Paper Materials

Adhesive All ORAPAPER® products are supplied with a permanent acrylate adhesive, which has excellent processing and flat cutting features. Its well balanced adhesive profile makes it a perfect match for a wide range of different surfaces such as steel, glass, cardboard and plastics. Another important feature is its excellent ageing properties.

Silicone Paper All ORAPAPER® products are coated on one side with a silicone paper which displays high dimensional stability and a very good flatness. It is available in two different versions: 87 g/m² for unslit sheets and 98 g/m² for slit sheets. The slit lines break open to enable a quick removal of the silicone paper.

Notes on Processing and Handling 1. Storage ORAPAPER® printing papers are delivered in sheet form, and must always be stored flat on shelves or on pallets, in their original packing, in a cool and dry place protected from sunlight. Prior to processing, the self-adhesive films should be accommodated to the humidity and temperature conditions prevailing in the processing area. This is a necessary measure for all printing materials. It is however all the more important for self-adhesive products which are a composite of materials responding differently to temperature and humidity fluctuations. High temperatures must be avoided. Relative humidity of between 45% and 55% and temperatures in the range of +20° C to +24° C are considered ideal. The table below provides guidelines for the time required for accommodation depending on the stacking height of the sheets and the temperature difference between the sheets and the processing area. 2 Cutting The permanent adhesive especially designed for ORAPAPER® printing papers ensures excellent cutting behaviour, if the materials and cutting tools are handled correctly. It minimises the build-up of adhesive residue on the knife and thus the deposit of such residue on the edge of the sheet. This good result can be further improved by the following measures:

6

Engineered to Perform Better™ - www.orafol.com

- Always use a clean, sharp knife. - The cutting edge of the knife should have a sharp angle of 21°. - The use of a corrugated knife is recommended. - Put silicone oil or laundry soap on the knife especially on the rear side. - The clamping balls should apply as little pressure as possible during cutting. - Cut small stacks of e.g. 200 sheets. 3. Printing Use only printing ink systems recommended by the ink manufacturer for the self-adhesive material being processed. During multicolour printing, always ensure that each layer of ink has thoroughly dried before the next is applied. There is a direct relationship between dimensional stability and register accuracy during printing. Tunnel drying alters the moisture content of the self-adhesive composite material and the dimensional stability may be affected. To ensure register accuracy in multicolour prints, we recommend passing the self-adhesive material once through the printing machine and the tunnel dryer prior to printing. Undulation of the edges or plating of the self-adhesive material can always be traced to excessively dry or moist conditions within the processing area. Constant ambient conditions should be maintained both day and night. A large reduction in temperature promotes undulation of the edges.
