Follow us: Letter from the Editor, Every month it seems like I go through a different journey when creating an issue. This month I went through a journey of self-discovery, a journey of self acceptance, and being able to accept criticisms and channeling out positive results. Often in life we will encounter a person who will have such a power over us, a power that will make you rethink your own birth name. It takes strength to stand in concrete in your knowledge of self and walk in authority in your own shoes. One main thing I learned this month is that there will be many who you may think can do better, be better,or look better than you. But there still will in fact only be one you. This month I learned that love is best kept safe behind a wall, and time spent fighting for understanding is time wasted. Can’t say I could have made it this month without the guidance of my mom Rose & BFF Niki (lifecoach extraordinaire!). It’s my bday month (6/6) and it’s my new year, let’s see what 33 has in store for me! And can’t forget to thank my best friend for the greatest bday present ever! Love yall -Rachelle Ford

A King Formerly Known As

I was tasked to write a section about Prince in this month’s publication, which makes sense, this is after all an entertainment magazine why would we not cover the death of one of the biggest musical icons in the last 40 years? When I agreed, it didn’t seem nearly as daunting especially since I paid tribute to “The Purple One” on my blog Negusinflorida.com [oh yea I have a blog by the way shameless plug]; but as I sat down at my laptop and thought about what I would say, I was at a loss; in fact I was lost even. By the time I prepared myself to write, time had passed and it had settled in. I had watched a dozen or so tribute performances, some great ones like Adam Levine and his rendition of Purple Rain and D’angelo with a chilling and moving rendition of Sometimes it Rains in April; and there was some not so flattering tributes, whom I won’t mention (but I’m sure Bruce Springsteen meant well); followed by hit after glorious hits, some of which I had simply forgot about or just weren’t old enough to remember which brought on an extra layer

of euphoria and utter surrealness, and it became harder and harder to get my fingers to move. I guess in an ironic twist his impact Moved me to Stillness and all I could do was stare at my screen, not so much as a “writer’s block” but a burden, to sum up a man who could not quite be defined, not even by himself. To be frank, the man was by all accounts a GENIUS and not by today’s standards where that word gets thrown around more than the lead actress by her evil darkskin boyfriend in a Tyler Perry movie, but Prince was the artist STANDARD; he played AT LEAST 27 instruments and a brilliant composer and music arranger. At 19 he released his first studio album, in which he arranged and composed and played every instrument on the album after refusing his first record deal at 14, because they wouldn’t allow him to control his own music and produce his own album; did I mention he was still a teenager? That drive and determination almost defines him in his over 35 year career, from when he famously changed his name from PRINCE ROGER to an unpronounceable symbol, which at the time many didn’t understand and widely made the butt of jokes. I think the joke was on the music industry because the statement was bold and obvious as lamented by the word SLAVE written across his face in public and during interviews. The gesture was a protest of his record label who wanted to stifle his creativity and slow down his musical output. Fighting for ownership of his own art and for other artists as well by setting the precedent. So above being an absolute brilliant musician, he was an innovator and a trailblazer. In 2014, he recovered the rights to his musical catalogue; so in the end, he held on to the very thing he cherished the most and there lies

the Purple Lining. I purposely left out Purple Rain, not because I don’t love it (I could sing every word of every song in the movie) but because he was so much more than the sum of his music and as speculations swirl about the circumstances of his death, I choose to remember the 5 foot 2 inch Purple deity, who spoke in a regal deep voice, with the guitar presence of Hendrix, the vocals of an angel, and a thousand songs at the tip of his lips at all times, as the god he was, the icon Prince Rogers Nelson. May the elevator never bring you down and that if it EVER snows in April, it snows Purple……… or rain. Sincerely yours Ankh my heart and hope to die, A heart broken Fan Jus’ Black

What’s in your water?

Fluoride. That’s what’s in there. At least in most of the bottled waters we’re all drinking by the gallons everyday. Before fluoride was used to fight cavities, it was used in insecticides and rat poison. Fluoride itself is actually required by our bodies in low doses. But when man-made fluoride in high amounts such as what is found in public drinking water is consumed , it can cause problems. According to an article written by Healthy365days.com, excessive consumption of fluoride can lead to gastrointestinal discomfort. This can occur with doses 15 to 20 times lower than actual lethal doses (0.2-0.3mg/kg). Fluoride in excessive amounts can also cause problems in the formation of bones. List of brands that contain little to no fluoride:

List of brands to avoid that are known to be high in fluoride:

Fluoride disables the willpower section of the brain, impairing the left occipital lobe. Both fluoride and selenium (in additional amounts) can produce strange effects; one common symptom is that of “hearing voices”.

Fluoride is not the only foreign danger found in your water, Potassium Chloride is another. The chemical compound potassium chloride (KCl) is a metal halide salt, composed of potassium and chloride. It is odorless and has a white or colorless vitreous crystal appearance. The solid dissolves readily in water and its solutions have a salt-like taste. KCl is used in medicine, scientific applications, food processing, and used to cause cardiac arrest as the third drug in the “three drug cocktail” for executions by lethal injections.

so it took a little longer. But really,I mean, it’s a studio album with my mixtapes – I mean I put out a few a year, but I really try to put in full production and it’s mainly because I do all the beats, I do all the mixing, the mastering, and the recording myself.

Honest Abe What you’ve been up to as an artist? Right now I just dropped my mixtape “Dreaming With My Eyes Open”, I spent the past year and a half working on that. Now really I’m just trying to book up a lot of shows and pushing the music. Tell us the process and why that length of time? See my main thing is – I mean I put a lot of quality in my projects, but the main thing this past year, I just had a baby so I’m really just grinding out. I’ve been getting used to being a dad,

Oh wow, now what kinda vibe should we expect from the mixtape once we get to listen to it? Dreaming With My Eyes Open, it’s just like exactly like it says. A lot of people don’t understand, but what it is, is like I’m living out my dreams as I see it, you know? I mean, I’m seeing what I’ve dreamt of my whole life. I’m hitting the stages, I’m going to studios, meeting with dope artists and I mean it’s just I’m dreaming with my eyes open, but the vibe is really just a lot of influence of my older style music so I got some songs where I play guitar instead of using like an actual trap beat or anything like that. And there’s a lot more singing than the normal rap mixtape on it so, it’s just got good vibes to it. It’s a feel good album.

Interview Winner

Is this your first mixtape that you’ve dropped and how long you been doing music in general? This is my second official mixtape. I dropped In Linkins We Trust, I dropped that about two and a half, three years ago, and that was when I first started rapping, but I’ve been making music since I was about twelve and I’m twenty- four next month. Now tell us a little bit about your artist name, Honest Abe. I mean my name is Abraham, so that’s a given as far as that part but I mean with Honest Abe it was really just a –when I was younger my parents just kinda gave that to me just because my grandpa looked like Abraham Lincoln, so that was originally why they named me that, but honesty has taken me a really long way and I’ve never felt a reason to be fake or lie about anything so I really just stuck with honest. www.honestabelinkin.com

FRESH KID ICE 2LiveCrew:Behind the Music

What made you guys so open with your lyrics? When we were on the air force base, we used to chill in Mr Mixx’s room and listen to alot of records and do our production while we rapped. We used to listen to a lot of comedy albums like BlowFly, Redd Foxx, that type of stuff. We came down to Miami late 85 early 86, and there was a dance that was starting up, the dance was called “Throw the D”, by this time it was myself and Mr Mixx and we noticed that more and more people in Miami, were more so about the base so on the red eye back to the airforce base, on the plane, I wrote the record “Throw the Take us from the beginning, how did D” and “Guetto Base”. We recorded 2LiveCrew get started? the two songs in a small studio in RivThe group got started in 1984, by erside. It only costs us about $200 or myself (Christopher Wong Won), mr something to make the 2 singles. After Mixx(David Hobbs) and Amazing Vee I wrote the record, we presented it to (Yuri Vielot). We got started on an Luke. At that time we were still on a airforce base in Riverside California. distribution contract under Fresh Beat Our first single was release towards Records through Macola Records. But the end of 1984 early 85, the A side since I was getting out of the military, was called “The Revelation” which we created Luke Skywalker Records Amazing Vee rapped on, the B side for 2LiveCrew. We wanted to switch was called 2Live, which alot of people it up due to the fact that we were still called BeatBox, which I rapped on. The under contract in California. Which production was done by Mr Mixx and later on became a lawsuit. it was released on our own independent label called Fresh Beat Records Let’s talk about, real quick, there was and distributed by Macola Records in one of our albums, that they were Santa Monica, California. trying to make illegal to sell because of the lyrics, which was overturned. We were getting heat from different So how did you guys transition from areas. But this particular record, being that to hey, we’re just gonna get more popular, with the single “Me so nasty now. Based on our first singles, which Did the attempt at censorship diswere Revelation and 2Live, we did a few shows down there. The promoter courage you guys at all or put a dent at the time was Luther Campbell from in your creativity? the Guetto Style Djs.

No. Because we have the freedom of expression. And 2LiveCrew, by us having being in the military we knew what we were fighting for. We came together as a group and decided, if we don’t stand for something, we’re gonna fall for anything. So we didn’t want to change our concept or anything. We were fighters. Let’s talk about Luke Skywalker Records, which received a lawsuit from the Star Wars for the name. Did that affect you guys at all? Not really since it was just a change of name. What it did affect was our brand that we were starting to build with Luke Skywalker. Do you feel like the lawsuit was unwarranted? Yeah. Since it was 2 different entities. One being music, the other being film.

So now, you guys are platinum, all the way to the top. But there was a break of some sort. What happened? Alot of the breaks came from bad contracts and dealings between the group members. We had our issues between us, which every group has. We felt betrayed at that time by the person we trusted. And who was that? Luke. Because of not having transparency in the beginning. The wool was pulled over our eyes. By him bringing bad attorneys into our business, when normally, when we had a problem, we used to sit down as a group and discussed our problems amongst ourselves and decide what we wanted to do. And that was even before, when he was just our manager. He didnt become a member until 1988. How did he go from manager to member? Well we sat down and he felt as though his role in the group was starting to grow from a hype man to so and so, it was elevated some when we put him on a couple of records. And we created a path for him. Because of our shows, so we could have a rest in between our shows, we created a spot for him as a hype man. Let the hype man get his minutes, the DJ gets his minutes while the MCs took a break. It was a progression. Our progression was different from any other Hip Hop group. We voted him in to the group in 1988. If given the opportunity to go back and redo that moment, knowing what you know now, would you still have voted him in? We probably would have voted him in. We never had a contract between us and the label until the majors wanted to pick us in 1990. They wanted to pick us up but they wanted to see that the group was united under

June 2016

the label. But little did we know, if we had remained as a group, the deal would have came to the group and not to the label. So basically the label short stopped the group. So the money went to the label instead of the group. Was that the group’s downfall? That was one of the reasons why the group had alot of animosity in between itself. So you guys felt cheated? Yes we felt betrayed. The attorneys were telling us one thing “this is going to help the label, this is going to help the group”. We were getting some small royalty checks, a thousand here and there; it was decent to us. Compared to what the company got, which was millions. I know you wrote a book, was that something you felt like you had to do, to get your story out? I was always known as the quiet one in the group, the peacemaker, the one who held the group together. And I felt like, being that I’m getting older, I wanted to speak my peace, my way, from my point of view. In hopes that perhaps a younger artist might benefit from it. We were promised alot of things by different companies. But come to find out, there were hidden clauses. Back then, the contracts were basically slave contracts and artists nowadays are getting better contracts because of some of the things that has happened to the older artsits. My thing is, transparency. Putting everything on the table and looking at how we made our mistakes, and how we lost our music. And even when you go get your music back, now being able to enjoy the rewards of your work. Can you elaborate a bit more on losing your music?

We lost our music through a bankruptcy court. I know I was represented by an attorney but my attorney never contacted me to say “well they’re gonna close it on this date” and so forth, so me and the other acts on the label never were contacted; neither was the artists or the producers. There was no one there to protect us. How do you go from the top to bankruptcy court? I don’t know how the label went into bankruptcy court. I know he lost a couple of lawsuits but...then the people that put you into bankruptcy are your old lawyer who was the chief financial officer of your label, someone else who was one of your artists who won a judgement against you but certain things are coming out that people are telling you...and when you find out that your DJ, after all these years even lost the rights to even play your records...it’s like, what else did I lose? What else did I sign away? So I’m asking all these questions, but now you want to play hardball with me. You come at me, and I’m the one who... I didn’t start this, other people started this, I’m just reposting. And I’m in support of my DJ. This is actually a person I started with. Someone I knew since 1984. I knew him before Luke. I knew him before whatever label, and I will know him after the fact. We built a history together. Recently you posted online, “I now believe to really find out what happened, we have to go back to the backruptcy and how the company was lost and what rights were sold to Joseph Weinberger, who formelly was Luke Records Attorney” and you posted that “it sounds like a conspiracy”. Do you truly feel like it was conspiracy so that the rights to the music could be transferred to someone else?

Page 13

Yeah. I think so. Because he got it. He says he doesn’t have to pay royalties or publishing on the music. In one article he mentioned that he made over 3-9 million dollars a year off of royalties, and in merchandise. But he has not paid a cent in royalties since 1995/1996. What I posted was in response of something Luke posted about my DJ. There was an article in the Miami New Times. And other people were posting an article from 2010 from Lil’ Joe Records that Lil’ Joe did himself for the Miami New Times. And other people started chiming in and I was like, let me repost this so other people who know something might come out and speak, and ask questions. Why didn’t they know? They had a right to know. And I know you also posted that you were officially severing all ties to Lil’ Joe Records and the “Lil Joe version of 2LiveCrew”...what do you mean by his version of 2LiveCrew. His version is totally different from what the fans want. He doesn’t want for Mr Mixx to be a part of it, and so on... I can’t too much speak on it, because there are other things happening, but you know...but somebody got to be accountable somewhere. My mistakes I made with my attorney, I’ll accept my mistakes, because I feel like my attorney sold me down the line. Well, we’ve talked about alot of the negatives, what are some of the positives? What are some of the highlights of doing business with friends or family? You have to know to trust them and make sure they know the industry. This industry is one of the dirtiest in the world. Especially Florida. You have judges and lawyers and deals being made behind closed doors, that affect your career and your life and you don’t even know it. You have people who’s going to tell you that you owe

this person and this other person who sits on your music and refuse to put your music out and where as you wouldn’t owe this person if they just put your music out. Putting me in a position where I can’t have certain things. What are you doing from this point forward, knowing everything that you know about the industry? How do you protect yourself from this happening in the future? How do you fix that problem? Basically, I’m on the down side of my career, I wanted to do a great album with all the members, a great tour with all the members, and call it quits and concentrate on my label. Right now I’m concentrating on my label, my artists Fame and some of the other artists on the label. I’m doing a tour to take them out there, introduce them to the people, and so forth. Because I don’t want this happening to anyone else. I try to be a mentor and teach them to be better than me. Because it happened to me, I don’t want to see it happen to anyone else. We recorded 3 albums under a joint-venture deal, none came out. None of our music have come out since 2010 and beyond and we did 3 albums and they’re just sitting on it, that means someone doesn’t want to see us put our music out so it could sell so we could perhaps decrease our debts so now instead, our debts have increased. Who’s holding on to the music? (laughs) The same person...the label. When does it end? When do we finally get to hear the music? I don’t know. So it’s just a lifetime of...wow there’s no word for it. Exactly! That’s why I wrote a book, I needed to find some kind of closure.

June 2016

Page 14

Is that what you meant by slave contracts? Yeah. And we though when we signed the joint venture contract. We were promised so much. We were promised our music would be out. We were promised publicists, good street team, good radio, this and that. And nada. That’s not with Luke Records is it? No that’s through the company that got eveything through the bankruptcy.

“He says he doesn’t have to pay

royalties or publishing on the music. In one article he mentioned that he made over 3-9 million dollars a year off of royalties, and in merchandise. But he has not paid a cent in royalties since 1995/1996.

So pretty much you got burnt twice? Pretty much. That’s when he came and said it was going to be like this and this. And nothing. Other artists came and pulled me in, I was free, clear and gone. And somehow I got caught up in it once again.

You have your own label now, your own artists. You have the 80s Babies, 90s Kids party tour. Right. I don’t really use the name (2LiveCrew), because it gets into trademark and such. But I don’t really have to use the name, I’m my own brand. Speaking of which, what advise would you give a younger artist who’s new to the game? I would tell them to watch everyone around them, don’t trust anybody around them, and read read read read your contracts. And basically own as much of your music and materials as possible.

Color me Dreads

Who says dreadlocks have to be boring? Same as any other hair type, locks offer a variety of options when it comes to how you choose to rock your hair. A dash of color definitely does not take away from the naturalness of your locks and instead adds a dose of personality. The fun part about it is, if you’re not ready for a permanent solution, you can use yarn (as shown in the 4th picture) and interchange the color when you choose to change up your style without causing any possible color damage to your natural hair. Dreadlocks are easy to maintain, just a twist up here and there and you’re ready to go. The choice to go natural is a personal journey that is becoming more and more popular. Never feel as though that choice comes with any less options then some of the other styles.

SlutWalk 2016 is coming...

SlutWalks started in 2011 in response to a remark reportedly made by a police officer in regards to several sexual assaults that allegedly took place on the campus of Canada's York University. According to local media reports, the officer said: "Women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized."

Women in Toronto, outraged by the comment, took to the streets dressed in lingerie and skimpy clothing, to spread the message that women should not be subjected to sexual violence regardless of what they're wearing. This started a movement accross the globe. Amber Rose took to the streets of LA last year with her own SlutWalk, with a catchy visual aid that showcased her doing a walk of shame but being praised by every woman she meets, removing the stigma of shame from the walk all together. No matter the great idea behind SlutWalk, Amber got her share of criticism for it. Whether for or against the walk, you have to accept the impact it’s had on the dialogue

in regards to rape culture. Women can be who they want, wear what they want, do what they want, what a notion! Women have been fighting for the simplest of rights since the dawn of time and are still fighting. Although not too fond of the title of the walk itself I love the message behind it. And I applaud Amber Rose for not allowing anyone’s criticims to stop her movement. She has announced that she will be bringing back Slutwalk fall of 2016.

hood. While Fox 2000 is working to obtain the rights from the ladies who make up The Dare Divas, Rhimes and Beers are brainstorming ways to take the story to the big screen for all to see. Sheri Hunter formed The Dare Divas after her husband passed away unexpectedly. Instead of giving up she decided to use her grief as an inspiration to live life to the fullest. After recruiting three of her best girlfriends: Angenette, Brenda and Mia they decided to partake in activities that would make them appreciate life more such as serving in ministry, skydiving, racing, and more.

The series follows the Snoop Youth Football League (SYFL) as Snoop serves as the coach that inspires and motivates the 12-year-olds he works with. In the first episode, he even explains that rap was just a means to an end for him and coaching is his one true calling in life. Highlights in the documentary include Snoop helping a kid with bullying and self-esteem, helping others find a way off of the streets, police interactions, injuries and more. So many real issues are confronted through the lens of mentoring and athletics. Andrew Jones says he never received less than an A in high school, earning a cumulative 4.0 grade point average and the title of valedictorian of his graduating class. Despite his achievements, the Louisiana teen wasn’t allowed to walk the stage because he had a goatee. “Our school board has a policy that does not allow any facial hair on male students,” said Tangipahoa Parish school superintendent Mark Kolwe told ABC News.

“Queen Of Africa” Nigerian Doll Line Is Coming To America

Photo Credit: Huff Post A popular doll line in Nigeria is headed stateside. The “Queens of Africa” line was created by Nigerian entrepreneur Taofick Okoya in 2007. It depicts various African ethnicities and hairstyles. Okoya told Forbes that he did not intend to get into the doll-making business. He realized that his daughter was going through an “identity crisis” after there were no black dolls in the Nigerian market. “She wished she was white.” Okoya says that it hasn’t been that easy trying to sell a black doll in Nigeria and many store owners he presented to wanted white dolls. Seven years after he started the brand, the Queens of Africa line outsold Mattel in the country. Okoya is traveling to American cities this summer to meet clients to expand the brand in the states. The dolls are available for purchase online.

two counts of misconduct in office, and assault in connection with the death of Freddie Gray. Opting for a bench trial instead of a jury trial, Officer Nero pleaded not guilty along with the other five officers who were charged. During the bench trial prosecutors argued heavily that despite the new seat belt policy being implemented just days before, Nero endangered Gray by failing to seatbelt him in the police van. Nero’s defense team argued that the prosecutor had no way of proving that Nero had indeed read the email regarding this policy and that Officer Garrett Miller handcuffed Mr. Gray. The defense also argued that the only reason Officer Nero touched Gray was to help him sit up and to help him find his asthma inhaler.

The program is expected to launch later this year.

“Then, because of the way I spoke or carried myself, people started calling me gay and hard and I wasn’t gay, but I was hard and although I felt comfortable there, it made me uncomfortable that people where judging me and so slowly I hid that side of myself. I put on dresses and didn’t braind my whole head up, so people could see more of the “real” me, even though at that point I’m sure I was more confused than ever of what the real me was. And just the other day it hit me! Omg! Alicia!!! Why are you choosing to be that person? That is so old and outdated!! Stop!! In the news Instead of gong to the news articles or arrest records, we dediced to come straight to the source and ask what’s going on? Why have you been in the news lately? Well, at the end of the day, it’s called life. Trials, tribulations and understanding of life. That’s just what it was. Everybody’s gonna have their own perspective on it. They’re untitled to that, I’ll give them that. But at the end of the day, I’m successful. I did what I had to do for my family. I don’t regret shit I did . Matter of fact, what they think they got is not what they got. We can clear that up real quick. They put in the news “he got caught with 160 something names”, made it look like some tax scheme, or tax fraud. That’s not what it is. I do taxes, this is what I do for a living. I do it. I have clients. I do credit repairs so the information they found was clients information. They interviewed all 162 clients, they didnt put that on the news. They didn’t come back and tell you that those clients all said “no, he didn’t use my infomation”, thats was never put in the news. They didn’t tell the whole story of what happened. THey tried to destroy my name pretty bad. But think about it, if I had all those 160 something names and did all this bad stuff, and I’m only getting 4 years?

The Truth Behind The Headlines

What do you say to those people who want to take a piece of the story and sensationalize it? God bless them. That’s what I say to them. And the reason why, if you’re that miserable that you can take another man’s life story from a news strip and try to ruin his life over something you have no factual evidence about, God bless you. Because you need more help than he does. I’m not mad at nobody. Let them do they thing. Let them talk. I’m set, my family is set, my support system is set, I got a great support system around me, I’m good. You mentionned that what you allegedly got caught with doesn’t match the time given. Want to elaborate on that? They lied. When they went into my vehicle...Driving with license Suspended leads to a federal indictment? Yeah right. Thank you Art Gonzalez, thank you Newberry. They both got on the stand and lied. Same city of Fort Myers been at me since 2000. Same ones got on the stand and lied, same ones under investigation now. The thing is, when the news is negative, everyone one wants to share it, but truth is we’ve heard of you in more ways than just the negative, we’ve heard your name around some positive news as well. Christmas and

Back to School giveaways etc...Tell us about the good. My pastor always told me, everyone see you when you fall but no one sees when you get back up. People want for people to fail. That’s what’s wrong with the community now, they want for failure. They’ll see somone climb to the top, and they;ll sit and wait for that ballon to pop. Nobody wants to talk about all the money that came out of my pocet for the touy giveaways. Nobody said anything about the bookbag giveaways, nobody said nothing about feeding the homeless. I’ve sat down with Doug Baker (former Chief of Police) and agreed to pay for the officers out of my pocket. They made me go to community board meetings to get this done. I got all that done out of my pocket. But nobody talks about that stuff but are quick to jump on me and declare me the worst guy inthe world. Does that deter you? No. It makes me stronger because I know I’m doing something right. You have to take the good with the bad. One thing might come up to try to destroy your life but you have to get back up from it and keep moving and that’s what I do. Guerilla Zhone, aka George Joyner is currently serving 4 years at a federal facility.

Sex without Emotions is a myth Recently, I was an expert on an all male relationship panel called HEavesdrop and I have to say, it was quite an experience. As usual, it’s the regular back and forth of men want this and women want that banter that, quite frankly gets us no where without workable strategies but go figure. Prior to the show starting, I had a conversation with a young lady and a male that was on the panel about how men can have sex without emotions and women can too. It’s a popular notion and timeless debate topic that I’ve had so many times, I decided I needed to write about this! Here’s the thing both men and women when they have sex, are emotionally attached! You’re emotionally attached BEFORE the sex even happens. Want to challenge me? Well cool. Let’s run it! Emotions are neural impulses that moves an organism to action, prompting automatic reactive behavior that has been adapted through evolution as a survival mechanism to meet a survival need. SEX, my Sexual Intellectual is a survival need. Where things get twisted is for some reason when we’re talking about sex, we are under the assumption that the only emotions that can come up during sex is love and hate. In the common myth that women can’t have sex without emotions, what is really being said is women can’t have sex and leave it at sex and not want to

fall in love. I call bullshit. There are an array of emotions like INTEREST…don’t you BOTH have to be interested in order to even have sex? LIKE is another emotion… hell do you like what you see or something about that person you like, which is attracting you to want to see what between their legs is like? C’mon people, let’s be intelligent when we have these conversations. Even AGREEMENT is an emotion, if you’re not in agreement to have sex then its sexual abuse on one of the parties part which then leads to other emotions such as fear, shame, guilt. Do you see where I’m going with this? So with all of this said, Sexual Intellectual I challenge you to think beyond the bullshit that popular culture vomits on you and think for yourself. I don’t care if you weren’t interested in having an intimate, long-term relationship with whoever you’ve screwed. That’s none of my business. All I’m saying is keep it real. Both MEN and WOMEN have sex WITH emotions. PERIOD. Peace, Passion & Pleasure *drops mic*

Editorial monthly articles written by Ladychelle inspired by the Tru Wiz single Real One.

Only Get in Formation when the beat Drops children turn 16, they undergo a series of serum-induced psychological aptitude test that determines, based on their results, what part of the population they get to spend the rest of their lives with. They can either be Abnegation (the Selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave), or Erudite (the intellectual). The main character, Beatrice or “Tris” as she later changes her name to, happens to have a little bit of all of those qualities when she takes her tests and is deemed Divergent. That’s when things get interesting! No one was going to tell Tris what part of the population she was to belong in and she was determined to put an end to the whole system. Great movie, even greater lesson. Who am I? Where do I fit in? Better question is, who decides where I fit in? I do. And I decide there are no edges to my world, there are no rules, there are no lanes. I’m in charge! What have you set your mind to accomplish in life? My goal is to build a publishing empire from the ground up. I want to be able to tell the mailroom clerk how to effectively run his route because I’ve been there. I want to tell my layout editor what size margins and gutter width I want because I’ve done the job. I want to

I refuse to allow boundaries to shape my dreams, I refuse to allow barriers to block me from my blessings. Know your position. Play your role. Stay in your lane. A quarterback throws the ball, that’s his job. A running back runs the ball, the receiver catches the it. Everyone stays in position and it makes for a smooth operation. That’s fantastic. But this is life and not a game of football. And I refuse to be boxed in. “You know what your problem is? You refuse to play your role. Once you know your position there won’t be any problems.” Someone real close to me uttered those words the other day. If there was ever a good place to put a questioning face emoji it would be here. There’s an amazing film called Divergent, it’s actually a 3 part movie based of off 3 books, it takes place in a futuristic Chicago. When the

tell my outside sales reps what pitch best works when selling ads because I’ve gone door to door and I’ve heard the No’s. And I want to truly enjoy the fruits of my labor knowing I’ve planted every seed. Yes, some positions I will be the best at, some I was born to do. Others I will struggle at. But nonetheless, I’m not scared to do the work. Often times, people will try to box you in. Boundaries are often necessary in life but I refuse to allow boundaries to shape my dreams, I refuse to allow barriers to block me from my blessings. If I don’t know how to do something, my first instinct is to ask sister Google or brother Youtube who always come through for me. So what’s my point here? There are no lanes. Whether in business or in relationships for that matter. If you’re bae, I’m sexing you in the parking lot of Applebee’s like a one-night stand, I’m here to counsel you like a therapist, I’m here for the laughs like you’re the homie, I’m cooking for you like an iron chef, running your affairs like I’m your boss, and washing your feet like my name is Ming-Ming. Roles? What roles? Lines are non existent in my world until they are drawn by others. I want to get to the end of my life rope and holler I DID IT ALL! Life’s too grand to confine it to a box.
