My, my, my…After last week, we are buried in information requests and loading up to hunt bear with a switch when it comes to the Central Appraisal District. HOA’s, CAD’s, why is it and the alphabet soups of government operations are so impossible to deal with? On that note, it appears there just might be a thawing in the ice clad management over at FCCA. The jury is still out…

really mean what they say. Oh, and speaking of honesty and all…What the heck is going on over at Mo City? Four Officers out the door last week for falsifying police reports? And you let them resign so they can ply that trade again? Say it ain’t so! Hopefully our information is bad, because if it is not…scary! And finally, $15,000 in fees for an Open Records Request? You have got to be kidding!!! Heck, $1,500 is just as unacceptable! We, the stink’n taxpayers already own that information - you elected humps only get to house it for us…cough it up! Center. “You will find our community’s NCSD event filled with joy, camaraderie, hope, compassion, faith, and love as we honor cancer survivors for their strength and courage.” “National Cancer Survivors Day is a great opportunity for cancer survivors, caregivers, friends and family to come together and affirm the possibility of quality of life after a diagnosis of cancer,” added Clive Shkedy, M.D., radiation oncologist and medical director of Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital’s Cancer Center. A “survivor” is anyone living with a personal history of cancer, according to the National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation. Additionally, the foundation says that more people are surviving cancer than ever before, which can be attributed to advances in prevention, early detection, treatment and follow-up care.

Cancer, however, does come with many challenges, such as hindered access to cancer specialists and promising new treatments, inadequate or no insurance, financial hardships, employment problems and psychological struggles. “Despite these difficulties, cancer survivors can live active, productive lives,” says Shkedy. Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital’s Cancer Center welcomes all local cancer survivors and a guest to join them as they honor the survivors living with a history of cancer. The Cancer Survivors Day Celebration and Luncheon will be held Friday, June 6 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital’s Conference Center. RSVP Required. Q: A:

Can a repair facility save me from paying my deductible? An honest repair shop will always say “no” to saving deductibles. Your insurance policy is a contract between you and your insurance carrier. It basically says that if Chuck Charlton you have a collision loss, you are responsible for the first portion of repairs (your deductible) and the insurance company will pay the rest. If the final repair cost is less, you’re still responsible for the predetermined deductible amount. Any reduction should correctly go back to the insurance company. There are legitimate ways to reduce your cost. An appearance allowance (credit towards your deductible usually for minor cosmetic repairs not completed) is one way but must be consulted with your insurance company. Be wary of the repair shop that offers to save you your deductible. Are they completing all repairs or is your safety being jeopardized with an inadequate repair?

How is Miracle Method’s refinishing process different from other companies? The combination of diligent preparation, our proprietary MM-4 bonding agent, advanced coatPaul Barnett ings, and final detailing sets Miracle Method apart from all other refinishers. The original surface is completely cleaned and surface scratches and chips are filled and repaired. Next the surface is treated with MM-4, a unique proprietary bonding agent, that creates a molecular bond between the cleaned surface and the new coating. Finally, after curing, the surface is buffed to a high gloss giving it the look and feel of brand new. No other company uses all these steps and the one-of-a-kind MM-4 bonding agent. Others may claim to use materials similar to MM-4 …but they’re not as good, or proven for nearly 30 years! Refinishing is a proven, cost effective alternative to the messy removal and replacement of bathtubs, wall tile, vanity tops, and kitchen counters.

Who Should Take a Daily Aspirin?

Heart attacks and strokes are leading causes of death in the United States for both men and women. Preventable risk factors include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, and smoking. People can lower their risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke by treating their medical conditions, eating healthier, quitting smoking and being physically active. Some people can reduce their risk by taking a daily aspirin. Aspirin works to protect the heart by preventing blood clots. Clots can block blood flow in the heart and brain. Clots in the heart and brain can cause heart attacks and strokes, respectively. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends a daily aspirin to prevent heart attacks and stroke when the benefit outweighs the risk. However, aspirin is not safe for everyone. It can cause stomach irritation and bleeding. Low dose (81 mg) aspirin has the smallest risk of causing bleeding. It is the recommended dose for most people who should take aspirin daily. The USPSTF recommends aspirin for men age 45-79 to help reduce heart attack risk. They recommend aspirin for women age 55-79 to help reduce stroke risk. Aspirin is not recommended for men less than age 45 or women less than age 55. It is important to talk to your doctor before starting a daily aspirin.

My answering service is VERY expensive and VERY unreliable. I need to get emergency calls 24/7. Are there any options to an answering service? More and more frequently businesses are getting away from answering services for both of these reasons. The Panasonic Telephone System with Voice Mail has several options that can solve both expense and reliability. Lydia Ouellette The telephone/voice mail system can answer all of your calls when you are away. If it’s not an emergency, the caller can leave a message in someone’s mailbox for a return call the next business day. If the caller has an emergency, they will be directed to leave a message in a mailbox and the system can call you on your cell phone and tell you that you have an emergency message. You can listen to the message and make the call back through the system eliminating the recipient from seeing your cell phone number on their Caller ID. You also have the option of the caller pressing one digit and being connected directly to you if you like or you can also have the option of getting the voice mail message sent to your Email or Blackberry via a .wav file. If you just want to lower the traffic to your answering service, you can have the caller press one digit to be connected directly with the answering service if necessary. There are many other features offered by the Panasonic Telephone and Voice Mail Systems. ProStar Communications is an authorized Panasonic dealer that has been serving the Fort Bend area since 1992. Please call us at 281.265.3500 for a free consultation to discuss your needs for today and into the future.

Q: A:

I’ve heard that putting video on my website will improve my search engine rankings. Is this true and how do we start?

It is true. Google especially loves video. The first step in putting together any kind of video is to determine your target audience and decide what effect you want to create with that audience. Do you want them Elsa Maxey to call you for more information? Perhaps feel more comfortable about your product or service? Visit your booth at an upcoming trade show? Invest money in your business venture? Or maybe order products from your website. Once those things have been decided, we would then tailor a project that speaks directly to their interests and needs. This begins with a script. There’s an old show business saying: “If it ain’t on the page, it ain’t on the stage.” We would write a script that reflects what you want to say about your business, reaches your target audience and creates the effect you desire. After the script is approved, we would then determine a shooting schedule and budget for the project. After the production is complete, we would edit the footage, voice-over narration and add music and titles to create a custom-produced project that shows off your business to potential customers and clients. At Star Video Digital Productions, we can handle all aspects of production, from script writing through to post-production editing and compression for upload to your website.
