Nokiiwin Tribal Council requires one (1) experienced, knowledgeable, and motivated Health and Safety Project Facilitator. Working in a team centered environment, and reporting to the Executive Director, the Health and Safety Project Facilitator will work with the Project Coordinator and Steering Committee to develop health and safety concepts and practices for Nokiiwin member First Nation communities. To accomplish this goal, the Health and Safety Project Facilitator will research best practices, consult extensively with community members and leadership. The aim of this this initiative is to enhance the health and safety reach to vulnerable workers, families and communities, shift attitudes and behaviour, create a First Nation centric health and safety culture and facilitate knowledge transfer in a way that resonates with First Nation communities. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with business writing and communications Possess a post-secondary degree or diploma Occupational Health and Safety or in a relevant discipline i.e. Human Resources or Business with understanding of occupational health and safety Experience working with Nokiiwin First Nations communities and organizations Knowledge of health and safety legislation compliance requirements from both Federal and Provincial legislation Knowledge of health and safety realities from a First Nation community and organizational context Experience conducting informal research and presenting findings Strong communication, time management, and problem solving skills Strong documentation capacity with the ability to meet stringent deadlines Experience with facilitation Experience writing proposals and grant applications is an asset Must be computer literate including MS Office and internet use Fluency in Anishinaabe, knowledge and appreciation of Anishinaabe culture and heritage are assets Valid driver’s license and current satisfactory criminal reference check is required Ability to travel to and work in Nokiiwin communities

Develop written materials to support the project and communication of information Develop a health and safety toolkit that reflects the medicine wheel teachings’ components including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual elements that address the most common hazards that result in occupational injuries, illness or disease. Promotion of health and safety culture in alignment with First Nations cultural values through knowledge transfer and networking initiatives.

Main Duties: Conduct Research     

Research the current state of First Nation Health and Safety culture Research best practices for First Nation Health and Safety Programs Research could include internet and print sources as well as interviews with knowledgeable people as appropriate Present the results of this research in a form that is easily understood and useful for stakeholders Prepare template Health and Safety policies for First Nations

Consult Communities      

Develop a Communication Strategy for the initiative for the duration of the project Work with a Steering Committee representative of Nokiiwin member First Nations and community based focus groups Conduct meetings in each community in order to determine community needs and gaps Schedule, plan, and promote these meetings as appropriate Present results of consultation to community leadership and other stakeholders Organize and coordinate a two day Health and Safety Conference in consultation with Steering Committee

Cultivate Partnerships  

Develop and solidify partnerships with subject matter experts that will play key roles in the project Explore opportunities to partner with other Health and Safety Associations, and other non-profit organizations, that can build synergy to support the initiative and the communities moving forward

Develop Health & Safety Toolkit and Resources   

Write one or more Health and Safety Plans based on results from research and consultation Present these plans to community leadership for final approval and input Submit plans to government for funding as appropriate

Manage Budgets  

Manage expenditures according to proposal budget Process invoices and expenses according to Nokiiwin Finance policies and procedures

Accountabilities:  

The Health and Safety Policy Advisor will be accountable to the Board of Directors and Executive Director All Nokiiwin Tribal Council Human Resource Policies and Procedures apply.

Working Conditions:  

Ability to travel and work in Nokiiwin communities spread across a remote northern region of Ontario Must have valid Ontario Drivers licence and access to reliable transportation

Impact of Error: Errors in omission, analysis, judgement, and in the rendering of advice could lead to inequitable outcomes, and/or legal and/or financial ramifications Errors could lead to confusion in all communities; a breakdown of relationships between communities and/or with the tribal council; conflicts between Board members or between Board and staff; and unfavourable public relations Control: This position is subject to policy and direction from by-law or resolution, government legislation, and generally accepted financial policies, management practices, and professional conduct. Consultation/Liaison Officer One Year Contract

Position Description:

The Consultation/Liaison Officer will develop and maintain the duty to consult with Fort William First Nation (FWFN).

Major Responsibilities: • Act as the point of contact and liaise between funders, partners, and various other community and business organizations as well as the general public. • Provide coordination for all aspects of the planning, implementation, and evaluation of special projects and programs. • Participate and collaborate with other offices. • Build and maintain positive relationships and contact with federal, provincial, and municipal departments as well as personnel, public officials, public and separate school representatives, the general public and community and business leaders. • Prepare and present annual summary reports of activities and results. • Coordinate meetings, conferences and public speaking engagements in an effort to educate the community and raise awareness. • Work in coordination, via a series of meetings, with the Director of Economic Development, Economic Development Manager, and FWFN Chief and Council as a means of consultation with FWFN. • Prepare business letters, newsletters, band council resolutions, work plans, budgets, recommendations, applications and other related paperwork. • Other duties shall be assigned as required. JOB POSTING Position Title: Jury Roll Administrator-Ministry of the Attorney General – Temporary Employment (Immediately-November, 2015) Position Description: • Fort William First Nation is seeking an individual to participate in a short, temporary project, starting immediately and continuing intermittently in October. The successful candidate should have some administrative ability. • To collaborate with the Ministry of the Attorney General to help increase the number of members from the community on the 2016 Jury Roll. It is important that First Nations individuals be represented on the jury roll so they may serve as potential jury members and so other jury members can benefit from First Nations’ wisdom and experience. Major Responsibilities: • Deliver the jury questionnaire letters to individuals in the community who have been chosen to receive a questionnaire; • Review Band Electoral List and provide only names of on reserve individuals who are 18 and older, as well as mailing addresses. Wage Rate:

$15.38 per hour.

JOB POSTING Position Title: Position Description:

Native Inmate Liaison Worker (NILO) Casual / On-Call Under the general direction of the Director of Youth and Social Development, the Native Inmate Liaison Worker will assist inmates serving terms of imprisonment in their successful reintegration into the community by providing culturally relevant programs, services and activities aimed at promoting Aboriginal Healing and Wellness.

Major Responsibilities: • Plan, organize and facilitate Native Programs and activities on a regular basis, providing an itinerary of events as requested by the institution. • Interview all Native inmates upon admission to inform them of programs and services available. • Complete a NILO Programming Intake form on all offenders, record all client contact information on the NILO client contact sheet and submit monthly statistics on the NILO Statistics Form. • Attend and participate in meetings at the institution such as staff meetings, case conferences, program committee meetings, temporary absence committee meetings and other meetings as requested. • Act as a resource to the Parole Board if requested with respect to native programming, cultural and spiritual issues. • Assist native inmates with the development and verification of Temporary Absence plans for work, education or treatment etc. • Act as a liaison between Native clients and staff/community groups. Probation and Parole services, Elders, and Spiritual Teachers., Native community corrections workers and other service providers. • Assist corrections staff in developing an awareness of the Native Culture by providing training sessions to staff as per request by the institution. • Facilitate communication between Native inmates, their families, institutional staff and other agencies. • Assist with the development of discharge plans for Native inmates. • Prepare and submit regular reports and statistics pertaining to programs, activities and clients to the Superintendent or designate and agency Executive Director as required. • A full job description is available upon request.
