The ideas competition proposes the interaction between contemporary technologies and the landscape, for this it is requested to recover an existing structure from the Second World War and introduce a use of Data Center taking into account certain technical requirements. My proposal was to generate a programmatic ribbon, two patios and modify the three existing structures. A “new ruin” is inserted into the landscape and a vertical element allows it to be appropriated. The project starts from carrying out three architectural operations on the existing elements and then wrapping a ribbon of new programs around them and generating a unified set through the use of a ventilated façade veneered with stone from the area that is hidden behind some textiles.

The assignment consisted of developing at a schematic and conceptual level the possible fit of the request for areas for the new office headquarters for a private client in Bogota, complemented with semi-public uses, for which the building is presented as an articulator of two urban axes, generating a small covered square on the corner that is nourished with activity by making use of the glazed basement. On top of this emerges a volume with terraces and a jagged facade that responds adequately to the sunlight and opens with large windows on 85th Street.

The project is a part of the C.E.F.E framework, where the institutional administration promotes the construction of various recreational and cultural facilities in key locations of the city. In this particular case, the land is situated in El Indio Park in Suba. The cultural program is consolidated in an elongated bar and a 5-story building, creating a facade on Calle 127, which serves as a landmark that connects the park’s entrance. The sports program is consolidated in an elongated building embedded in the mountain, which is perforated to create a “crack” and connect the park’s highest levels with the cultural building. Additionally, a bridge connects both structures, complementing the sequence of circulations.

This exercise is the result of a 2nd place in the public competition for the design of the Lombardía School, where the S.E.D delivered a series of plots for the construction of educational institutions. This corner plot is located in a privileged location between two large natural elements, one of them is the Bogotá River to the north and the Jaboque wetland to the south, therefore the first guideline for the project is to take advantage of the visuals and generate a semi-public connection between both fronts. Taking advantage of the regulatory opportunities of the P.M.E.E, an elongated 6-floors bar facing north that contains the classrooms is proposed, in the rest of the perimeter the dining room, the library and the auditorium are located, this allows the project to contribute to urban activity of the sector.

Framed within the national urban improvement plan promoted by SEDATU (MEX), the project remakes the intentions of building a cultural facility in Cancun. The property adjoins a pre-existing building and occupies a plot from street to street. With these two premises, the proposal is based on building an exterior wall with low volumes and grouping the main uses (stage box, auditorium) inside the block to improve the urban relationship with the pedestrian. The new building is separated from the existing Cultural Center to generate an interstitial lobby that gives continuity to the access plaza and allows the new building to be articulated with the old one.

JUAN FELIPE DIAZ MARULANDA
Felipe is an architect from the San Buenaventura University of Cali with experience in architectural design and a special interest in construction. He graduated in 2016 with the thesis “Recovery of a gap between centralities” which was awarded first place at the 2016 Colombian Biennial of Architecture Students in the category of Urban Design and Landscaping. He currently resides in the city of Bogotá and works for the Architecture and Building area at the consulting company IDOM. He has around 7 years of experience focused on the development of buildings and urban infrastructure of various scales. Some of the projects built to highlight are the Supercade Manitas, the C.E.F.E las Cometas, I.E.D Colegio el Porvenir and the Teatro de la Ciudad de Cancún, projects that he led during his time at architecture studios such as ARE – Arquitectura en Estudio y TALLER, there he perform the different tasks related to the execution of a project from its basic outline stage to its executive delivery. Additionally, during that period he actively participated in various public and private competitions, where some were awarded, such as: The local Mayor’s Office of Santa Fe (2 °), El C.E.F.E Chapinero (2nd), among others. He currently holds the position of commissioning director and has led or contributed to the development of atypical projects such as the Hydrocarbons Laboratory for Ecopetrol and the Workshop Yards for the Valle commuter train, among others. Likewise his affinity for design has led him to compete in ideas competitions such as INNATUR 09 and the most recent YAC DATA CENTER.
