a révolution est en marche dans l’hôtellerie lyonnaise. En attendant la reconversion de l’Hôtel-Dieu, à l’horizon 2016, plusieurs établissements viennent d’être inaugurés. Et d’autres projets sortent de terre.

Lyon’s hotel scene is in the midst of a revolution. The central Hôtel-Dieu hospital will be converted by 2016, but several establishments have just opened. And others are taking shape.

Pour concurrencer ses rivales européennes et renforcer sa dimension internationale, Lyon est passée à la vitesse supérieure en matière d’offre hôtelière. Une stratégie illustrée par l’ouverture du premier Golden Tulip rhônalpin sur le parc technologique de Saint-Priest. Les architectes ont rivalisé d’imagination pour ce 4 étoiles écolo de 133 chambres. Une pluie d’étoiles s’est aussi abattue, fin 2011, sur le quartier de la Part-Dieu. Le groupe Accor a frappé fort avec l’inauguration d’un bâtiment high-tech de 80 m de long, face au terminus du Rhônexpress. Le principe ? Réunir sous un même toit un Etap Hôtel (2 étoiles), un All Seasons (3 étoiles) et un Mercure (4 étoiles).
To compete with its European rivals and enhance its international stature, Lyon is upgrading its offering of hotels. A strategy illustrated by the opening of the first Golden Tulip in the Rhône-Alpes region – located in the Saint-Priest technology park, close to the Eurexpo exhibition venue and Lyon-Bron business airport. Optimised insulation, wood-fired boiler, LED lighting with automatic switch-off – the architects worked hard on the eco-friendly credentials of this 133-room, four-star hotel. In late 2011, a new constellation of stars began to twinkle in the Part-Dieu business district. French group Accor caught the eye by inaugurating an 80m-long, high-tech building opposite the Rhônexpress airportshuttle terminus. The idea? Bring together a two-star Etap Hôtel, a three-star All Seasons and a four-star Mercure under one roof.

D’autres complexes hôteliers sont en cours de réalisation ou sur le point d’être inaugurés. Le groupe Métropole va ainsi renforcer son offre avec 2 nouveaux établissements. Dans le quartier de Vaise, l’hôtel Lyon Ouest (3 étoiles) disposera de 100 chambres, d’une salle de sport et d’un Mix-City, concept de restaurant rapide. Sur l’autre rive de la Saône, le groupe construit une résidence hôtelière jouxtant l’hôtel Lyon-Métropole et son magnifique Spa Lyon Plage. Inauguration en octobre.

Autre projet « fleuve », un hôtel flottant baptisé Canabae sera mis à l’eau cet été sur le Rhône, quai Gailleton. Reliées par une passerelle, deux barges d’acier, de bois et de verre supporteront 14 chambres de 25 m2, à 160 € la nuit. Toujours plus fou, toujours plus fun… Le dernier rejeton de la famille Mama Shelter, chaîne d’hôtels low cost, va emménager derrière la gare Jean Macé avant la fin de l’année après avoir conquis la capitale avec ses prestations high-tech et son décor résolument contemporain signé Philippe Starck.
More new hotels are under construction or poised to open. The Métropole group is set to expand its offering with two new addresses. In the Vaise district, the three-star Lyon Ouest will have 100 rooms, a fitness centre and a Mix City (fast-food restaurant concept). Across the river Saône, the group is building a residential hotel next to its Lyon-Métropole hotel and its fantastic Lyon Plage Spa; it will open in October. Another riverside project is a floating hotel called Canabae, to be launched this summer on the Rhône, on central Quai Gailleton. Two barges made of steel, wood and glass, linked by a walkway, will contain fourteen 25m2 rooms priced at €160 a night. Even quirkier is the latest hotel in the lowcost Mama Shelter chain, which will open behind Jean Macé multimodal station late this year. The concept has already conquered Paris with its high-tech facilities and ultra-contemporary decor by Philippe Starck.
