A Bachelor of Arts degree is offered in Political Science. A major and a minor are offered in Political Science. The mission of the Political Science Program is to prepare students to be active and engaged citizens who are exceptionally well qualified for the global competitive marketplace. We provide major and minor course offerings, internships, and other services to students to prepare them for careers in public/foreign affairs; law and government; education; and, more generally, the private, public and nonprofit sectors of the economy. We also provide learning experiences that prepare students for graduate & professional programs. Students that major or minor in the program will acquire the necessary skills to grow as independent thinkers, political analysts, and, most importantly, global citizens. In order to fulfill graduation requirements, students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00, a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in an academic major, and complete 120 credits. In addition, in order to complete minor or certificate programs, students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in those programs. Politics is an inescapable feature of human organization. The major and minor in Political Science are designed to allow students to explore both the theory and substance of the political phenomena that pervade contemporary society. The major also introduces students to the rigors of policy analysis, whether in the domestic or the international sphere. A major in Political Science also provides students with a background in basic research methodology as well as exposure to the philosophical roots of contemporary political systems. The major in Political Science provides students with the skills that will enable them to pursue a variety of careers including, but not limited to: government service, law, international business, non-profit organizations, education, and journalism, as well as higher degrees in political science. Honors in Political Science are granted to those whose grade point average at graduation is 3.25 for the thirty-seven credits required to complete the major. High Honors are accorded those who attain a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the thirty-seven credits required to complete the major and whose overall grade point average is 3.30 or higher.
