Mercer - 75 FGCU - 66

FORT MYERS, Fla. - A seasonhigh six players reached double figures led by 17 points from 6-foot-9 sharpshooting freshman FILIP CVJETICANIN (pictured), as FGCU picked up its third win in a row with a 92-74 A-Sun triumph over Kennesaw State in front of 2,810 fans at Alico Arena Saturday night. FGCU’s three-game win streak is its longest of the season and its 11 wins (11-10) equal a program Division I record. Cvjeticanin’s 5-for-6 night from three-point land was a microcosm of the type of shooting performance the Eagles put on, surpassing the 50-percent clip for the third straight game. FGCU finished 29of-48 from the field (60.4%) and knocked down 27-of-34 at the free throw line to break 90 points for the third straight game. At least five players reached double figures for the seventh time in 11 games for FGCU, while Cvjeticanin’s 17 points off the bench marked the 11th occasion the Eagles’ leading scorer has come off the pine. Sophomore CHASE FIELER scored a career-high 15 points to lead four starters in double-digits. With the score tied 47-47 at the 12:35 mark of the second half, FGCU broke the game open over the next four and half minutes thanks to a 19-4 run. The game-changing spurt was capped by back-to-back three-pointers by Cvjeticanin, while Fieler had five points and two assists during the run that gave the Eagles a 66-51 lead with 7:01 remaining.

FORT MYERS, Fla. - A 12-0 Mercer run early in the second half and a 20-point night from sophomore point guard Langston Hall proved to be the difference, as a late FGCU run wasn’t enough as it fell to the Bears, 75-66, on Monday night at Alico Arena. Junior SHERWOOD BROWN turned in his third double-double of the season with team-highs of 15 points and 13 rebounds. Redshirt junior EDDIE MURRAY (pictured) was the only other Eagle in double figures with 12, including 10 in the first half. Brown hauled in seven offensive rebounds to highlight a seasonbest 18 offensive caroms by the Eagles, but it came on a night in which the Green and Blue shot under 40 percent for just the third time this year. FGCU shot a season-low 37 percent (22-59) and 33 percent (8-24) from three, categories in which it leads the A-Sun. Hall’s 20 points came on the strength of 5-of-9 from three-point land en route to leading the Bears to a season-high 11 treys (11-22). The top defensive team in the A-Sun, Mercer was also efficient on the offensive end, shooting 59 percent (27-46) from the field while passing out 18 assists on 27 field goals. Following a breakaway dunk by freshman BERNARD THOMPSON that brought the Eagles within one, 43-42, Mercer went on a crucial 16-3 run that started with 12 consecutive points and saw the Bears score on eight straight possessions.
