FWFN Membership Office of the Chief-Peter Collins October 1, 2015 Marilee A. Nowgesic-CEO Announcement FWFN Chief and Council

I would like to take this opportunity to announce the appointment of Marilee A. Nowgesic, as the new Chief Executive Officer of Fort William First Nation. Originally from the Fort William First Nation, Marilee is the daughter of Deana D. Nowgesic (MacLaurin) and the late Frederick J. Nowgesic. A proud Ojibway and Eagle clan member, she received her teachings from Elders of her home community, and other neighbouring community Elder members. Her formal postsecondary education was obtained from Lakehead University and Carleton University. Additionally, she studied music with the Royal Conservatory of Music, and obtained achievements in Violin, Guitar and Music Theory. Ms. Nowgesic has worked with several clients in the federal, provincial, territorial and numerous nongovernment agencies to develop strategic development plans, social marketing campaigns, communication strategies, education programs and policy development guidelines which were targeted for Aboriginal communities across Canada. It was from these experiences that an overarching and recurring theme in the work with her various clients had presented itself. Her ultimate goal is to design a workshop/seminar series that develops and provides awareness and positive understanding of the traditional knowledge, cultural protocol and current issues of Canada’s Aboriginal people to the mainstream population. Additionally, she will create a similar series for the Aboriginal population with a specific focus on youth development which will provide them with the skills necessary for informed decisions and empowerment. Please join me and the rest of FWFN Council and Administration in welcoming Marilee to her new role. Respectfully,

Chief Peter Collins FWFN
