ALDI to build distribution center in Rosenberg QV PROUD HOTLINE By Betsy Dolan

ALDI, the nation's leading low-price grocer, has announced plans to build a 650,000 foot distribution center on US 90A west of Highway 36 in Rosenberg. The facility will initially employ 72 people with plans to more than double that as the company continues to expand into the Houston market. There are currently 12 ALDI stores in the Houston area including Sugar Land and Missouri City. In addition to the distribution center, ALDI has announced plans to build a store on Reading Road between FM 2218 and Interstate 69, opening in the spring of 2014. The City of Rosenberg

approved a 70 percent tax abatement on the building and equipment for 10 years. In addition, the Rosenberg Development Council agreed to reimburse $500,000 on infrastructure and development costs. Matt Fielder, Rosenberg's Economic Development Director said the ALDI facility will not only have a positive impact on Rosenberg but Fort Bend County and Lamar CISD as well. "Right now the land generates about $147 a year in property taxes. We estimate that the ALDI facility will generate $1.6 million in property taxes over 10 years and that is with the abatement in place," Fielder said. "It's a win-win for the school district because

they will benefit from the property taxes with no added children in the schools." The company considered 30 sites before selecting Rosenberg. Fielder said what attracted ALDI to Rosenberg was it's access to Highway 59/Interstate 69 and Interstate 10 as well as its west Houston location. The company has plans to expand into the San Antonio market. The facility is expected to

involve a capital expenditure investment of more than $60 million to the local economy. The facility is anticipated to be valued at $44 million, with an additional $20 million in taxable inventory. Construction on the facility is anticipated to begin in early 2014, with completion in October 2015. The distribution center and divisional headquarters will officially open for business in early 2016.
