Fine Arts Cartoon Drawing: Caricature and Lettering

Art Boot Camp: Acrylic Painting with Black and White

This introductory course focuses on basic characters and drawing funny. Cartoon techniques will be used to draw people, places and animals with practical exercises and assignments. Participants will learn how to turn doodling into caricatures and professional hand lettering that help to set the tone of a great cartoon. This class is designed for the beginner or intermediate cartoon artist ready to have fun and learn. All materials (sketch pad, graphite pencils and kneaded erasers) will be supplied, and students can take them home at the end of the session. Finished drawings can be shown at the Spring Break Art Show taking place at Prisco Community Center at 6 p.m. on March 28. (KD)

Participants can learn acrylic painting techniques working with black and white. A professional artist will teach about the power and dynamic of contrasts, working with light and shadow. The class will study composition, perspective and effective use of shapes and lines to energize and give strength and structure to a painting. This intensive four-day boot camp is for the serious student, beginner to advanced. A final painting can be taken home after the final class and displayed at the Spring Break Art Show, taking place at Prisco Community Center at 6 p.m. on March 28. Supplies are included. (KD)

Drawing: Beginning to Intermediate This course focuses on three essential components of visual art—form, size, and placement—while working with pencil and paper. Using a step-by-step method, budding artists will work toward learning how to draw successfully. Art subjects may include still-life, animals, landscape and copying of the great masters. Independent and home assignments allow participants to work at their own pace, and beginners to intermediate artists are welcome to join in the fun. Spring Break Art Show: “Let Your Imagination Soar” Finished drawings and paintings from the classes listed on this page can be shown at the Spring Break Art Show. Maximum size of artwork is 18 by 18 inches. Artwork labeled with name, age, school and phone number can be brought to Prisco Community Center starting Monday, March 25. No entries will be accepted later than Wednesday, March 27, at 5 p.m. There is no fee for artists to show art work. Tickets to the Art Show are available beginning March 5 at Prisco. (KD) Age

Art Boot Camp: Charcoal Drawing This class offers the opportunity to explore the unique experience of working with charcoal. A professional artist will work closely with participants while teaching this bold, daring and dramatic art form. Using a chunk of charcoal and eraser, shading, blending and highlighting to create gray gradients and lighting techniques will be taught. This intensive fourday boot camp is for the serious student, beginner to advanced.
