Albuquerque Convention & Vistors Bureau Nabs Several Prestigious Industry Awards

A

LBUQUERQUE, NM – The Albuquerque Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) was recently awarded three esteemed industry recognitions: the Western Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus’ (WACVB) “Best Idea”, Meetings and Conventions Magazine’s Gold Service Award and Successful Meetings Magazine’s Pinnacle Award. Best Idea Program The WACVB’s “Best Idea” honors Convention and Visitors Bureaus (CVBs) that use unique, creative, and innovative approaches to marketing, managing, and operating a CVB. The winners were announced at the WACVB Annual Conference and Vendor Showcase in Ontario, California on October 15th. The ACVB was recognized as having a “Best Idea” for the “My Story is Written in Albuquerque” idea, a civic pride campaign that aimed to engage Albuquerque residents in sharing and appreciating all that Albuquerque has to offer. The goal of the campaign was to ensure that the ACVB capitalizes on the power of the word-of-mouth marketing of the hundreds of thousands of Albuquerque ambassadors living in the City. There were 25 entrants for this award and the ACVB was one of four CVBs to be recognized. This is the second “Best Idea” recognition that the ACVB has received in the last three years. Gold Service Award For over 30 years, Meetings and Conventions Magazine readers have been honoring CVBs with the Gold Award. The Gold Service Award is given to select CVBs dedicated to meeting professionals with excellent professionalism and service. The ACVB is thrilled to accept this award for the 15th time and for the 8th consecutive year. The ACVB was inducted into the Meetings and Conventions Magazine Hall of Fame for service in 2008, after receiving the award 12 times.

Pinnacle Award The ACVB was also awarded the Pinnacle Award from Successful Meetings Magazine. This is the 13th year that the readers of Successful Meetings Magazine have recognized the ACVB for standing out in hospitality excellence. The Pinnacle Award recognizes CVBs, hotels, conference centers and others in the travel and tourism industry for setting the standard in hospitality. This recognition is one of the most prestigious hospitality awards in the industry, often being compared to other travel rankings such as the AAA 5-Diamond. What sets the Pinnacle Award in such high esteem is that it is voted upon by over 50,000 of Successful Meetings Magazine readers: people in the travel/tourism industry who vote based on their personal experiences with those hotels, conference centers, CVBs, etc. The Pinnacle Award has been recognizing outstanding travel/tourism organizations for 27 years. “I am extremely proud to be associated with such a professional and creative team,” said Dale Lockett, President/CEO of the ACVB. “Being recognized in our industry says we’re staying on top of the consumer marketing trends and continuing to excel in customer service.”

Deepak Chopra On Making The Mind-Body Connection

G

etting a step closer to the person you want to be could start with a video game. That’s because Deepak Chopra, internationally renowned author and expert on mind-body wellness, has discovered a way to use video games as an interactive journey of the mind and body. Chopra blends ancient philosophies with the newest entertainment technology in the game “Leela”, available on Kinect™ for Xbox 360® and on Wii™. The Importance Of Play In Sanskrit, “leela” means “play”—a concept vital to mind-body wellness. More than a game, it is a one-of-akind experience that invokes wholebody movement with meditation and breathing techniques to relax, stretch and control both body and spirit. At its foundation is the concept of

the Seven Chakras, spiritual energy centers inside every human being. When these chakras are aligned, the result is greater well-being, opening new avenues of possibility and personal fulfillment. The seven stages of the game focus on these chakras, each offering successively more challenging experiences. Each area uses a different section of the body, and as each section is mastered, players learn how to bring these energy centers into alignment. There is no traditional winning or losing. Instilling A Sense Of Inner Harmony The game moves at an individual’s pace, and its only aim is to instill an inner sense of harmony and accomplishment. “The medium of interactive video games is enormously rich and filled with creative opportunity that has barely been tapped,” says

Chopra, who, along with Curious Pictures, spent more than two years conceptualizing the game. “There are many people who practice yoga and meditation who have video-game systems in their homes, powerful devices that are capable of creating wonderful experiences.” On Kinect for Xbox 360, “Leela” also incorporates “stillness meditation,” an activity that uses technology to display a real-time graphical representation of breathing, offering gentle feedback and guidance for a number of deep-breathing exercises. Reflecting Your Imagination Users can create a personalized mandala, or visual representation of the inner self. No two can be alike, and each one reflects the beauty, nature, senses and imagination of the individual.
