TAYLOR

George Byron Taylor, 82 (affectionately known as Pappy), beloved husband, father and friend who spread joy and love in all of those who were blessed to know him, was called to his eternal home to claim his throne in Heaven on July 23, 2014. He was preceded in death by his father, William Ed Taylor and Mother, Minnie Wood Taylor, Brother, Ernie Taylor and Helen Walters. He leaves behind his precious, devoted wife of 33 years, Juanice Taylor and 6 children Dian and husband James, George Jr. and wife Sherri, Curtis and wife Glinda, Cheri and husband Kerry, Paula and husband Rick, and Ken and companion Kathy. George also leaves behind his baby sister Corene and her husband, Bill. Additionally, he leaves 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, who will all miss his shenanigans and unconditional love. George proudly served with the United States Marines and served in the Korean War. He

was a devoted husband and father, who never doubted the presence of the Lord in his life. But Pappy, in his loving and selfless spirit is saying: “As you hold me close in memory, even though we are apart, my spirit will live on, close within your heart. I am always with you! When you lean on trusted friends and their caring arms enfold you with their loving arms, I’ll be there to hold you… I am always with you! And beyond the far horizon, when we’ll finally be together, where love will be eternal and life will be forever, I am always with you! Until we meet again, George, Pappy, you are in our hearts, ALWAYS!

children who were enjoying a week at Champions Kids Camp in Alvin, Texas. Champions Kids Camp was the brainchild of Nashville singer songwriter, Bill Nash, who started the camp 13 years ago after his own son survived leukemia. The camp is dedicated to the nurturing children who have survived a traumatic injury, illness, or personal loss, such as the loss of a parent or sibling. The goal is to instill a sense of pride and help each child know that they are not a victim

volunteer to serve meals, become dorm moms and dads and donate funds to ensure that every camper has a great time at camp. The Exchange Club of Fort Bend is a group of men and women who promote programs to "give back" to our local community, and recognize people who strive to make our community a better place to live and work. Sugar Land solid waste, recycling program bags state award The Texas Public Works Association (TPWA) selected the City of Sugar Land to receive a Sustainability Practices Award for achievements in solid waste and recycling. The award recognizes individuals, teams or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to promote sustainability in public works. Sugar Land was recognized for an ongoing public education campaign to make residents aware of solid waste and recycling services intended to reduce waste sent to landfills. Sugar Land's enhanced solid waste and recycling program was implemented several years ago with the goal to increase services and reduce the amount of solid waste sent to landfills. At that time, just 10 percent of waste was being diverted from landfills. The enhanced solid waste and recycling program now includes automated collections of garbage and recycling, a bulky waste

program and increased recycling services such as a green waste recycling program. The city designed an education and marketing campaign to ensure residents are aware of the program. The campaign included both traditional and modern advertising including videos, education events, news releases, mailers, etc. The City of Sugar Land has also made use of social media and developed an informative smart phone app to better educate residents. Through the education campaign and a partnership with Republic Services, the city was able to provide the enhanced services at a savings to taxpayers of $800,000 annually and diverted more than 36 percent

of solid waste from landfills in 2013. To learn more about Sugar

Land's solid waste and recycling services, visit www.sugarlandtx. gov/solidwaste.
