La crisis ha marcado la temporada de conciertos del verano, en la que faltan grandes artistas de talla internacional, aunque algún veterano se asomará por nuestros lares, y ha obligado a reducir drásticamente el número de citas con la música, tanto en los grandes recintos como en las fiestas de los pueblos. No obstante, la oferta se mantiene variada y para todos los públicos. La bizarra apuesta de los promotores locales por el pop catalán se hace patente al contar con las actuaciones de los máximos exponentes de este estilo: Manel y Antònia Font. También habrá lugar para los adolescentes acérrimos a lo más comercial con Dani Martín, Andy Lucas o Maldita Nerea. Los grandes festivales de música clásica acogerán a músicos de estilos diversos como Noa, que, con su estilo folklórico, ofrecerá canciones napolitanas; Ara Malikian Ensemble o Div4s, que cantarán bandas sonoras de Nino Rota. El rock de Biffy Clyro o el rap de tintes electrónicos de Dizzee Rascal, ambos avalados por la revista gurú del indie, la New Musical Express, satisfacerán las necesidades de los inquietos por la música británica. Y grupos de estilos diferentes, pero con influencias anglosajonas, como son los madrileños Vetusta Morla y los recientemente reunidos Sexy Sadie, estarán en Inca.

Un legado de oro
M
e alegré cuando me dijeron que a mi amigo y paisano Pere Bonnín le iban a otorgar el escudo de oro de sa Pobla. Se trata de un honor bien merecido. Pere es de esos poblers que, alejados de su villa por cuestiones de trabajo, la han llevado siempre en el corazón y el alma. En realidad, y no escribo eso en demérito de nadie, los pueblos y las personas se aman mucho más desde la distancia. Quienes hemos tenido la suerte -o la desgracia, según como se mire- de poder desarrollar nuestras actividades cerca del terruño, hemos tenido que compaginar amores y enfados, alegrías y decepciones, broncas y reconocimientos. Como en los matrimonios felices, poco más o menos. ◗ Pero quería hablarles de Pere Bonnín y de su escudo de oro de la villa. Al parecer, el merecido galardón le llega a mi amigo como un legado de Alexandre Ballester, quien habría manifestado su deseo al alcalde, Biel Serra, poco antes de morir. Se trataría, pues, Un instante de la entrega de la medalla. de un deseo póstumo del pobler por excelencia -aunque cata- En realidad, mi lán de nacimiento- que amigo y paisano por eso mismo asumiría Pere Bonnín ha un carácter solemne, casi sagrado. En realidad mi amigo y paisano no es un mal judío: simplemente no es un judío religioso, lo mismo que seis o siete millones de sus hermanos esparcidos por todo el mundo. Quienes, siendo mallorquines, queremos ser fieles al legado de Moshé, nos vemos obligados a vivir una doble vida. El judaísmo es para nosotros como una amante secreta que nos obliga a incumplir citas obligadas. Hay quien busca excusas amables, pero no es mi caso. El viernes no pude estar junto a mi amigo Pere a quien le entregaron el escudo de oro a las puertas del shabat. Él lo sabía y me disculpará porque nos queremos mucho. Mi enhorabuena.

cumplir el jurado la paridad El fallo del Premio Nacional de Cine fue aplazado debido a que el jurado responsable otorgar el galardón no cumplía los criterios de paridad. Nueve hombres y tres mujeres fueron convocados ayer al mediodía para fallar el Premio Nacional de Cinematografía 2011, pero al entrar en la sala de deliberación, el presidente del jurado, Carlos Cuadros, anunció que había una irregularidad en el jurado al incumplirse los criterios de paridad. En una resolución, de mayo de 2011, el BOE indicaba que los vocales de este jurado serían designados por orden de la ministra de Cultura, Angeles Gónzalez-Sinde, a propuesta de Cuadros y que se velaría «por mantener la paridad entre hombres y mujeres».

La Companyia de Dansa del Teatre d’Alaró ya forma parte del pasado. Las desavenencias entre su director, Carlos Miró, y la concejalía de Cultura del Ayuntamiento han llegado a un punto que parece no tener solución. La principal consecuencia ha sido que el teatro se ha quedado sin compañía y Carlos Miró recuperará el nombre de Puntiapart Dansteatre, que ya utilizó en el pasado. ¿Qué ha provocado esta decisión? Aunque una subvención del Circuit d’Arts Escéniques de Mallorca (CAEM) ha sido el detonante, los desencuentros llegan a raíz de la designación de Llorenç Perelló como concejal de Cultura. «El alcalde ha designado a un niño de 18 años para este cargo porque la Cultura no les importa», dice Miró. En cuanto a la subvención (4.000 euros), las versiones son diferentes. Alcúdia proyecta hoy el documental ‘L’amour et son souvenir’, de Miquel Àngel Raió ELENA BALLESTERO
L’amour et son souvenir es el título del documental que dirige Miquel Àngel Raió y que repasa la vida en común del cineasta Rafel Bordoy (ganador en 1972 del certamen de cine amateur de Cannes) y de su esposa, la francesa Nicole Brunet. La cinta, producida por Singular Audiovisual, presenta la historia de estos
dos personajes que se conocieron durante un verano en la Isla. El documental se proyecta hoy, a las 21.00, en el Auditori d’Alcúdia. La entrada es gratuita. La cinta de Raió acerca al espectador a la Mallorca de los cincuenta y sesenta, al boom turístico y a la llegada de las primeras damas extranjeras que enamoradas de mallorquines se establecieron en el norte de la Isla.
La solidez de un grupo se mide no tan sólo por sus álbumes de estudio, que también, sino por su directo. Y el de Biffy Clyro se podrá apreciar hoy en el Mallorca Rocks. Antes de ellos actuarán Zane Lowe y Morning Parade. Todo a partir de las 19.00 horas.

Biffy Clyro Whip Growling Guitars with their Bare Hands… Up until 2007, Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro had a small but loyal cult following. Of course, they were making big ripples within their own musical circles, but in a commercial sense, they lived out their lives as noisy, nameless, longhaired anomalies. Indeed, their first three albums were mostly thrashy affairs; lashed with intense guitar riffs and punishing vocals - a heavy interpretation of the American alternative grunge/rock sound that was irrationally fashionable back in the early 1990's, when Nirvana were busy driving the mainstream scene. But, like I said a little earlier, in 2007, everything changed for Biffy Clyro - the band switched labels and released their fourth studio album, Puzzle, which was a more melodic, radio friendly outing compared to any of their previous long-players. Radio One championed the sound, and mainstream fame quickly followed - Kerrang! voted Puzzle the best album of 2007, and last year their 2010 effort, Only Revolutions, was nominated for a Mercury music prize. These days, Biffy Clyro are one the biggest rock groups in the world, and on Wednesday evening they landed in Ibiza to play the last set of the night in the busy courtyard of the Ibiza Rocks Hotel. Lead vocalist Simon Neil was the first of the band members to storm the stage, wearing a pair of pale pink trousers and a brace of blue sneakers, closely followed by lead bassist James Johnson, who was wearing a pair of pastel red action pants and crimson dyed skipping pumps. The moment the boys appeared, a volcano of lights and music erupted across the whitewashed Rocks arena. The jumping crowd screamed “Mon the Biff!” and waved fistfuls of Scottish flags and threw toilet rolls and fizzy beer up into the balmy Balearic air. And at one point, perhaps ten minutes into the gig, a section of the crowd broke out into a proper mosh - twenty fullsized males, all pushing and shoving and dancing around in a kind of testosterone fuelled communal tempest. It was a
moderately rough but genuinely friendly mosh, and a spectacle that would be wholly customary at most Biffy performances. But moshing is not allowed inside the Rocks Hotel, and the group of dancing jostlers were quickly isolated and then tamed by a muscled combine of hired heavies who had the word 'CONTROL' stencilled in pink lettering across the shoulder section of their black cotton polo-shirts. On stage, Biffy Clyro began their set with the carnival opener, “The Captain”, arguably the best track from their last album, Only Revolutions. In fact, nine of the sixteen tracks played were pulled from the Only Revolutions dossier. “57” was the only track taken from their debut album, Blackened Sky. Throughout the gig, as per their musical penchant, the Biffy boys were constantly switching the pitch of their sound - skipping from one melodic chorus to the next via long sessions of head banging rock music. The vocals, too, shifted rapidly from tender and warm in tone, to wild and painful screams, and yet, their performance never sounded anything other than profoundly succinct. Acoustically, the venue seemed to take pleasure in hosting a serious rock gig, and whoever was responsible for engineering the sound on Wednesday night should be palm stingingly applauded, because, sonically, the punch of the musical output was equally hearty and wholesome on each of the three seating levels - down in the courtyard, on the VIP ledge, and even up on the highest balconies. In recent weeks, some say, Ibiza Rocks hasn't stayed true to its name. There have been plenty of pop and hip hop acts on the Hotel roster, but not too many rock musicians of the calibre of Biffy Clyro have made it past the high entrance gates. And that's a matter which seems to have been bothering a few of the local folk I've been talking to recently… but I'm not sure its an issue that concerns the guys and gals who are making the Rocks Hotel bookings, after all, every gig this season has been a near sell-out and the visiting mob have always gone home happy, well-fed and watered. Nevertheless, on Wednesday night, all those lip pierced, nipple studded rock heads who'd been demanding a proper mosh certainly got what they'd been asking for - a suitably shirtless stage act driven by longhaired men wearing tattoos and thick stubble beards, who whip growling guitars with their bare hands and love to bash the guts out of earth shattering drum kits... and no matter what your musical taste, there's no denying that

An Interview with Kerri Chandler DC-10 resident Kerri Chandler has been one of the big success stories of the first half of the 2011 Ibiza summer dance season. He is, of course, one of house music's chief instigators, and has been producing thundering drumloops and emotive hooks since the early 1990's. These days, his rhythmic house music grooves are spearheading the new Circo Loco sound - less stripped back bleeps and more soulful beats. For these reasons, it seemed only right to talk to Kerri about music, Ibiza, and his life as one of the White Isles most popular DJs. Can you remember the first time you DJd in Ibiza and tell us a little about it? It was at Es Paradis about 16 years ago. I thought I was at some kind of adult Disney world. I was crazy as hell on the island. It was tons of fun! Where and when are you playing in Ibiza this year? The DC10/Circo Loco Crew are my family and it's my residency. I wouldn't change a thing. I love them. Can you explain to us what its like to hold sway over the DC-10 turntables? It's a feeling of pure pleasure and adrenalin like a natural high because of the people who come. It is also a place to share music with the most gifted and passionate DJs I have ever met. How would you describe the vibe and sound of your DJ sets? It's my music, at the next level. I feel very honoured to play everywhere with Circo Loco, and bring my music to the next generation of club attendees, new and old. There's such a wide variety of people who attend Circo Loco/DC10 that it's absolute quality all night long. I feel very privileged to share the stage with so many amazing DJ's. What kinds of music do you listen to when you want to relax? Jazz, 70's disco, downtempo house, old school. Is there a notable difference between American and European crowds, and do you have to alter the mood of your DJ sets accordingly? The fun part is that I never have to change my style. I just have fun with what I do and try to do it better every year. I have always played the music I feel. I love dance music of any kind as long as it's good. If I ever stop having the passion I have had since I was 13 years old for DJing, or can't play the music I love, then I will stop DJing. Emerging technologies are changing the way DJs go about their business. How has your vocation changed over the last five years, for good or ill, as a result of ever improving computer processing technology, portable gadgets, and the internet? I have had a computer with me since 1989, even if it was just a sequencer and a TR-909. I'm just happy the gear is more portable than what it was. But the most fun I have is DJing with my reel to reel tape machines.
