BROUGHT TO YOU BY GROWING THE INDUSTRY TOGETHER | FITEX.CO.NZ | 1

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO Welcome to FitEx 2018 - now in our 12th year! As always we will continue to focus on creating an event for everyone from the exercise community, whatever your role or size of business. One thing new for 2018 is that we will be theming FitEx - with our first theme being “growing the industry together”. So look out for a jam packed line up of seminaries, workshops and master classes to help grow your exercise business, and/or help get more kiwis active using exercise – whatever and wherever that takes place. Richard Beddie, CEO, ExerciseNZ

WHAT IS FITEX? WHAT TO EXPECT

Over a 100 sessions, held over three days, FitEx is the conference for the exercise industry in New Zealand. This event features the latest in science and business for every facet and role within the fitness industry – from facility owners, though to exercise professionals (Personal Trainers, Group Exercise Instructors). FitEx is the best and biggest opportunity in New Zealand to get truly world class education, on a whole range of topics relevant to our industry, jam packed into three days. Guaranteed to be educational, inspiring and above all leaving you pumped and full of new ideas to apply to your career. Sessions range from traditional lecture style seminars through to hands on practical ‘how to’ sessions and everything in between. The great thing about a conference is that you get amazing choice. At each time slot there are between 8-10 sessions so there is something for everyone. On top of this during the weekend you will be surrounded by like minded, passionate individuals working in your industry from all around New Zealand.

KEYNOTE EMPOWERING PEOPLE THROUGH INTEROCEPTION: RESTORING FULL SENSORY CAPACITY DONNA FARHI Time & Date: 8:15am, Saturday 24 November Did you know that “Simon Says” learning perpetuates disconnection from felt sensation? How do movement teachers and instructors educate students about the difference between positive intensified sensation and “bad pain” so they can differentiate between sound and unsound practices? Join Donna on an educational and empowering journey as you learn how to shift from being an audiovisual teacher to a kinesthetic facilitator. In the West we go about learning movement in the same way we approach academics–through the visual and auditory sense channels with the kinesthetic sense remaining undeveloped, ignored, and mistrusted. Whether you work one-onone, or whether you teach group classes, Donna will explore how you can create structures for learning that improve people’s ability to tap into their felt sensation and to use it as a potent navigational system. She’ll discuss why the myth of “no pain, no gain” has created an epidemic of both chronic and acute Yoga and fitness injuries, and how unraveling the unscientific basis of this myth can help people to appreciate pain as a messenger asking them to make new choices.

ABOUT DONNA: Donna Farhi is a Yoga teacher who has been practicing for 40 years and teaching since 1982. She is one of the most sought after guest teachers in the world, leading intensives and teacher training programs internationally. Her approach to Yoga is informed by the refinement of natural and universal movement principles that underlie safe and sustainable Yoga practice. Considered the “teacher of teachers” students return to Donna’s intensives year after year to be a part of the inspiring evolution of Donna’s own practice and teaching. Donna is the author of four contemporary classics, as well as a fifth and most recent book, co-authored with Leila Stuart. In April 2017, Donna broke her pelvis in two places as a result of a riding accident. Her exploration and discoveries during the many months of rehabilitation that followed have given her deep insights into the profound consciousness of the body and its ability to heal.

PRE CONFERENCE EVENTS

THURSDAY 22 NOVEMBER 2018

POWER PLATE VIBRATION CERTIFICATION Speaker: John (JP) Polley 9:00 – 5:00PM In order to integrate vibration training into every day programming, the Power Plate certification has been created to empower the trainer, coach or practitioner with the skills and knowledge to successfully integrate Power Plate technology into their day to day to day training to enhance movement preparation, performance and recovery with each and every client, whether in a fitness facility, elite sports, clinical or rehabilitation setting. Combining both theory and practical application, this education is inspired by the Principles, Strategies and Techniques of Applied Functional Science (AFS) powered by Gray Institute. Power Plate is the most authentic functional tool to replicate and enhance the body’s response to gravity and ground reaction forces. This certification explains the mechanisms by which WBV enhances the neuromusculoskeletal system; the method of nerve to muscle adaptation called reflexive stabilisation and includes plenty of opportunity to experience the fundamentals of functional movement and integration with whole body vibration. Those attending will leave with a whole new experience of their own bodies and how to create incredible change in human beings. JP can’t wait to demonstrate the power of whole body vibration for almost any client, being in his own words “able to deliver health to the human, not just a new way of moving more effectively”. CPD Points: 5 points

This is now understood as a vital tool for everyone from elite athletes through to those with severe restriction or mental health issues. Your presenter is John Polley (JP), says: “Play is so under-valued and misunderstood in our industry. It’s one of the few activities or forms of exercise that mimics the effects of many of the things in life that bring us joy. That alone should be enough reason to use it. But then realise it works the body in all 3 dimensions, the way it was authentically designed to move,

SUNDAY SESSIONS EXERCISE AS MEDICINE Disordered Brains and Exercise: Welcoming People with Motor-Disorders into Fitness - Part 1 and 2 9:00 – 11:20AM SESSION DESCRIPTION: It used to be that when people were diagnosed with chronic neurological conditions they were treated as ‘invalids’ -- told to be careful, to avoid fatigue or anything with an inherent risk of falling, to rest, to prepare for the worsening of their conditions, and to consider a wheelchair, and then were shown the door.
