Kleinpaste Nursing Scholarship Program Winner Jordan Montes

Crest Senior Living Community in Albert Lea, MN. However, when it comes to long-term goals, Jordan has a slightly different career in mind; becoming a nurse.

Jordan is taking nursing classes at Riverland Community College in Austin, MN and was recently awarded with a Kleinpaste Nursing Scholarship. Jordan stated,” I feel honored and privileged to receive the scholarship and will always be grateful. I have always had a passion for the healthcare field and helping

my childhood, I saw my mom, as a nurse, as well as both my older sisters take care of people and realized nursing was a good career choice for me. Once again, I am thankful for the scholarship, and I am looking forward to my future in nursing.”

ABHM and Thorne Crest congratulate Jordan and wish him the best.

Scholarship Program Founder Harold W. Kleinpaste

Harold W. Kleinpaste was born on March 12, 1920, on the family farm near Sully, Iowa. Early in the 1920s the family moved to Hollandale, in southern Minnesota.

In 1960 Harold became the administrator of the Baptist Memorial Home in Harlan, Iowa, (now Elm Crest Senior Living Community). He and his wife, Kathleen, agreed the years spent in Harlan were some of the best years for the family.

Harold had a successful career in healthcare and in 1964 accepted a position as CEO of ABHM, based in the Twin Cities. Over the next 22 years, as CEO, he grew the company into one of the premier retirement and healthcare providers in the upper Midwest, before retiring in 1986.

After retiring the couple found their way back to Harlan, Iowa and enjoyed the small-town lifestyle living at Elm Crest. In 2006, shortly after Kathleen’s passing, Harold moved to another ABHM community, Thorne Crest, in Albert Lea, MN. Harold passed away in November 2010 but his legacy lives on.

Understanding the value of a good education and quality healthcare, Harold created the Kleinpaste Scholarship Fund. The scholarship provides financial support to ABHM staff members seeking to further their education in the field of nursing.

ABHM and the staff are grateful for Harold’s vision and generosity.

Elm Crest Administrator Tim Nauslar Retiring

Congratulations to Tim Nauslar - Retiring as Elm Crest (Harlan, IA) Administrator.

For years Tim Nauslar has been a steadfast presence at Elm Crest Senior Living Community in Harlan, Iowa. Now, after a decade of service he is starting a new adventure.

Prior to joining ABHM and Elm Crest Tim was in sales, and when you meet him you can still see the salesman with the big heart. Tim’s quick wit, endless energy and seemingly endless supply of jokes leave many wondering if he is the originator of “Dad Jokes”.

During his tenure at Elm Crest, Tim proved to be a positive force in the community; a leader, mentor, caretaker and friend to residents and staff alike. Recently Tim stated, “It has been an honor serving the residents and families of Harlan and working with a great management team. I feel everyone contributed to building a true sense of community that you can feel when you walk in the door of Elm Crest, talk to a staff member or resident. That is one of the many things I will miss.”

When asked what he will do in retirement, Tim said “my schedule is full until sometime this fall, so retirement is relative.”

From everyone at ABHM, we wish to congratulate Tim on his retirement and thank him for his years of leadership and service to ABHM and Elm Crest residents, staff and the people of Harlan.

Congratulations Tim!

Tired of the same workout routine?

Well!

Mix things up with

Interval Training!

Interval training involves a mixture of repeated short and high-intensity bursts of activity combined with periods of rest and recovery periods. Studies say by vayiing the instensity of your workouts this way, you’ll experience better cardiovascular benefits, you’re less apt to get bored, and you’ll keep burning calories well after your workout has ended! Your lungs may not appreciate the benefits while you’re doing it, but they will thank you later!
