Could have been fisticuffs A new hotel in Missouri City that opened in December and held a chamber-led ribbon cutting last week has a couple of people talking about a tense moment involving two Missouri City council members. The Star reader invited to the event reports that he witnessed Mayor Pro- Tem Jerry Wyatt wagging his index finger

at council member Don Smith over what appeared to be an issue about the city’s impending bond package to go before voters this May. Two police officers working the event reportedly restrained the elected officials who had made physical contact with one another. One of them was heard to have said his foot was stomped on. The distasteful moment lasted for about 30 seconds at the festive event celebrated with some 200 guests welcoming the new hotel to the community. There’s a Missouri City council member retreat on the books and that may be where this contention could be hashed out, unless it has already been resolved.

On March 8, Missouri City will partner with AccessHealth for its second annual softball tournament at Community Park, 1700 Glenn Lakes Lane. AccessHealth is partnering with several Fort Bend municipalities, including the City of Missouri City, to involve more community members and raise more money and awareness to help them continue providing affordable health services to the community. In its second year, the Missouri City softball tournament is part of a larger day of games to benefit AccessHealth. The T.W. Davis Family YMCA will be hosting a volleyball tournament, while Richmond will also host its own softball tournament. “Over the past year we have made several changes with our organization, beginning with our name change and rebranding efforts, which we believe more effectively reflect our mission”, said Carol Edwards.
