2012 májusában két alkotói műhelyt is indított a Fiatalok Fotóművészeti Stúdiója a Fotóhónap kiállításaira készülve. Ezek egyike volt a 80-as generáció, melynek közvetlen előzménye a Kontra Műhely azonos címet viselő konferenciája és kiadványa volt. A fiatal szociológusokból, pszichológusokból, vizuális antropológusokból álló Kontra Műhely tagjai 2010-ben megjelent tanulmányaikban olyan társadalmi jelenségekkel és problémákkal foglalkoztak, amelyek a 20-30 éves fiatalokat érintik – azaz önreflexív módon a saját generációjukat is. Az FFS a műhelymunka során nemcsak alkotóközösségként, hanem szabadegyetemként is funkcionált, ahol a tagok hétről hétre részt vehettek egyegy előadáson, amelyek a külföldi letelepedés, az átalakuló családmodellek, a megváltozott közösségfogalom témáit járták körbe, illetve a nemzeti identitás fogalom meghatározó tényezőiről vitatkozhattak a 1980-as években születettekre vonatkoztatva. A Kontra Műhely meghívott előadói és a kötet társadalomtudós szerzőinek szövegei inspirálták a résztvevő FFS-tagokat egyéni projektötleteik megszületésekor. Az FFS és a Kontra Műhely közös projektjének célja az volt, hogy önvizsgálatot készítsen és körképet adjon arról, miként látja saját generációnk önmagát. Mások vagyunk-e, mint az előttünk születettek és az utánunk következők? Hatással volt-e gondolkodásunkra, hogy gyerekkorunk egy részét a szocializmusban töltöttük, de még gyermekként éltük meg a rendszerváltást? Rendelkezünk olyan értékrenddel, család- és munkamodellel, ami meglévő, szülői, még az előző rendszerben kiépült mintákon alapul, ám ezeket a szocializációs mintákat a való életbe kilépve nem tudjuk alkalmazni. Eljárt felettük az idő. A kiállításon látható művek generációs önreflexiók, amelyek önmagukon túlmutatva fogalmazzák meg a 80-as generáció jelenlegi társadalmi kérdéseit és problémáit. A kiállítás ugyanakkor a jelen mellett a múltba is kalauzol minket, egyes projektek olyan eseményekkel, helyszínekkel foglalkoznak, amelyek az 1980-as évekhez kapcsolódnak. Tágabb értelemben magához a rendszerváltás előtti Magyarországhoz – amelyben, még ha keveset is, de éltünk –, s amelyben olyan változások történtek, amik a mi életünket is befolyásolták. A 80-as generáció kiállítás az FFS közel féléves műhelymunkájának eredményeit mutatja be. Kiállítók: a műhelymunkában résztvevő, az 1980-as években született FFS-tagok.

In preparation of the Photo Month, the Young Photographers’ Studio (FFS) launched two creative workshops in May 2012. One of them was The ‘80s Generation, with Kontra Műhely’s conference and publication of the same title serving as an immediate precedent. In studies published in 2010, the young sociologists, psychologists and visual anthropologists of Kontra Műhely addressed social phenomena and problems that concern young people in their twenties and thirties – including, that is, their own generation. For the duration of the workshop FFS functioned both as a creative community and as an open university, with a weekly lecture for members which addressed such problems as settling in a foreign country, the transformation of family models, and the changing concept of the community. Participants also discussed those factors that influence the sense of national identity for those born in the 1980s. The members of FFS drew inspirations for their individual projects from the guests speakers of Kontra Műhely and the authors of the volume mentioned. The joint project of FFS and Kontra Műhely was to initiate self-inspection, and offer an overview of how our generation perceives itself. Are we different from those who were born before and after us? Does it influence our mentality to have spent part of our childhood in socialism but to have experienced the political transition still as children? We do have a set of values and a model for the family and for work which are based on our parents’ own models, ones established in the former regime, but we cannot use these patterns of socialization in real life. Time has gone by us. The works at this exhibition are self-reflections by a generation, which point beyond themselves when they represent the current social issues and problems of those born in the ‘80s. In addition to the present, the exhibit also explores the past, with some of the projects dealing with events and scenes that are related to the 1980s. In a broader sense, they are related to Hungary before the political transition, in which we lived however shortly, and in which those changes took place that were to influence our own lives.
