I hate that almost as much as I hate desktop computers which have all their places to plug in USB plugs in the back. I also hate children’s toys that come in weapons grade plastic which I’ve threatened to buy a chainsaw to use to open. This week I bought my grandsons tool boxes for Christmas (ssssh-h-h). Fort Bend Dines Out
Fort Bend Symphony musicians Tofik Khanmamedov, Heather NielsonCorbett and Katherine Leskin share some secrets with Santa Claus about the orchestra’s December 2 holiday concert. Put the holiday preparations aside to experience the magic of the season as the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra presents its popular holiday concert on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. at the Stafford Centre. Deck the Halls features seasonal favorites like Sleigh Ride and Frosty the Snowman, as well as classical selections from The Nutcracker and Fantasia on Greensleeves. Also featured are the remarkably talented junior and senior division winners of the Houston Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition who will perform piano concertos with accompaniment from FBSO. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will also be on hand to spread holiday cheer and pose for
box cutter in the tool boxes. City and school elections are not that far away......We received our first press release today from a candidate running for office. Steve Porter has announced he is running for Don Smithers city council seat. Don isn’t going to re-up. Steve is better known by some of us as the husband of long-time FBISD employee Nancy Porter, which is now head of community relations, the one we gripe at if anything goes wrong. Boy scouts, HOA members and water board members know Steve best as hisownself as he has served in various positions there through the years. So by serving on those boards and running around with Nancy all these years, he has a wonderful knowledge of the Sugar Land area. Personally, I’m just so glad to see community members sign up to run for office who don’t have a personal agenda. It’s a thankless task and we are lucky that people like Steve Porter step up. B.K. Carter is the owner/ publisher of the Fort Bend/ Southwest Star. She can be reached at beverly@fortbendstar.com.
