Belmont - 86 FGCU - 63

FGCU - 89 Lipscomb - 68

FORT MYERS, Fla. - A 12-0 Belmont run that stretched from the end of the first half into the opening four minutes of the second half highlighted a strong final 20 minutes for the Bruins, as FGCU fell, 86-63, on Saturday night in front of an Alico Arena crowd of 3,007 fans. All 11 of sophomore CHRISTOPHE VARIDEL’S (pictured) points came in the first half on 3-of-7 from long range. Junior SHERWOOD BROWN reached double figures for the seventh straight game with 10 points and six boards, while DANTE HOLMES made it 22 games that a freshman has scored in double figures for the Eagles with 10 off the bench. Six players reached double figures for Belmont, a feat FGCU accomplished earlier in the year in a win over Longwood and up until tonight was the only A-Sun team do so. Junior Ian Clark poured in a game-high 17 points on five three-pointers and dished out six assists with no turnovers. As a team, Belmont finished with 24 assists on its 30 field goals, led by a combined 20 assists and two turnovers from the combo of Clark, JJ Mann and Kerron Johnson. The difference in the game was the Bruins’ 50 percent (30-60) shooting night from the field and their ability to turn just 12 FGCU turnovers into 17 points. On the flipside, the Eagles shot 38 percent (22-58) and only had two points off turnovers due to Belmont committing just seven miscues.

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Behind six players in double figures, FGCU led for all but 15 seconds in a convincing 89-68 Atlantic Sun win over Lipscomb Monday night at Alico Arena. Eligible for postseason play for the first time in school history, the Eagles clinched a berth in the A-Sun Tournament with the victory. Balance has been the theme all season for the Green and Blue, as it marked the second time that six players have reached double figures in the same game, while the Eagles improved to 8-0 when at least five players accomplish the feat. FGCU was clicking on all cylinders on the offensive end, shooting 54 percent (34-63) for the game, while dishing out a season-high 24 assists to just 12 turnovers. Seven different players knocked down a three-pointer led by sophomore CHRISTOPHE VARIDEL’S 4-of-8 night, as the Eagles finished 11-of-23 as a team. Junior SHERWOOD BROWN led FGCU with his eighth straight double-digit outing that featured 13 points and six rebounds. Varidel scored all 12 of his points via the three-point shot, while redshirt junior EDDIE MURRAY and freshman BERNARD THOMPSON made it four starters in double-digits with 10 points and six rebounds each. The final two double figure scorers came off the pine where by FGCU won the bench scoring battle for the 21st time this season by a 39-18 margin.
