plants

Langenburg wastewater treatment plants were engineered and designed as a comprehensive solution to wastewater and commercial waste disposal. These systems combine the technologies built into Langenburg Technologies Water & Power Units with our Langenburg Plasma System allowing us to destroy solid and industry waste while providing clean water, alternative energy and no adverse environmental impact.

Towards a Cleaner, Better, Resourcefully Enriched Futur The most impending need of the hour is to imbibe a ubiquitous approach towards the waste management techniques with the following objectives on hand in terms of the technology involved • Addressing polluted global water through the implementation water & power technology. • Creating highly purified drinking water for public consumption. • Generating electricity for municipal use as well as self-powered water plants. • Cleaning polluted water sources by removing all impurities. • Removing and converting pollutants and toxins from toxic water into usable industrial bi-products and fuel for clean power generation. • Returning planet earth to its original and most pristine state.

140

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation

Public attitudes also play a pivotal role in decisions about waste management. Virtually every proposed new landfill or waste-to-energy plant is opposed by people who live near the site. Public officials and planners refer to this reaction as NIMBY, which stands for “Not In My BackYard.” If an opposition group becomes vocal or powerful enough, a city or county council is not likely to approve a proposed waste-disposal project. The public also wields considerable influence with businesses. Recycling and waste prevention initiatives enjoy strong public support. With an amalgamated approach and a full support from the public, the government entities and the technological mega-powers, the ecological catastrophe of pollution and ineffective waste management can be handled well before the humans have to suffer in its aftermath.

T

he metaphysical and practicalpracticalities for regenerative development and design as anindividual field within the ecological sustainability were laid in the 1990s. However, their origins derive from the scientific and technological advances dating back to the early half of the last century. On a larger level the practices which emerge from thisfield of work are in a stage of evolution and are expanding to cover agradually broad and sophisticated spectrum of sustainability concerns. Once these nuances are held together by a common philosophical core, they thrust to extend beyond the traditional aspects of design and technology, addressing the different nature of thinking and interactivity that is required to design and engage in a regenerative process. “Learning how to apply a regenerative approach begins not with a change of

techniques but rather with a change of mind—a new way of thinking about how to plan, design, construct, and operate the built environment. Podnet has leveraged into this technological expansion and has an open source collaboration to develop sustainable closed automated SolaRoof Environment building applications, implemented through cooperatives & social enterprise businesses.

Regenerative Agriculture

One of the most thriving fields in terms of regenerative technology is Regenerative Agriculture. Regenerative agriculture is a sub-sector practice of organic farming designed to build soil health or to regenerate unhealthy soils. The practices associated with regenerative agriculture are in a general sense approached to in terms of organic farming, including maintaining a high percentage of organic matter in soils, minimum tillage, biodiversity, composting, mulching, crop rotation, cover crops, and green manures. September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 143

Regenerative Agriculture varies from Organic Agriculture

Regenerative Agriculture has been seen asa long-term integrated approach that advocates the use of technology to build soil health, promote nutrient retention, and encourage pest and disease resistance. Major practices which are associated with regenerative farming are management practices associated with organic agriculture. In exercise, these practices can be applied in any type of horticulture and properly managed livestock with the most essential goal to build soil organic matter which benefits for plant health and farm sustainability. The end product of the technological advance is to produce healthy soil, healthy food, clean water and clean air using inexpensive inputs local to the farm. These practices result in minimizing biota disturbance and erosion losses while incorporating carbon rich amendments and retaining the biomass of roots and shoots.

The Regenerative Technology for POD farms

PPOD farms are built on the controlled SolaRoof environment, which is a closed atmosphere enriched with CO2 for optimized plant growth and water production. Plants within SolaRoof environment, withalgae use the Photosynthetic Active Radiation energy from sunlight to produce biomass from carbon dioxide, water and nutrients.

Solar thermal energy is captured and stored in the winter to provide warmth to the Liquid Bubble Insulation at night. Or, on a hot and sunny summer day the Liquid Cooling and Bubble Shading system delivers chilling energy to the building envelope for low cost climate control.

What does it do?

The carbohydrates are converted into bio-methane that is generated with a process of Anaerobic Digestion (AD) to fuel clean, zero carbon electric power generation. The effluent is a nutrient rich source of organic fertilizer for the growing of our food, feed, fiber and fuel crops.

TheSolaRoof Closed Ecological Environment is able to operate offgrid and it generates a surplus of energy for human habitats and growing operation that is powered on clean sustainable energy, from the biofuel from the AD and with oil from the Mass Algae Culture system that creates high value from both biomass and organic nutrients materials.

The water based soap solution is stored within tanks within SolaRoof environment and is circulated with pumps to flow in a thin film over the inner layer of the (double layered) building envelope and is collected back to these tanks that are coupled by heat exchangers to a Liquid Thermal Mass system.

The SolaRoof bubble insulation and shading technology has been tested and proven to work in virtually any climate. These SolaRoof bubble buildings can be made from scratch in a DIY style with recycled material, as well as from high quality modular DIY buildingkits can be bought from the POD Enterprise Network.

SolaRoof is disruptive structural technology that has undergone research and developments for more than 30 years. First the technology was widely patented but in 2001 the patents where dedicated to Creative Commons licenses to ensure that all humans could access and apply the technology. The design of these POD farms are based on strong and light structures with high strength and transperancy cover under controlled solar environment. The dynamic liquid Insulation & shading facilitates for a closed atmosphere with CO2 enriched growth. They also have a Phyto Tech where the algae biomass is cultured for Bio Fuel. With the Open Eco Design - a collaboration to develop the ecological life support systems required for selfreliant homes and communities. With the closed atmosphere enriched with CO2 it facilitates optimized plant growth and oxygen production. Plants within SolaRoof atmosphere, with some bacteria and Protista’s use the energy from sunlight to produce glucose from carbon dioxide and water. The glucose is converted into pyruvate that releases adenosine triphosphate (ATP) by cellular respiration to form oxygen.

The Environmental Vision and Mission of POD farms

“Together we can build a world of abundance for all” PODnet is about developing and producing sustainable eco-building solutions and systems, products that are designed to secure clean food, energy and water for all human beings on planet Earth. practices to make regenerative solutions available for all people to make people and the planet sustainable. AgriPOD is a research and development platform that builds on the SolaRoof bubble building technology. The POD Enterprise Network is a Cooperative Organization that is emerging all around the globe through theirPODpioneers, PODworks social enterprises and other PODnet members that contribute and work towards the common goals of providing sustainable clean food, energy and water for all people and make the sustainable for future generations. The vision and mission is to create a channel for collaboration/cooperation which becomes a catalyst for mobilizing a local to global movement of social entrepreneurs that give and get support from the community.

Why Embrace Regenerative Design Technology for Sustainability

Ecological problems are in many ways design problems. In today’s continually expanding and ever flourishing world our cities, cars, houses, and technologies often do not fit in the biosphere. Ecological design requires the ability to comprehend patterns that connect, tolook beyond the boxes and see things in their larger context. PODnet offers you solutions for exploring and contributing to a healthy ecology with the optimum utilisation of resources.

SlingShot Water Technology By Dean Kamen

The Man Who Is Fixing the World, One Invention at a Time 152

T

he most impending and unavoidable crisis of the world today is the Safe Water Crisis. About 71% of the Earth’s surface is water-covered, and the oceans hold about 96.5% of all Earth’s water. Yet we live today in an age and era of technological inventions and enhancements with a comparatively less advancement in terms of quenching the water crisis. The ennui of water scarcity affects every continent and around 2.8 billion people around the world at least one month out of every year. More than 1.2 billion people lack access to clean drinking water. Around one fifth of the world’s population currently live in regions affected by physical water scarcity, where there is inadequate water resources to meet a country’s or regional demand, including the water needed to fulfil the demand of ecosystems to function effectively. Economic water scarcity is caused by a lack of investment in infrastructure or technology to draw water from rivers, aquifers or other water sources, or insufficient human capacity to satisfy the demand for water. One quarter of the world’s population is affected by economic water scarcity. Though the physical water scarcity might not be in our hands, the proliferating opportunities of resolving the water crisis with the help of technology is the most urgent and demanding need of the millennia.

Facts about Water Crisis

The global nature of water crisis has been underlined in multiple literature and reports published worldwide. In south Asia there have been massive losses of groundwater, which has been pumped up with reckless lack of control over the past decade. About 600 million people live on the 2,000 sq. km area that extends from eastern Pakistan, across the hot dry plains of northern India and into Bangladesh, and the land is the most intensely irrigated in the world. Up to 75% of farmers rely on pumped groundwater to water their crops

and water use is intensifying – at the same time that satellite images shows supplies are shrinking alarmingly. Changing precipitation and melting snow and ice are already altering hydrological systems in many regions. Glaciers continue to shrink worldwide, affecting villages and towns downstream. The survey result infer that the fraction of global population experiencing water scarcity is destined to increase throughout the 21st century. Some of the highlighting facts of this Global Water Crisis are • More than 750 million people have no access to safe water for personal use • Every 20 seconds, a child dies from a water related disease • 30,000 people die every week from diseases caused by unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions • Women in water-stressed regions walk on average 3.5 miles every day to get water to their homes • A five-minute shower in America uses more water than the average person in a slum in a developing country uses throughout an entire day • 1 in 9 people do not have access to an improved water source • In developing countries, dirty water is a greater threat to human safety than violent conflict • Dripping faucets in developed countries lose more water than is available each day to more than 1 billion people • By 2025, close to 3 billion people will live in water scarce regions of the world • Water and sanitation are some of the most powerful preventive medicines available to governments to reduce infectious disease

Dean Kamen’s efforts to fix the world one invention at a time

SlingShot focuses on Segway inventor Dean Kamen, his fascinating life, and his work to solve the world’s water crisis. Iconoclast, Kamen, is a modern hero. His inventions, mostly medical devices, help people in need and ease suffering. Several documentaries have September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 153

been produced about the world’s dire water challenges. SlingShot is a film about an indomitable man who just might have enough passion, will, and innovative thinking to create a solution for a crisis that affects billions. Fifty percent of all human illness is the result of water borne pathogens. Dean Kamen has invented an energy efficient vapour compression distiller that can turn any unfit source of water (seawater, poisoned well water, river sludge, etc.) into potable, safe water without any need for chemical additives or filters. Kamen has nicknamed his device the SlingShot as in the David and Goliath story. In Kamen’s imagining, undeveloped countries are filled with little Davids’, and just like the biblical slingshot and stone, the SlingShot device is the tiny piece of technology that is going to take down the gigantic Goliath of bad water. This indefatigable man just might have enough passion, will, and innovative thinking to create a solution for a crisis affecting billions. An eccentric genius with a provocative worldview, Kamen takes on grandchallenges one invention at a time, helping people in need. Half of all human illness comes from water-borne pathogens. Kamen’s SlingShot is an

154

energy-efficient machine that turns any unfit water (seawater, poisoned wells, river sludge) into pure, safe water – no chemicals or filters needed. Recently, Kamen allied himself with Coca-Cola. SlingShot is both an inspirational character study and a look at the trajectory of Kamen’s vapour compression distiller from its earliest development through recent trials in rural Ghana and beyond.

About the SlingShot Technology

The SlingShot machine is capable of producing roughly 1000 litters (250 gallons) of pure, distilled water every day, using only the power of a hairdryer. It is the size of a small college dorm refrigerator. Once installed in a remote village, it can supply the daily water needs for up to 100 people, providing drinking, washing and cooking water. With this clean water supply, general health conditions will improve instantaneously. This technology that would transform the 97% of water that is undrinkable into water that can be used and consumed on the spot, readily and inexpensively. The device takes contaminated water and runs it through a vapour compression distiller

that produces clean water, producing 250 gallons daily (~946 litres), enough for 100 people. The test devices have been used with “anything that looks wet”, including polluted river water, saline ocean water and raw sewage. Kamen built two machines — a power generator that would output one kilowatt from “anything that burns”, and the water distiller, which uses the electricity. In 2005, the power generator was tested for six months in a village in Bangladesh and generated enough electricity to light 70 energyefficient light bulbs. The hand-made prototype cost US$100,000 each. The technical characteristics and goals of this machine are • Five years of operation without overhaul or maintenance • Use less than a kilowatt of power (lower than the power consumption of a microwave oven) • Generate 1000 litters of pure water/day, enough for 100 people for hygiene and cooking • Meets the U.S. pharmacopoeia standard for water for injections • Requires no pre-treatment, pipelines, engineers, consumables (osmosis membranes, charcoal, etc.), or installation permits

Make a Difference

Wastewater treatment is highly capital intensive, restricting access to this technology in some regions; furthermore the rapid increase in population of many countries makes this a race that is difficult to win. Reducing groundwater over drafting is usually politically unpopular, and can have major economic impacts on farmers. Moreover, this strategy necessarily reduces crop output, something the world can illafford given the current population. September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 155

At more realistic levels, developing countries can strive to achieve primary wastewater treatment or secure septic systems, and carefully analyse wastewater outfall design to minimise impacts to drinking water and to ecosystems. Developed countries can not only share technology better, including cost-effective wastewater and water

treatment systems but also in hydrological transport modelling. Imbibing and recreating these technologies worldwide with the common potential and view to curb the water crisis should be the next actionable step for this technology driven millennia!

Communication Technology

T

oday’s smartphones offer a multitude of features for productivity, and are usually received on a welcome note in anyone’s pocket. Though the trend in the mobile technology world is to own an iPhone on contract or have an Android phone offered on contractthere is also a thriving market for prepay phones also termed as burner phones in the US. A prepay mobile phone (also commonly referred to as pay-as-you-go, pay-asyou-talk, pay and go, “’go-phone”’ or prepaid) is a mobile phone for which credit is purchased in advance of service use. The purchased credit is used to pay for mobile phone services at the point the service is accessed or consumed. If there is no available

credit, then access to the requested service is denied by the mobile phone network. Users are able to top up their credit at any time using a variety of payment mechanisms.

A Brief History of Pre Pay Mobile Phones

The history of the prepaid mobile phone begins in the 1990s, when larger markets were being sought after by the mobile phone operators. Before this date, all mobile phone services were offered on a post-paid basis, which excluded people with a poor credit rating. One of the first pre-paid cards was called “Mimo” and was launched by TMN, the mobile phone operator of

Portugal Telecom, in September 1995. [5] In 2006 Swisscom celebrated ten years with its product and service “NATEL(R) easy” which also holds a patent on the topic “Prepaid mobile subscriber identification card and method implemented thereby”.

Why use a Burner Phone?

There can be multiple reasons why the large customer base for the pre pay phones essentially choose to use a prepay phone instead of its alternative post-paid phones. Here are a few reasons laid out which entice an enormous customer strength: Emergencies This is the most obvious reason why people prefer keeping an old burner. Though it should be noted that the FCC (and many other similar national governing bodies) mandates that any cell phone must be able to call 911, even if that phone doesn’t subscribe to the carrier’s network. Which is why most people hold on to their outdated Android phones since 911 can be reached even with a deactivated device. 2. To Log Out Smartphones have not only taken over the world technology market, but they have also taken over our remote social and cultural lives. From the point one wakes up till the time the eyes drop dead tired, we are hooked to this smart phone technology and the brains have been so enslaved to clog any thinking beyond this hemisphere of virtual reality. So much so that people feel burned out with this high-tech oversharing and often feel an intense yearning to zone out. A burner phone is a fantastic way to accomplish this. It’s a means of letting go of the superfluous distractions of social media without forgoing the convenience of being reachable by phone or SMS if you really need to. You can add your most important

contacts to the phone or pledge to only use it only for emergencies. 3. Non Conventional Energy Technology

T

he world is experiencing an environmental shift that has highlighted, pondered, discussed and talked about quite too often. Technology, on the other hand, is evolving rapidly with the changing requirements of the world and the ecology associated with the world. With the ennui of the unrestrained and excessive use of the conventional resources, the world is now left without a choice to explore options which imbibe renewable and nonconventional resources, especially for the ever growing and burgeoning energy requirements in the different fields of the everyday human life. To start over from the scratch seems quite a challenging and audacious advent to take up! However, it is the little steps of innovation and changes that are now gearing up momentum across the globe.

Why Renewable Energy?

Renewable energy is generally defined as energy that is collected from resources which are naturally replenished on a human timescale, such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat. Renewable energy often provides

energy in four important areas: electricity generation, air and water heating/cooling, transportation, and rural (off-grid) energy services.

Some of the highlights of using renewable energy:

• Based on REN21’s 2016 report, renewables contributed 19.2% to humans’ global energy consumption and 23.7% to their generation of electricity in 2014 and 2015, respectively. • Renewable energy resources exist over wide geographical areas, in contrast to other energy sources, which are concentrated in a limited number of countries. • Worldwide investments in renewable technologies amounted to more than US$286 billion in 2015, with countries like China and the United States heavily investing in wind, hydro, solar and biofuels. • Globally, there are an estimated 7.7 million jobs associated with the renewable energy industries, with solar photovoltaics being the largest renewable employer. • Some places and at least two countries, Iceland and Norway generate all their electricity using renewable energy already, and many other countries have the set a goal to reach 100% renewable energy in the future.

Solar Energy and Solar Power- The Power Resource of the Millennia! Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the Sun that is harnessed using a range of ever-evolving technologies such as solar heating, photovoltaics, solar thermal energy, solar architecture and artificial photosynthesis.

Whereas, solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power. Concentrated solar power systems (Unified Solar) use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into an electric current using the photovoltaic effect.

164

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation

Unlike fossil fuel based technologies, solar power does not lead to any harmful emissions during operation, but the production of the panels leads to some amount of pollution. Commercial concentrated solar power plants were first developed in the 1980s. The 392 MW IVANPAH installation is the largest concentrating solar power plant in the world, located in the Mojave Desert of California.

IVANPAH Solar Electric Generating System To Deliver on a Solar Promise! The IVANPAH Solar Electric Generating System is designed to do exactly that. IVANPAH utilizes proven solar thermal technology and a low environmental impact design to power California’s clean energy economy with costcompetitive and reliable solar power.

The IVANPAH Solar Electric Generating System is a concentrated solar thermal plant in the California Mojave Desert, with a gross capacity of 392 megawatts (MW). It deploys 173,500 heliostats, each with two mirrors, focusing solar energy on boilers located on three centralized solar power towers. Unit 1 of the project was connected to the grid in September 2013 in an initial sync testing. The facility formally opened on February 13, 2014, and it is currently the world’s largest solar thermal power station. Installed with a series of 170,000 mirrors the world’s largest solar power installation powers 140,000 California homes.

An Overview of the Project

• The IVANPAH Solar Power Installation is a 377 megawatt net solar complex using mirrors to focus the power of the sun on solar receivers atop power towers. • It consists of three solar thermal power plants on a 4,000 acres (1,600 ha) tract of public land near the Mojave Desert and the California. • The electricity generated by all three plants is enough to serve more than 140,000 homes in California during the peak hours of the day. • The complex will reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by more than 400,000 tons per year. • The facility is comprised of three separate plants built in phases between 2010 and 2013, and uses BrightSource Energy’s LPT solar thermal technology. The investments in the project were made by the three different entities that partner this global giant for solar power. The project was developed by BrightSource Energy and Bechtel. It cost $2.2 billion; the largest investor

in the project is NRG Energy, a power generating company based in Princeton, New Jersey, that has contributed $300 million. Google has contributed $168 million; the U.S. government provided a $1.6 billion loan guarantee, and the plant is built on public land.

The Technology Involved in the World’s Largest Solar Power Generating Installation The facility consists of fields of heliostat mirrors focusing sunlight on receivers located on centralized solar power towers. The receivers generate steam to drive specially adapted steam turbines. For the first plant, the largest ever fully solar-powered steam turbinegenerator set was ordered, using a 123 MW Siemens SST-900 singlecasing reheat turbine. Besides steamturbine generators Siemens supplied instrumentation and control systems. Final approval was gained in October 2010. On October 27, 2010, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, and other dignitaries gathered in the Mojave Desert to officially break ground on the project. The Ivanpah plants use BrightSource Energy’s “Luz Power Tower 550 technology” (LPT 550). The LPT 550 solar system produces electricity the same way as traditional power plants – by creating high temperature steam to turn a turbine. BrightSource uses thousands of mirrors called heliostats to reflect sunlight onto a receiver being developed by Riley Power Inc. filled with water that sits atop a tower. When the sunlight hits the receiver, the water inside is heated and creates high temperature steam. The steam is September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 165

then piped to a conventional turbine, which generates electricity. Additionally, the power towers have ‘receiver units’ at their top on which the mirror fields focus their reflected light. During operation, these receiver units become extremely hot, such that they glow and appear brightly lit. Because they are high above the ground, these glowing receiver units will be a visible distraction to persons at many of the KOPs [Key Observation Points], including travellers utilizing I-15.

Reviews on the Massive Project Not everyone thinks the solar plant represents a brighter future. Environmentalists warn that the construction threatens the desert ecosystem, while the heated plumes of air from the towers could singe migrating birds.

But more than 75 percent of Californians say they support using desert lands for renewable energy production. And come next year, when Ivanpah flips the on switch, it will nearly double the amount of solar thermal energy produced in the United States.

166

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation

BrightSource estimated that the Ivanpah facility would involve some 1,000 jobs at the peak of construction, 86 permanent jobs, and total economic benefits of $3 billion.

Become a part of the Global Solar Power Generation

Different parts of the world experience different amounts of sunshine, depending on latitude and weather. Locations nearer the equator receive many more hours of sunshine than those further north or south, thus photovoltaic panels can be more economically desirable in some places more than others. Imbibing the mainstream Solar Thermal Power technology has inadvertently become the need of the hour and the smart choice for generating power in times of declining natural resources.

Logistics & Transportation Technology

T

he world of business has evolved over the past decades. With the globalisation having seeped into every businesses and the world has become an oyster for the business enthusiasts. Discussions about globalization involve the movement of three things: capital, people, and resources. As quoted in an article in The Economist, “‘Globalisation’ has become the buzzword of the last two decades. The sudden increase in the exchange of knowledge, trade and capital around the world, driven by technological innovation, from the internet to shipping containers, thrust the term into the limelight.” Driven by overwhelming market forces, globalization has forced countries and companies to become more efficient, creating the infrastructure and competitive advantage necessary to survive the early rounds of a clash that will undoubtedly go beyond the last bell. The lines are thinner now and the ropes are tighter, and hence the unavoidable indulgence of technology to enable the business smoothly. The major Supply Chain Industry systems today are focused towards the logistics and inventory management tools, like SAP. However, there is an equally dire need to

establish a seamless transportation management system, which manages the transportation involved in the business efficiently and effectively in terms of the time and money involved. A transportation management system (TMS) is a subset of supply chain management concerning transportation operations and may be part of an enterprise resource planning system. A TMS usually “sits” between an ERP or legacy order processing and warehouse/distribution module. A typical scenario would include both inbound (procurement) and outbound (shipping) orders to be evaluated by the TMS Planning Module offering the user various suggested routing solutions. The companies specialised in this field i.e. the freight companies have an upper hand when it comes to the TMS technology and management. Freight companies are companies that specialize in the moving (or “forwarding”) of freight, or cargo, from one place to another. These companies are divided into several variant sections. For example, international freight forwarders ship goods internationally from country to country, and domestic freight forwarders, ship goods within a single country.

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 169

There are various methods of shipping goods; by air, road, sea, or rail. Some companies offer multi-modal solutions, this means that they offer more than one service, in many cases air and sea and in other cases air, sea, and road.

used to manage all shipping and transportation activity from one centralized location, with built-in support for many types of shipments, including Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) and Truckload (TL).

The most common multi-modal way of shipping is referred to as inter-modal meaning truck pickup to rail to truck delivery.

Investment in the freight broker software package will reward you with greater efficiency and profitability in the business.

A Few Good tips for a Brilliant Transport Management System (TMS) Finding a good solution for Transportation Management Systems TMS can be a mind numbing experience. A few good tips to elevate your search for a good TMS can be very helpful: Dedicated Server vs. Cloud Server Dedicated or locally hosted servers require a larger investment in infrastructure for the purchase of the servers. You will also need to hire a technical contact to maintain the servers on a regular basis. Cloud based servers require a smaller investment since you don’t need to buy hardware. Economies of scale are also realized since companies that lease the servers are massive such as Amazon Web Services (AWS). LTL Rating Engine A rating engine enables your operations staff to make smarter business decisions when selecting LTL carriers. The rating engine will let you know the pricing for each carrier for that particular lane, the transit time, and the insurance. If transit time isn’t an issue and the freight isn’t high valued you may want to choose the cheapest carrier. Another thing to look out for is whether or not the rating engine in September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 171

the TMS will rate off of rate tables via SMC3 and/or web-services/API. QuickBooks Integration Do you currently have to do a double entry into QuickBooks from your TMS or even worse from excel spreadsheets? Or do you have to export your accounting information out of your TMS to import it into QuickBooks? A TMS should have a sync setup so that the information in the TMS, and QuickBooks automatically syncs through a web connector. thriving and booming business in the world of global industrialisation and consumerism! E-commerce is the new key word for every business idea, with conventional and robust businesses switching to online platforms and enticing customer from various backgrounds all across the globe. Moreover, this online felicitation of buying and selling allows the customer to purchase products which are sold across the globe, without the physical limitation of geographies and distance. In definition, Electronic commerce, commonly written as e-commerce or eCommerce, is the trading or facilitation of trading in products or services using computer networks, such as the Internet or online social networks. Electronic commerce draws on technologies such as mobile commerce, electronic funds transfer, supply chain management, Internet marketing, online transaction processing, electronic data interchange (EDI), inventory management systems, and automated data collection systems. E-commerce businesses may employ some or all of the following: • Online shopping web sites for retail sales direct to consumers • Providing or participating in online marketplaces, which process third-party businessto-consumer or consumer-toconsumer sales • Business-to-business buying and selling • Business-to-business electronic data interchange • Business-to-business electronic data interchange • Engaging in pretail for launching new products and services

B2B Business and Marketing Business-to-business (B2B) refers to a situation where one business makes a commercial transaction with another. This typically occurs when

1. A business is sourcing materials for their production process (e.g. a food manufacturer purchasing salt). 2. A business needs the services of another for operational reasons (e.g. a food manufacturer employing an accountancy firm to audit their finances). 3. A business re-sells goods and services produced by others (e.g. a retailer buying the end product from the food manufacturer). B2B (business-to-business) marketing is marketing of products to businesses or other organizations for use in production of goods, for use in general business operations (such as office supplies), or for resale to other consumers, such as a wholesaler selling to a retailer.

B2C Business and Marketing “Business-to-Consumer,” usually abbreviated B2C, is associated to electronic business activities which focus on the retail transactions rather than activities conducted between two businesses, which means that it will focus on the business associated directly with the customer rather than other business units.

Business-to-customer marketing refers to the tactics and best practices used to promote products and services among consumers.B2C marketing differs from B2B marketing in a number of key ways, one being that it often depends on campaigns’ abilities to invoke emotional responses, rather than solely demonstrating value.

C2B Business and Marketing

Consumer-to-business (C2B) is a business model in which consumers (individuals) create value and businesses consume that value. For example, when a consumer writes reviews or when a consumer gives a useful idea for new product development then that consumer is creating value for the business if the business adopts the input. Excepted concepts are crowd sourcing and co-creation. September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 175

C2B model, also called a reverse auction or demand collection model, enables buyers to name or demand their own price, which is often binding, for a specific good or service. The website collects the demand bids then offers the bids to participating sellers.

Based on this platform, the aim is to provide best purchasing experience to consumers from different areas. In addition, they also offer certain services, such as bonded product storage, consignment business and purchasing service.

A Global and Holistic range of Commodities

The commodities offered by the online business portal varies in terms of the different fields and amenities, ranging across sectors and across locations. Some of their key offering sectors are: 1. Apparel 2. Construction & Real Estate 3. Energy 4. Farm Products 5. Furniture 6. Household Items 7. Industrial Products 8. Intangible Assets 9. Marine Fisheries 10. Tools 11. Transportation 12. Value Added Services

The Parchim online mall also caters to various brands and commodities that houses all the major retail brands under one roof! Execute Best Practices to Ensure Maximised e-Commerce Success As a matter of principle, individual online shops require their own unique optimisation measures. Nonetheless there are a number of recommendations that apply to all – some very basic, others much more complex. Make the first impression is worth the visit Investing in the Google search with a subsequent click on an Ad Words ad, Using URLs in which relevant keywords are included helps to make your product range more visible in search engines, execute organic SEM and SEO actions. These steps will enhance an excellent first impression that lasts a longer time on the customers mind.

Strengthen your customer’s trust Everything that enforces your shop’s authority and establishes trust among your customers should be accentuated and made easily available – from quality seals for certified dealers, to shipping terms and contact information. Ensuring a seamless flow of navigation on the website Visitors “scan” websites according to certain patterns, instead of reading them fully. If it is difficult for them to orientate themselves, they will leave the website very quickly. In order to avoid such inconvenience, you can place the most important shop functionality – your on-site search – prominently in the upper part of your site. A search box that is sufficiently large, that is not placed next to other input boxes and that stands out due to its colouring or contrast, is more obvious for shop visitors and will ensure the search is used. Facilitate the purchase decisions to be faster Purchase decisions can be accelerated when the search result ranking adapts automatically to the customer behaviour. If you have access to analytical data, then use these to identify current trends and to prioritise requested products. By offering your customers filtering features in order to refine their search results, their path to the right product is significantly shortened. Create the perfect e-commerce product data stream Valid, complete and consistently structured product data forms the basis for highly targeted on-sitesearch and for well-functioning filtering navigation.

Recycle Technology

The future of waste management and recycling Autour Recycling Technology

T

he paradigm of business across the world has seen a shift not only in terms of the technology for the production and manufacturing but also in terms of the waste management whilst and after the production or manufacturing of goods and products. Most businesses today have a tie up with some of the most technologically advanced and ecologically sound waste management tools and services offered by various such waste management units. Waste is not just a problem which needs regulation to ensure least harmful disposal. It is also a resource. Recognition of this was one of the most important changes in the waste laws set under the waste management techniques across the globe with the ennui of a healthier and non-conventional source of energy. This change has strongly advocated by many industries especially the paper and coarse reject industry, as the best practices in industry were not at all supported by the out-dated legal framework. Paper recycling is the most natural thing to do, and has gained much momentum in the recent years. With the continuously increasing recycling rate the fibre yield from recycling is bound to decline, producing continuously more reject. As prices of paper for recycling and cost of reject management are ever increasing, the move to seeing the value of reject is also economically important. Paper for recycling should be seen as a source of many valuable components that can be used for the production of additional high value products alongside with paper.

KipaşKağit has contacted Autour a year ago because of its beverage carton processing project. The beverage carton processing is comparable with the Coarse Rejects processing. The main difference is the way the contents are mixed in the input material.

Different types of Paper Waste involved in Paper Recycling There are three categories of paper that can be used as feedstocks for making recycled paper: 1. Mill broke 2. Pre-consumer waste 3. Post-consumer waste.

Mill broke is paper trimmings and other paper scrap from the manufacture of paper, and is recycled internally in a paper mill. Pre-consumer waste is material which left the paper mill but was discarded before it was ready for consumer use. Post-consumer waste is material discarded after consumer use, such as old corrugated containers (OCC), old magazines, and newspapers. Paper suitable for recycling is called “scrap paper”, often used to produce molded pulp packaging. The process of waste paper recycling involves mixing used paper with water and chemicals to break it down. It is then chopped up and heated, which breaks it down further into strands of cellulose, a type of organic plant material; this resulting mixture is called pulp, or slurry. It is strained through screens, which remove any glue or plastic that may still be in the mixture then cleaned, de-inked, bleached, and mixed with water. Then it can be made into new recycled paper.

KipaşKağit is a paper mill near Kahramanmaraş in Turkey and part of Kipaş Holding. KipaşKağit has an input capacity of 425.000 tonnes waste paper per year.

The Processing involved in the Recycle Technology

Waste paper is contaminated with all kind of content. To give an overview on the same here is a list of waste contents Input waste paper 100% 425.000 t/y Total rejects 15% 63.750 t/y Coarse rejects 9% 38.500 t/y

The technology is partly operational in the United Kingdom (UK) and partly specially developed for this project. There is a waste management company in the UK (Premier Waste, Birmingham) that recovers only paper fibres from Coarse rejects.

Coarse Rejects are mostly plastics and paper fibres but also other recyclables.

These fibres are sold to a paper mill and the remaining products are shipped

Autour has developed a processing line for fully recycling Coarse Rejects from KipaşKağit.

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 181

as RDF (refuse derived fuel). The difference between the UK and Kipaş is the composition of the coarse rejects. The UK rejects contain a much higher paper fiber content almost >55%. The processing line is developed for a capacity of 110 tonnes per day (dm) Coarse Rejects. In cooperation with KipaşAutour also prepares the coarse rejects so they are optimal in size for processing. The first step is sorting to remove all metals. The next step is prewashing the input material so it is easier for the third step to remove all paper fibres. The remaining output is ready to transport to a mechanical dryer. In the mechanical dryer the water is removed and the dry output will be sorted on heavies and light material with a wind shifter. The heavies will be sorted at a handpicking line into HDPE, Wood and residue. The light output is sorted by Near Infrared Detection (NIR) into PET film and LDPE film. PET will be removed and transported to a baler to be sold as it is. The LDPE will be transported to the extruder where LDPE granulate will be produced. The LDPE contains a very low amount of PP which doesn’t have a negative effect on the quality of the granulate. Hence the end product that Autour will produce are the following products • Paper fibres 25.0 % • LDPE granulate 55.5 % • HDPE granulate 2.0 % • PET film 2.5 % • Ferro metal 1.5 % • Non Ferro metal 1.0 % • Wood 2.5 % • Residue 10.0 % (destiny to be determined, depending on composition)

The analysis of Risk involved in the waste management by Autour One of the major challenging questions while designing this process and making it happen is the risk involved when the used paper prices drop. Used paper and paper fibres are getting scarce and market prices are slowly going up. Because of the scarcity Kipaş needs all fibres which it can get. That is why Kipaş pays the maximum used paper price for the paper fibres plus a bonus of 10 euro per ton. 182

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation

Another challenge that Autour can pose in the coming times is the amount of coarse rejects go down as well. All statistics show a growing paper industry in Turkey. Mainly in packaging paper and paper board. This is the market Kipaş is specialized in and their plans are to establish a new paper mill within 3 years. In terms of the compositions of the rejects involved in the process, there is a risk of the plastic content drops to a lower level. When the contamination of used paper/cardboard drops to a lower plastic content then the total amount of Coarse Rejects drops down. That could have an effect on the capacity of the processing line. If that happens we have the opportunity to buy Coarse Rejects from KMK paper. KMK is another paper mill in Kahramanmaraş. KMK also produces paper from used paper and has also the same Coarse Rejects as Kipaş.

Imbibing the Rationale behind the Recycling Industrialized paper making has an effect on the environment both upstream (where raw materials are acquired and processed) and downstream (waste-disposal impacts). Energy consumption is reduced by recycling, although there is debate concerning the actual energy savings realized. Some calculations show that recycling one ton of newspaper saves about 4,000 kWh (14 GJ) of electricity, although this may be too high. This is enough electricity to power a 3-bedroom European house for an entire year, or enough energy to heat and air-condition the average North American home for almost six months. Paper production accounts for about 35% of felled trees, and represents 1.2% of the world’s total economic output. Recycling one ton of newsprint saves about 1 ton of wood while recycling 1 ton of printing or copier paper saves slightly more than 2 tons of wood. Hence the need of the hour is to imbibe these technologies to conserve energy and resources while making the environment ecological and healthy and the products reusable.

F

ertilizer, natural or artificial, is the substance containing the chemical elements that improve growth and productiveness of plants. Fertilizers enhance the natural fertility of the soil or replace the chemical elements taken from the soil by previous crops. Fertilizers enhance the growth of plants. This goal is met in two ways, the traditional one being additives that provide nutrients. The second mode by some fertilizers act is to enhance the effectiveness of the soil by modifying its water retention and aeration. The composition index of these fertilizer typically are made up of the following nutrients: Macro Nutrients : Nitrogen (N): leaf growth; Phosphorus (P): Development of roots, flowers, seeds, fruit;Potassium (K): Strong stem growth, movement of water in plants, promotion of flowering and fruiting

Secondary Macro Nutrients : calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and sulphur (S) Micro Nutrients : copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo), zinc (Zn), boron (B), and of occasional significance there are silicon (Si), cobalt (Co), and vanadium (V) plus rare mineral catalysts. With the increasing hazardous effects of the artificial fertilizers globally, there has been an increase in the use of organic fertilizers termed as compost in the local agricultural dialect. Compost is organic matter that has been decomposed and recycled as a fertilizer and soil amendment. Compost is a key ingredient in organic farming. At the simplest level, the process of composting simply requires making a heap of wetted organic matter known as green waste (leaves, food waste) and waiting for the materials to break down into humus after a period of weeks or months.

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 185

In a broader sense any organic fertilizer is the fertilizer derived from animal matter, human excreta or vegetable matter (e.g. compost, manure). Naturally occurring organic fertilizers include animal wastes from meat processing, peat, manure, slurry, and guano. In contrast to this, the majority of fertilizers used in commercial farming are extracted from minerals (e.g., phosphate rock) or produced industrially (e.g., ammonia).

There is a big opportunity for the greenhouse sector to obtain local organic waste, and put this into use with good businesses advantage. However, greenhouses have poor energy performance and a high carbon footprint. The waste problem, clean water shortages, the lack of fertile lands, the pollution that is part of agriculture, and global warming, etc. makes it necessary and more profitable to close material cycles locally.

Food 2 Waste 2 Food the new technology to convert waste into organic food

Food2Waste2Food supplies external installations which are integrated waste equipment with an integrated greenhouse that enables zero carbon footprints for food production.

Using organic waste as a valuable input for the closed loop of converting waste to fertilizer to food.

The Technology behind the F2W2F cycle

Greenhouse horticulture is the ideal sector to convert local organic waste into food. The difference with other sectors is that horticulture needs CO2 to stimulate plant growth, while other industries emit CO2.

The Food 2 Waste 2 Food technology uses organic waste as valuable input for a closed-loop process in which they produce crops. These integrated waste equipment with an integrated greenhouse that enables zero carbon footprints for food production.

Food2Waste2Food physically integrates: • Source separated household and commercial food waste: A pretreatment plant grinds, separates plastics and makes a slurry out of the food. • The digester: The substrate is digested to biogas and digestate. The biogas is burnt at correct temperature enabling flue-gas to be released in the greenhouse environment directly for fertilising atmosphere with CO2. • Digestate: is separated using a decanter centrifuge. The dry fibrous fraction is used to produce a mushroom compost. The spent mushroom compost is converted by vermicomposting to produce a potting substrate for plants. Mushrooms are grown under plants in the greenhouse. The liquid fraction of the digestate is cleaned and used for irrigation and fertilisation of plants in the greenhouse. • Greenhouse: An advanced energy efficient greenhouse that uses innovative forms of insulation and cooling, and in fact is energy producing.

These installations help them control the mass and energy flow and model the carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycles. Clean energy & water are extra benefits. This ecological activity reduces the negative environmental impact of organic waste treatment and food production in greenhouses considerably. They strive to a minimal input of nonlocal or non-renewable resources by substituting these with local waste. All the water in the process is reused; as the sealed greenhouse recovers and reuses this water. No artificial fertilisers are required. For instance, the phosphate fertiliser use goes down with 100%. Please note that they do not use any fossil fuels.

What are the benefits of using F2W2F Greenhouse technology? The deposition of bio-waste using a closed, all-season Innovative Greenhouse for the continuous consumption of digestate as a liquid fertiliser for producing organic food,

gives a much better business case then the traditional methods, like land-filling or burning. We create a maximum benefit for communities, by offering local waste handling, locally produced fresh food, energy and pure water.

Food2Waste2Food needs less input than usual processes. The goal is to attain a minimal input of non-local or non-renewable resources, and substitute these with local wastes that needs to be handled and with a sophisticated reuse within the process.

Food2Waste2Food combines waste installations and Innovative Greenhouses giving the following benefits

• Reuse of all the water in the process; the main ‘water losses’ is the water uptake by the plants. Thus we use 90% less water than a standard greenhouse. • Substitution of peat. • No artificial fertilisers. • No fossil fuels. • No use of pesticides at all.

• Leads to reduced expenditure on transport for the liquid digestate and the solid fraction of digesters. • Produces excess digestate (especially phosphate), biogas, heat, etc. that can be sold on the local market. The energy is classified as bio-energy. • Reduces the gate-fees from wastetreatment. • Contribute to urgent global challenges related to food, clean water and energy • Leads to a lower burden of the sewerage network, and thus lowers maintenance. Food2Waste2Food is very areaefficient and does not claim new agricultural areas. • Minimises the occupation of land by using wastelands, deserts and dry lands. • Increase yields, allows for a yearround growing season, and attracts out of season premium prices, leading to lower capital costs. • Eliminates the climate impact from conventional greenhouse crop production due to fossil fuel use and CO2 losses due to current ventilation (non-closed) practices. F2W2F lowers the costs for energy used. The energy use in a standard greenhouse sector is 30-50% of the business costs. The sector is in need to cut the energy costs by saving fossil fuel, using other means of energy, deliver electricity and heating to nearby communities and businesses. • Uses CO2 from burning biogas. A greenhouse needs a source of CO2, normally from burning fossil fuel. • Has very limited ventilation, thus saving CO2 (normally released by ventilation), leading to lower operational costs. 188

he world at your fingertips! How many times have we heard this phrase cross our mind on various advertisement and marketing strategies? Indeed it is true, the world is at our fingertips! And with every single day as the world evolve, so is the world of design evolving with bringing increasingly attractive and real life designs to our fingertips! Scrolling and typing and just looking at your devices has never been so amusing yet entertaining!! Everything around you in your real world has been brought to an easier and sophisticated version of self in the virtual world. The world is thriving at the brim of the UI and the UX designer- all focused on one mottothe Users!! In times of burgeoning and thriving design ideas and products, one looks forward to a powerhouse of design for all their design requirements!

The World of UX and UI

User interface design (UI) or user interface engineering is the design of user interfaces for machines and software, such as computers, home appliances, mobile devices, and other electronic devices, with the focus on maximizing usability and the user experience. The goal of user interface design is to make the user’s interaction as simple and efficient as possible, in terms of accomplishing user goals (usercentered design). Good user interface design facilitates finishing the task at hand without drawing unnecessary attention to itself. User experience design (UX, UXD, UED or XD) is the process of enhancing user satisfaction by improving the usability, accessibility, and pleasure provided in the interaction between the user and the product.

User experience design encompasses traditional human–computer interaction (HCI) design, and extends it by addressing all aspects of a product or service as perceived by users. User experience design includes elements of interaction design, information architecture, user research, and other disciplines, and is concerned with all facets of the overall experience delivered to users.

What makes a Design great? What makes a design, challenging yet unique? What makes it stand out and yet gel well with the users across the globe? What edge do the best designs bring in the experience that attract the attention, demand and awe of its users? So much so that you can get them hooked to your design for hours without them even realising?

• Goal-driven Design Though in theory it might be difficult to fathom the role of research in delivering a successful and state of the art design, there is an extensive use of research with very valuable insights delivered adding to the creativity in the design. The goal that is set basis of the need and the want of the design- and how to exactly satisfy and at the same time entice the users. • Usability Usability is the bare minimum for design. If your audience can’t use the product, they certainly won’t desire it. Right from the start to finish there is a requirement for a high level of detail in every design element. A consolidatedmulti-step & multi-program process is involved in creating a user friendly design. • Affordances & Signifiers The concept of affordances is that a function must speak for itself, and suggest its own use. Signifiers hint at the affordance. Signifiers also work as metaphors, because people also need to know why they September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 191

would interact with something, not just if it’s possible. • Learnability In an ideal world, a user remembers every function after a single use. Reality is much different. Familiarity and intuition must be designed into every interface. Successful interaction design boils down complexity by creating consistency and predictability. • Feedback & Response Time Feedback is the heart of interaction. Since every interaction is a conversation between your user and product, your product better be friendly, interesting, and helpful. he virtual reality is now the truth of the life, and with the increasing reach of audience on the virtual world and the lives of millions of people and everything that exists being recorded towards an unavoidable extinction, videos and images are now the appreciation of existence. The future of Video Content Creation is huge. One of the upcoming ennui for Video Content is the Video Content Analysis (VCA). Video content analysis (also Video content analytics, VCA) is the capability of automatically analyzing video to detect and determine temporal and spatial events. This technical capability is used in a wide range of domains including entertainment, health-care, retail, automotive, transport, home automation, flame and smoke detection, safety and security. The algorithms can be implemented as software on general purpose machines, or as hardware in specialized video processing units. Many different functionalities can be implemented in VCA. Video Motion Detection is one of the simpler forms where motion is detected with regard to a fixed background scene. More advanced functionalities include video tracking and egomotion estimation. Based on the internal representation that VCA generates in the machine, it is possible to build other functionalities, such as identification, behavior analysis or other forms of situation awareness. VCA relies on good input video, so it is often combined with video enhancement technologies such as video denoising, image stabilization, unsharp masking and super-resolution.

Just take it with you and be anywhere®! DropKey introduces its TV Studio In A Bag which is a very innovative and technologically advanced option to penetrate into the Mobile Content Capture Market. There is a ton of press about utilizing mobile devices (iPhones, iPads, Android Tablets, etc) for the collection of images. Take for example, the overused receipt “scanner app”. Snap a pick, and magically route the image. But really, just how useful is a picture without any descriptive data? Mobile Capture goes way beyond the image, and lends itself to all types of data and content collection. Below are some of the core data that can be utilized: GPS/Geo-tagging – location is the new Enterprise Data Information Layer, and having GPS coordinates tied to people, events and content can enhance reporting, and provide a looking glass into key operations. There is a great blog article here on Geo-data Collection with Mobile Devices. September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 197

typically required to support disparate devices, all with different camera qualities. Many of the document capture providers have developed image processing to counter many of the processing issues, but image quality is still very dependent on the individual snapping the image. Security Mobile devices have been a major issue for Enterprise Security, and the notion of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), has created many sleepless nights. How do you control content creation? How do you purge information from the device after it has been captured? These are a few questions that will need to be addressed in the near term future to facilitate full enterprise adoption.

Metadata – the addition of metadata to any content is a powerful dimension when it comes to analysis. Being able to add information about who took the picture, a description, a classification, etc., all add to its usefulness. Core Device Information – default information about the device can be quite useful, especially in crowdsourced data collection events.

Challenges with Mobile Capture

Configuration How can configurations be distributed cross-platform so any OS can be utilized to capture? Creating a central configuration store that can be “pushed” to all types of devices/ OS platforms will be necessary as users now expect cross-platform functionality. Cost Do a search in the App Store and you will find a ton of great capture tools that can help with the front-end image capture. But add the post processing workflow, reporting and integration and you now have a solution that is far out of reach for SMBs.

DropKey and Chroma Key

All the buzz in the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) space is mobile capture, and how I extend intelligent capture to the smart device. There are still many issues preventing mobile capture from being completely viable for the large percentage of document processes, and here they are:

DropKey® has Consumerized Chroma key on smart devices with the new DropKey app and portable DreamScreen TV Studio In A Bag®, developed by DropKey founder and engineer Rockwell Scharer with Richard Mall, the 2013 Academy Award-winning Key Grip for the blockbuster films Avatar and Iron Man.

Magic Leap’s Vision Story

You already own the world’s most amazing computer. You’re using it right now, to think with and blink with and maybe even smile with. It’s your one-of-a-kind mind. And with it, you can do incredible things. Magic things. Compare that to the technology in your life. You know, those rectangular

boxes that you spend the majority of your life staring into? The ones that demand your attention, and keep you distracted from the things that really matter: Friends! Family! Dragons! With those things in mind, Magic Leap decided to take a different path and rethink the relationship technology has with people. What they found was when you give the brain and the body what they want, suddenly the shackles are off, the rectangular boxes are tossed, and something magical happensexperiences like none you’ve ever seen. Whales jump out of gymnasium floors, solar systems can be held in the palm of your hand, and you can share your world in completely new ways.

The Technology involved in Magic Leap Magic Leap is a US start-up company that is working on a headmounted virtual retinal display which superimposes 3D computer-generated imagery over real world objects, by projecting a digital light field into the user’s eye. It is attempting to construct a lightfield chip using silicon photonics. A head-mounted display (or helmetmounted display, for aviation applications), both abbreviated HMD, is a display device, worn on the head or as part of a helmet, that has a small display optic in front of one (monocular HMD) or each eye (binocular HMD). There is also an optical head-mounted display (OHMD), which is a wearable display that can reflect projected images and allows a user to see through it.

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 203

HMDs differ in whether they can display only computer-generated imagery (CGI), or only live imagery from the physical world, or a combination. • Most HMDs display only a computer-generated image, sometimes referred to as a virtual image. • Some HMDs allow a CGI to be superimposed on a realworld view. This is sometimes referred to as augmented reality or mixed reality. • Combining real-world view with CGI can be done by projecting the CGI through a partially reflective mirror and viewing the real world directly. This method is often called optical see-through. • Combining real-world view with CGI can also be done electronically by accepting video from a camera and mixing it electronically with CGI. This method is often called video see-through. This technology makes use of the Virtual Retinal Display (VRD). A virtual retinal display (VRD), also known as a retinal scan display (RSD) or retinal projector (RP), is a display technology that draws a raster display (like a television) directly onto the retina of the eye. The user sees what appears to be a conventional display floating in space in front of them. The third technology making this virtual reality come to life is the Computer Generated Imagery. Computer-generated imagery (CGI) is the application of computer graphics to create or contribute to images in art, printed media, video games, films, television programs, shorts, commercials, videos, and simulators. 204

September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation

The visual scenes may be dynamic or static, and may be two-dimensional (2D), though the term “CGI” is most commonly used to refer to 3D computer graphics used for creating scenes or special effects in films and television. Additionally, the use of 2D CGI is often mistakenly referred to as “traditional animation”, most often in the case when dedicated animation software such as Adobe Flash or Toon Boom is not used or the CGI is hand drawn using a tablet and mouse. The Applications of these Technologies in bringing Life to the Varied Facets of World! Landscapes Not only do animated images form part of computer-generated imagery, natural looking landscapes (such as fractal landscapes) are also generated via computer algorithms. A simple way to generate fractal surfaces is to use an extension of the triangular mesh method, relying on the construction of some special case of a de Rham curve, e.g. midpoint displacement. Architecture Modern architects use services from computer graphic firms to create 3-dimensional models for both customers and builders. These computer generated models can be more accurate than traditional drawings. Architectural animation (which provides animated movies of buildings, rather than interactive images) can also be used to see the possible relationship a building will have in relation to the environment and its surrounding buildings. Anatomical Models Computer generated models used in skeletal animation are not always anatomically correct.

However, organizations such as the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute have developed anatomically correct computer-based models. These are used for both instructional and operational purposes. To date, a large body of artist produced medical images continue to be used by medical students.

is used for the interactive animated environments. Virtual World: A virtual world is a simulated environment, which allows user to interact with animated characters, or interact with other users through the use of animated characters known as avatars.

In modern medical applications, patient specific models are constructed in ‘computer assisted surgery’. Interactive Simulation and Visualization Interactive visualization is a general term that applies to the rendering of data that may vary dynamically and allowing a user to view the data from multiple perspectives. The applications areas may vary significantly, ranging from the visualization of the flow patterns in fluid dynamics to specific computer aided design applications. Computer Animation While computer generated images of landscapes may be static, the term computer animation only applies to dynamic images that resemble a movie. However, in general the term computer animation refers to dynamic images that do not allow user interaction, and the term virtual world September / October 2016 | FranTechnovation 205
