Waleed Muhanna When Professor J. Richard Dietrich stepped down as the accounting and MIS department chair last January, longtime accounting and MIS professor Waleed Muhanna accepted the opportunity to serve as chair. In this role, he plans to help take the department to the next level through renewed emphasis on recruiting and retaining leading faculty, expanding intellectual vibrancy and research productivity, strengthening collective commitment to diversity, and creating innovative partnerships. Waleed first joined Ohio State as an assistant professor in 1988 after earning his master’s degree in computer science and his PhD in management information systems from the University of Wisconsin. He served on the Ohio State Graduate School presidential fellowship committee and was an elected faculty representative of the University Council on Research and Graduate Studies. From a very young age, Waleed developed a fascination with computers and computing. He found his passion in information systems, where research and practice are at the intersection of people, organizations, and information technology. His current research centers on evaluating information technology strategy, assessing the business value of information technology, and understanding the impact of information technology on organizations and markets. He has published numerous articles in top journals, including Management Science, MIS Quarterly, and Strategic Management Journal. His body of work is one example of the faculty’s successful research productivity, which sets the department apart from other universities. Although busy in his new position, the department chair always looks forward to going home to spend time with his wife and children. Waleed has two daughters, Danah (14) and Sarah (11), and two sons, Kahled (7) and Zyad (3). He also likes to find time for reading, community service, sailing, gardening, and playing soccer.
