ANTIQUES GROVE SHOW: MONDAY, JAN. 27 Do you have any old jewelry or collectibles around the house that you wonder about their origin or age or value? If so, bring them to the Center on Monday, Jan. 27, when two local dealers will be here to evaluate your treasures. Jeweler Johnny Turner, of Crown Jewelers in Franklin, will be on hand to examine your jewelry. He says each person can bring several pieces. Antiques dealer, Stacey Harris-Fish from Three French Hens in Nolensville, will discuss your collectibles and small furniture pieces — pretty much anything except knives and clocks. Our guest experts will tell you what price they would put on your items if they were for sale in their respective stores. Johnny and Stacey are not appraisers, however, so the information they offer will not be for insurance purposes. You should begin arriving by 9:30 on the morning of the 27th so staff can register you. Please don’t bring anything larger or heavier than you can carry by yourself. Antiques Grove Show begins at 10 a.m., and lunch ($4) will follow at 11:30. Please sign up by Thurs., Jan 23, and indicate how many items you plan to bring. Editor’s Note: I have four of Mama’s pearl necklaces. They are likely all costume jewelry with little dollar-value, but I plan to learn for sure from Johnny. I also have an interesting old floor lamp and am curious to find out if Stacey can tell me anything about it. -Libby

BINGO FOR JANUARY BIRTHDAY POTLUCK We are keeping it simple — and social — for Birthday Potluck this month by playing a hearty round of Bingo. Join us for an afternoon of great food and great fellowship this January 15. Prizes will be sponsored by Walgreens. Lunch is at 11:30. Bingo at noon. The Center provides the main course. Please bring a side dish.

RED HAT SOCIETY 2014 PLANNING MEETING: JAN. 22 The Red Hat Society will hold their 2014 Planning Meeting at the Center on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. This is when the group decides what trips they want to take for the year. It’s a fun morning. Everyone brings lunch, and they usually collect a small donation for the year’s expenses.

FROM THE DIRECTOR…

CAKE DECORATING CLASS OFFERED

Thanks to everyone who rode in the center’s float at the College Grove Christmas Parade. Congratulations to all you cool cats for winning third place in the float decoration. It was a very fun Sunday afternoon! I would like to welcome all of our new members to the center and thanks to all of our renewing members for 2014. Happy New Year! We are looking forward to a great year with many new programs, classes and trips for you to choose from. January is the month for making New Year Resolutions. Is yours to get fit, learn something new or eat healthier? If you said Yes, then I hope you will participate in our Line Dance class or walk laps in the gym, discover your artistic side with the Bob Ross Painting Workshop, or attend a healthy cooking demonstration. Membership fee for 2014 is $75. Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or great program ideas. We are always here to listen.

Have you ever wished you knew how to decorate your cakes in a fanciful way, but didn’t want to drive to town to learn how? If so, then we have the class for you! Rachel Fast will teach cake decorating at the Center in January. Rachel is an experienced cake decorator, owns her own business, and is Mrs. Jean Fast’s granddaughter. In addition to the basics of cake decorating, students will learn a variety of techniques, including: • drop flowers and rosettes • shell borders • leaves

Additionally, students will need to purchase supplies. Together, the supplies run about $55, however, Jo-Ann offers 50% off coupons from their website, which will reduce the total significantly. The class needs four people to “make,” so please be sure and sign up if you are interested. The list of supplies is available at the Center.

Put-Togethers is the theme of Bobbie’s cooking demonstration, and her menu includes: Salad & Bread Cranberry Meatballs & Rice Green Beans Dessert The word around the Center says you don’t want to miss Bobbie’s cooking.
