Can you explain why hearing aids are better than they were in the past? There are basically two levels of hearing aid technology; analog and digital. ANALOG technology has been around for many decades. Analog hearing aids offer limited Terry Snook capabilities, but are sometimes used for AuD, FAAA specific purposes. Analog products are hard wired circuits and are not easily modified. DIGITAL technology is the most sophisticated hearing aid technology. This technology gives the audiologist maximum control over the sound quality and sound processing characteristics. As of 2005, the OVERALL CUSTOMER SATISFACTION ratings of new hearing aids, which are mostly digital aids, are 77 percent! There is qualitative and quantitative evidence that digital instruments perform better than analog hearing aids. Digitals are not perfect, but they work extremely well. However, not all digital hearing aids are the same! Within the “digital” world, there are better and lesser units...speak with your audiologist to be sure you’re getting the right one for you. I ALWAYS recommend digital hearing aids, unless there is a compelling reason to recommend a specific analog product.
You’re driving along and suddenly the “Check Engine Light” comes on. What does it mean and what should I do? Depending on the year, make, and model of your vehicle, there are literally hundreds of reasons a “Check Engine Light” may appear. Can the vehicle be driven? The general rule is: if the “Check Engine Light” is on, and the car seems David Alexander to be running ok, you can drive it, however Service Director if the engine light is on and it is flashing, you should get the vehicle checked immediately. If the light is on and not flashing, you should have it checked at your earliest convenience. The “Check Engine Light” is a warning light for multiple systems operating in your vehicle. Just like your computer pops up with an “error message” saying that something’s wrong, your check engine light turns on to warn you that it has detected a malfunction: mechanical, technical, software, or otherwise. Many people will try to reset the check engine light on their vehicles, this will actually only mask the problem. Most manufacturers advise against it. All this does is reboot your computer and it will go into a process called “relearn” losing all stored data for proper diagnosis of the problem. The best thing to do would be to call your service provider to schedule an appointment to run a diagnosis on your vehicle. That way you and your family are safe so you can “relax and enjoy the difference.”
