THOMPSON Evansville

Tom Thompson begins his seventh season as an assistant softball coach at Florida Gulf Coast University. Thompson works primarily with the Eagles’ pitching staff. In five years with the Eagles, he has compiled an overall record of 252-60. The 2007 pitching staff had two 29-game winners and the 5th lowest earned run average in the country at 1.11. He brings a wealth of experience to FGCU as he has been coaching softball for over ten years. Prior to FGCU, he spent eight years as the assistant softball coach at Lely High School in Naples. In addition, Thompson was also the head coach of the Tropic Wave 16-U and 18-U travel softball teams from 1996 to 2003. He graduated from the University of Evansville with a BS degree in Management. While at Evansville, he also played on the golf team. Thompson and his wife Beth reside in Naples, Fla. He has two grown daughters, Jennifer of Naples and Betsy of Charlotte, North Carolina.

MINER Evansville

Jeff Miner enters his first season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Eagles. Miner has been a teacher in the Lee County School System for 34 years. He currently teaches Physical Education at Hancock Creek Elementary School in North Fort Myers, Fla. In 2008, Coach Miner received the Lee County Physical Education Teacher of the Year award. He has 20 years of Varsity High School coaching experience. Coach Miner coached from 2002 – 2010 at North Fort Myers High School, where he was the Head Varsity Softball Coach. During that time the team amassed a record of 154-65, winning two district championships, one conference title, one regional championship and a state final four appearance. He was also selected as the 2009 Fort Myers News-Press Coach of the Year. Coach Miner graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College, where he was a member of the Varsity Soccer team and twice received the Male Athlete of the Year award. He received a Masters of Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. He resides in Cape Coral with his wife Bobbie. They have two children, J.D. and Brooke.
