Why Mentors Matter All successful professionals have that someone who has helped them learn the ropes and get to where they are today. “Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there. They serve some sort of purpose, by teaching you lessons or helping you figure out who you are and who you want to become. For me this person was Nancy Welton ‘97. Nancy recruited me as part of the Human Resources department of Prince Lobel Tye, LLC in 2007, and that was when everything began for me. I met Nancy while I was in high school and little did I know the amazing impact she would have on my life. Because of her, I decided to attain my degree in Human Resources at Fisher. A mentor offers encouragement, reduces mistakes, eliminates weaknesses, brings out your strengths, and will always be honest. A mentor will tell you the truth because their primary objective is to make sure you are successful. There is no doubt in my mind that Nancy is a big part of who I am today, a successful graduate ready to take on the real world.” Carolina Brea ‘12 Carolina Brea ’12, Human Resources Coordinator, Arnold Worldwide Advertising, Nancy Welton ’97, Director of Human Resources, Prince Lobel Tye, LLC

“Professor Linda Small is my mentor and has helped me throughout my career and some life changes. I discovered I was meant to be an early childhood educator by working in the children’s shoe department of Nordstrom’s. I was comfortable interacting with families and was inspired by the children. After years in the working world, I was nervous to go back to school to finish my degree. After meeting Professor Small, I had confidence that Fisher College was the right fit. Whenever I needed direction or assistance in a class or with an assignment, she was there. She has been my mentor, sometimes my lifeline, and proudly now my friend.” Brooke Findley ‘11 Brooke Findley ’11, Teacher, Sunshine Academy with Linda Small, Assistant Professor and Program Director, Early Childhood Education, Fisher College
