Dr. Gregorio T. Mariano, Jr., a member of UPCM Class 1962 has indeed measured up to the challenge of “giving back, not only to his Alma Mater, but likewise to his countrymen. Albeit being part of his class who made the exodus to the United States to pursue further training, he was also among those who decided to stay there to practice his specialty in Internal Medicine in Pennsylvania. He had however continued to come home and actively participate whenever their class embarked in civic related projects during their milestone anniversaries. These included the Gawad Kalinga Housing Project in Quezon City for our homeless countrymen during their golden anniversary, as well as in various infrastructure projects for his beloved Alma Mater. While in the United States, he stayed connected with former classmates at the PGHMFI where he coordinates with them regarding referrals for patients brought to his attention for assistance at the PGH. The successful assistance to these patients inspired him to organize the Century Club Endowment Fund, as a project under the PGHMFI, to ensure sustainable assistance to these patients. In furtherance to this objective, he coordinated with fellow members of the UP Medical Alumni Society in America (UPMASA) to solicit their support by recruiting them as members of the Club and donating at least One Hundred Dollars ($100.00), thus deriving the name Century Club. His recent visit to PGH was full of nostalgia as he went around the wards and reminisce the times he cared for these patients during his younger years. He is s h o w n s e a t e d (extreme right) with the PGH Director (second from left) and some officers and staff of the PGHMFI.
