Important Center Information

FiftyForward is partnering with the Metro Nashville Public Health Department to provide free, no-appointment COVID testing and vaccination clinics. You can visit one of our three FiftyForward host sites: FiftyForward Donelson Station, Knowles, and Madison Station. We are very excited about this partnership as FiftyForward is committed to being part of the effort to keep our community safe and to offering easy access to COVID vaccination and testing. It is important to be up to date with COVID vaccination. Being up to date means that a person has received all doses in their primary vaccine series and at least one booster dose. Second boosters are also available to those 50 and older or those who are immunocompromised. Learn more below.

The Importance of COVID-19 boosters The best way to prevent experiencing serious COVID-19 illness is to be fully vaccinated and up-to-date with your COVID-19 vaccinations. In Tennessee, only 21% of individuals have received a booster dose of the COVID vaccine. Science shows us that boosters are essential to provide the best protection from serious COVID illness. During the recent Omicron surge, individuals who were boosted were 21 times less likely to die and 7 times less likely to be hospitalized compared to those who were unvaccinated. Older adults and immunocompromised individuals experience the most serious complications from COVID. The CDC now recommends an additional booster for certain individuals. Read more about that by clicking HERE. We care about you and encourage you to take advantage of the free and widely available COVID-19 boosters to keep yourself, your loved ones and our community as safe as possible from COVID-19 illness. Find more information here from the CDC about the importance of being fully vaccinated and staying up-to-date on your COVID-19 vaccination: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/stay-up-to-date.html

As of this time, masks remain optional at FiftyForward locations. Everyone who chooses to wear a mask will be supported completely. We continue to pay close attention to guidance from government and health officials, and our mask policy may change again in the future if the situation with COVID-19 transmission in our community changes. Please speak with staff if you have any questions about our mask policy.

Squeeze the Day Podcast Mark Edward Dickerson married his partner, Chef Kevin Miehlke, after almost 40 years. From birth to adulthood, through this interview, we learn the role that adoptions have played in his life and how family, fostering connections, and the internet, have brought new meaning to building relationships. In this podcast, Mark speaks about his adoptive mother, the lessons he learned from her, and shares how he recently discovered another very close family member. In addition, Mark takes great care to give a strong thank you to other small businesses in the community that during these challenging times are helping him and Kevin feed older adults. As a couple, they contribute so much to the lives of others including mentoring young employees with disabilities. His reference to welcoming the birth mothers of the two children they adopted says so much. Learn more about Mark and Kevin and their desire to give back and to Squeeze the Day through kindness. We are eager to help others discover the interesting stories of older adults. Please pass the word about these great stories to grow our listening audience.
