Rummage Sale It's time for Spring cleaning! Please support our center by donating items. We are now collecting items for the rummage sale. This is a great time to weed out items from closets and garages. We will accept household items, dishes, decorative items, jewelry, tools, craft supplies and holiday decorations. No furniture, appliances, clothes or broken items. Items will go on sale as soon as we get items in and organized on tables. Wednesday, May 15, 11:30 a.m. Birthday Potluck: Century Farms and TN Barns Caneta Hankins, MTSU assistant director of the Center for Historic Preservation and Director of the Tennessee Century Farms program, has the responsibility for this statewide program that documents and recognizes farms that have been in the same family for at least 100 years. The Center provides the main dish, so please bring a covered side dish. Thursday, May 23, 1 p.m. - SHIP is a national program that provides free and objective, one-on-one counseling, information distribution, and assistance to people with Medicare, potential Medicare consumers, their families, and other advocates. Linda Abate, RN and Certified SHIP Counselor, will be at the center to help any members with questions. Please sign up if need assistance. Thursday, May 30 -Cook Out and Corn Hole Join us for an afternoon of great food and fun. Walgreens is sponsoring the cookout and donating the center a corn hole game. Corn hole is a lawn game where players take turns throwing corn hole bags at a raised platform with a hole in the far end for points. Bring a friend and have a good time. Please sign up if interested, so we will know how much food to prepare. Wednesday, May 8 - GroWild Take a trip to Fairview to tour a native plant nursery. GroWild is recognized as

one of the leading wholesale native plant nurseries in the eastern U.S. There will be some walking involved to view the different gardens, so wear comfortable shoes. Van leaves center at 9 a.m. Van fee $5. Friday, May 31 - Distillery Tour and Tasting Travel to Woodbury to tour Short Mountain Distillery, Tennessee's 6th distillery making authentic small-batch, Tennessee Moonshine, Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey from corn grown and stone-milled on a 300 acre working farm. Visitors can taste and purchase moonshine and can expect to learn about local history and heritage of whiskey making. Learn about organic permaculture farm practices and also take the Cave Spring trail to see how we preserve our natural resources for generations to come. Leave at 9:15 a.m. Van fee $5. Lunch nearby.


CLASSEs Wednesday, May 29, 1 - 3 p.m. Bob Ross Painting Workshop Certified Bob Ross instructor, Liz Farrar, will teach a 2 hour class on 11x14 canvas in oil paint. Easy to follow, step by step instructions and demos for each step. This class is for beginners, yet experienced painters find they learn from it as well. Students should wear old clothes, since it tends to get messy! The cost is $20 and includes all supplies. You will take home a completed oil paint picture at the end of class. Sign up at center or call 368.7093. Non-members $3 fee. Bible Study The Bible study class meets the second and fourth Tuesday, May 14 and 28, 9:30 a.m. Everyone is invited. Facilitator: Frances Greathouse Computer Class Classes every Tuesday If you have a laptop, you may bring it to class. Pay as you go, $6 per class. Preserving Family Stories on the Computer Classes currently suspended until further notice Learn new ways to start creating a variety of unique personalized items of your memories with projects inside Heritage Makers Studio.You can make one with your own style and have a treasure to pass on to your children and grandchildren. We have a multitude of projects you can create for your home, family and friends that will be treasured for years to come. Give it a try and you'll be creating your own in no time!! $6 per class History and Genealogy The History & Genealogy Group meets the 2nd and 4th Mondays at 1 p.m. Please call the center first to confirm class meeting. Facilitator: Carolyn Smotherman Health & Fitness Zumba Gold This class is perfect for those just starting their fitness journey. It’s a dance-fitness class that feels friendly and fun with easy to follow invigorating moves. Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:45 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Class fees are $3 members and $5 non members Punch cards will be available to purchase in advance. Yogalates Yoga poses, combined with Mat Pilates exercises to help improve balance, flexibility and a full body workout for all levels and body styles. Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Class fees are $3 members and $5 non members. Punch cards will be available to purchase in advance. Wear proper workout clothes. Barefoot or socks with rubber grips on bottom Instructor: Gineille Sabilino Line Dancing Learn the latest and hottest new line dances Friday mornings from 10 to 11:30 a.m. You will have a great time while you feel the benefits of a cardio workout. Center members, Sam and Shirley Kirtley, are great instructors and line dance enthusiasts. No fee.Cathy Smotherman assistant instructor and researcher. An intermediate line dance class has been added on Mondays, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Blood Pressure Checks Every other Thursday at 10 a.m. blood pressure checks by Willowbrook. Massages Wednesdays by appointment May 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 Licensed Massage Therapist, Kathy McFarlane, has years of experience serving mature adults with a gentle touch. Cost: $45 mbrs. $60 non-members Writer’s Group Writing, Etc. is for people who love and appreciate the written word whether it is poetry or prose, fact or fiction. The group is open to published writers, beginners, and those who are at any point in between. Gentle critiques are given if requested. Come write with us every first and third Thursday of each month. May 2 and 16, 1 – 3 p.m. Free for members. Non members fee $24 a year. Hand Work Group The group continues to meet every Thursday at 10 a.m. to knit, crochet, construct quilt pieces, tat, cross stitch and other types of hand work. A great time to visit with others while working on individual projects. New participants are welcome. Mentoring and tutoring available. No fee. FiftyForward College Grove Book Discussion Group The book discussion group meets May 21 at 9 a.m. to discuss The Falls by Joyce Carol Oats. New members are always welcome. Red Hat Society, Wednesday, May 22 Travel south to Lynnville to tour the Milky Way Farm Mansion. The Milky Way Farm began because of the vision of Frank Mars who purchased land in Tennessee in the 1930′s after the success of his Milky Way candy bar. We will be treated to coffee around their amazing dining room table. Van will leave the center at 9 a.m. Van fee $5. Lunch at nearby restaurant.
