Saving hundreds on car insurance is.

When Sugar Land residents turned on the faucet Monday, they likely did not notice anything different. But the water pouring out of the spigot was a new blended mix of groundwater and surface water courtesy of a $69 million dollar surface water treatment plant that went online October 31. The new plant, near the intersection of Voss and Burney Road in the Gannoway Lake area is the largest capital improvement project ever completed by the City. The plant was built to meet the Fort Bend Subsidence District's state mandate that 30 percent of the City's water supply must come from a nongroundwater source by 2016. The requirement is intended to reduce subsidence--or land sinking-which contributes to flooding in the Houston area and is caused by pumping groundwater from aquifers. The surface water treatment plant will supply 9 million gallons per day with the capacity to expand to 22 million gallons per day in the future. The City has obtained water rights in Oyster Creek to supply the plant. Water from Oyster Creek is brought to storage ponds that can hold 27 million gallons-roughly a three day reserve. From there, the water is pumped into the plant where it undergoes a variety of high-tech treatment processes including low pressure membrane filtration which removes pathogens like cryptosporidium and giardia that live in lakes and rivers. "The membranes are thin enough for the water to pass through but too thick for the pathogens to follow," said Assistant Director of Water Utilities, Jessie Li. "Prior to the membrane process, the water clarity is already on par with drinkable groundwater". The treated surface water leaving the plant will be pumped to two existing groundwater

plants and mixed with treated groundwater before entering the citywide distribution system. When the water comes out of a Sugar Land faucet, it is 30% surface water and 70% ground

water and is, according to Li, comparable to the bottled water available in grocery stores. "The City of Sugar Land

The Houston-Galveston Area Council is a region-wide voluntary association of local governments in the 13-county Gulf Coast planning region of Texas. At the November 12 Stafford Planning & Zoning meeting, the H-GAC presented their access management study for the FM 1092/Murphy Road corridor.

This 3.1 miles extends from Highway 59 to Dove Country Road and took nine months to complete, addressing three key issues of: mobility, safety, and economic development. $7,500 MORE. That is $10,000 more than what he promised for health insurance premium costs. During his 2008 campaign he promised to cut the deficit in half in his first term, or he would deserve a second term. The only reduction in the deficit is attributable to the so-called sequester that Democrats are still squawking about. Remember when the extremist president said he would not have lobbyist serve in the White House. What an absolute joke. Obama has hired some of the most entrenched K Street lobbyists including those that have made millions lobbying for Fannie Mae and General Motors that have both received taxpayer funded bailouts. Two more unfulfilled promises... He would close Gitmo detention facilities and make all the Muslim countries love us. Gitmo is still open and all the Muslim countries still hate us. Then there is the big whopper, “If you like your health insurance policy, you can keep it.” Wow! He was lying through his teeth. He was even warned by his own team that the Democrat’s new healthcare law would outlaw almost every individual policy. Every healthcare policy is renewed annually. So, when these 25 million policies come up for annual renewal, the insurance company has no other option than to inform the policyholder that their previous policy did not adhere to the Democrat’s healthcare law. The president knew that

this would be the outcome. Even though the Democrat healthcare law is the “law of the land”, the president delayed the other shoe from falling when he arbitrarily said the employer mandate portion of the law is delayed one year. There are approximately 100 million policies that are largely paid for by employers and maybe all 100 million of these policies will not conform to the Democrat’s law. These employer policies will not start to be cancelled till October 2014 or later, just before the November general election. Perhaps this will be too late to affect the outcome of the election. This socialized medicine bill known as Obamacare was supposed to provide health insurance to 30 million uninsured. They ALL received healthcare when they showed up at an emergency room and none of them filed for bankruptcy. The Kool-Aid drinkers said these costs were just past on to taxpayer by hospital districts or hospitals shifting costs to those with health insurance. Now these uninsured get health insurance that is some or completely subsidized by us, the taxpayers. The only people filing bankruptcy will be the middle class taxpayers.. Talking about Tourette Syndrome

Tourette syndrome is a condition of the nervous system that causes uncontrolled movements (tics) or sounds from the body. Affected people may jerk the head, blink the eyes, or inadvertently say offensive words. This typically shows up during childhood and tends to affect boys more often than girls. It is suspected that a person may get Tourette syndrome if a family member had it. It can be caused by abnormalities in the chemical messengers in the brain. Many people who are affected with Tourette syndrome may have additional disorders such as obsessivecompulsive disorder (OCD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disability, anxiety, and depression. Medical management of Tourette syndrome is intended to help alleviate symptoms. There is no cure for the disorder. Haloperidol (Haldol) be prescribed to help make less brain chemicals that may cause excessive tics. Stimulants such as methylphenidate (Concerta, Ritalin) and dextroamphetamine (Adderall XR) may be taken to improve concentration. For some people, periodic botulinum toxin type A(Botox) injections may help relieve certain tics. For people who experience violent episodes, central adrenergic inhibitors such as clonidine (Catapres) or guanfacine (Tenex) may have a calming effect.

FOOT FACTS by Dr. Eric Tepper BOARD CERTIFIED PODIATRIST, ACCPPS NO, NOT THERE

If you are intent on getting a tattoo, consider a location other than your foot. The lack of muscle on the foot, and particularly on the top, makes foot tattooing extremely painful. There is a tendency for foot tattoos to spread, resulting in a blurred image, so larger and more detailed designs are not recommended. Many tattooists decline to work on that area of the body for that reason alone. Finally, healing time is extensive. There is a much greater risk of infection since it is so difficult to keep the area clean and sterile. If you need to wear closed shoes for your occupation or because of the weather, an unhealed foot tattoo could present a serious problem. If you do want a tattoo on your foot, we recommend you first have your foot checked by a podiatrist. Our feet are complex structures with 28 bones, dozens of muscles, ligaments, nerves and blood vessels and you need to be extremely careful when deciding to have a tattoo on your foot. Foot tattoos may be a fun way to jazz up your feet, but it’s important to be careful about where on the foot you place the tattoo. We’re located at 3143 Hwy. 6 South, where we offer comprehensive foot care. Please call 281-980-3668 today to schedule an appointment. Don't take your feet for granted - call us for an appointment. Make your next step a comfortable one - call us for an appointment. HINT: If you get a foot tattoo and you experience any swelling, see your podiatrist immediately.

Santa’s sleigh is on its way Santa’s Exchange is a joint community service project of The Exchange Club of Sugar Land, Sugar Land Rotary, The Exchange Club of Fort Bend and Toys for Tots. This year 5,000 children will receive Christmas gifts through the efforts of Community Service Clubs, businesses, churches and schools that collect gifts for the children. Parents in need are sent an invitation to visit Santa’s Exchange and “shop” for three new toys for each child.

The kids have a chance to sit on Santa’s lap and “elves” entertain them with crafts and games. Traditionally over 1,000 volunteers from local community service clubs, high schools and churches assist on the day of the project. If you would like to help by putting a toy collection box at your place of business/ church or make a donation, please email santa@ecsl.org.
