College students are stressed and at times it can get overwhelming. Think about what many college students go through. They feel intense pressure to obtain high grades in connection with career aspirations along with having to take final exams. They do all of this while trying to establish a romantic/ social life, dealing with (often very high) costs for school, and maybe working at a job (or two) during the school year. With everyday stress a student can accumulate a lot more then they can manage. It may seem like there’s nothing you can do about stress but you have more control than you might think. In fact, the simple realization that you’re in control of your life is the foundation of stress management. Managing stress is all about taking charge of your thoughts, emotions, schedule and the way you deal with problems. Many students are able to keep their stress levels relatively under control or even thrive in the college setting. However, for some students, the challenges and frustrations of campus life appear to lead to severe emotional problems.

Campus Safety provides many services for students, like assisting in jump-starting vehicles with dead batteries, opening locked vehicles, providing escort services for staff and students returning to their vehicles after dark, and several other services. In the past there have been some incidents on campus, and campus safety tries their best to make sure students feel safe on campus.

Here are some important safety tips from Sergeant Jim McKamy of Campus Safety :

To most people Legos are just a fragment of their childhood that they leave behind in their parent’s garage while they move out and start their life in the real world. That isn’t the case for the creator of Minilife TV, Chris Salaises, who makes these Lego people come to life in the city, rightfully named, Minilife. Minilife TV is a web-series on YouTube made completely out of Legos that Chris brings to life in every

episode. Using stop motion animation these tiny yellow face figurines come to life on the fictional planet Legondo each week getting into trouble and overcoming obstacles that are larger than life. Chris started Minilife TV in early 2012 when he realized that he didn’t want to have a conventional job for the rest of his life; he turned to longtime friend Ian Holmquist with his idea about Minilife TV, who was ready to start this adventure with him. While Chris is attending Fullerton College and Ian is studying at Cal State Long Beach, they have run into a few problems that they haven’t

The process of a straight razor shave begins with a hot towel, followed by a facial and then a cold towel to close the pores. This gives them that clean close shave that no disposable razor can give them. Classic haircuts are what is very popular right now, says Luna. Some men don’t feel like they can trust any barber because they’ve had a bad experience or they don’t want to pay for a haircut so they do it on their own. “It’s hard to find someone who can do a good gentlemen’s haircut, like a classic graduated fade and a good style,” Siffer said. Barbershops offer services that an average hair salon doesn’t usually do. “I have a lot of clients who like straight-razor shaves,” said Maria Luna, barber at Classic Barbers, “Not a lot of people know how to do straight razor shaves and others don’t like to do them because it can be time consuming.”

A popular hairstyle with Siffer is the undercut, which is a one-size guard on the clipper all the way around and then you let the rest of the hair fall down. Siffer loves his job because he’s able to set his own hours and he doesn’t have a boss. He’s a third generation barber. “When he does it, he just does it right,” said Mike Hernandez, manager of Music Revolution, a loyal customer of Siffer. What Siffer also enjoys is listening to his customers and giving them advice. “I used to want to go to school to be a psychiatrist,” Siffer said, “Then I decided that being a barber is just like being a therapist you just don’t have

what they had in mind. Coastal Playground is an online company that sells clothing, photo prints, art and other surf-related merchandise, and gives 50 percent of their proceeds to nonprofit organizations dedicated to keeping southern California beaches clean. According to their website, Coastal Playground has clocked over 5,000 volunteer hours (3,000 hours equals about $25,000 in labor) and has removed over 2,500 pounds of trash from local beaches. “It’s really nice knowing that when you buy something from them, your money is also going toward cleaning the beaches we all love,” Zamarripa said. For the time being, Zamarripa is just having fun with ocean photography, rather than making it his main career goal. But it is a passion he will always pursue. “Maybe one day when I have enough money I can upgrade my camera and then maybe consider bigger avenues,” he said. “I’m definitely always going to be doing it, so in the future, I’ll always have a camera in my hand in the water.”

It’s been arguably 55 years since skateboards have hit the streets of Southern California. After breaking away from the yo-yo and hula-hoop comparisons of the 1970s, a few pioneers of the skateboard culture, made way for some of the best minds of our generation to

innovatively

themselves. Even at the risk of laceration, dislocation, and numerous other possible eradications of their physical well-being. Considering that Fullerton and its surrounding cities have been bathing in the midst of this chaotic art form since the birth, it should come as no surprise some of most ambitious and highly skilled youth currently bleeding onto the public eye, are residents like Sammy Montano. Sponsored rider of Brea based Liberty Board Shop, which currently supplies and promotes a large percent of skateboard retail to the greater Fullerton and Brea areas. Montano is emerging into the skate scene with an undoubtedly authentic style. Making a name for him self with sponsors such as Sml Wheels, CCS, Lakai and Chocolate Skateboards. Montano is seemingly the epitome of up and coming in the skateboard industry. Currently residing in various locations of North Orange County and Redondo Beach,

Sports roar in the background. The smell of pizza and wings fills the bar each time the kitchen door opens. There’s a cold breeze seeping from underneath the bar window that will end up working in the bartender’s favor. The alcohol sold will soon provide the warmth for the customers. There is a uniqueness about this family-owned pizza place in Anaheim 10 minutes from the Fullerton border that keeps people coming. But it’s not just the pizza that brings them in. Out of the Park Pizza is one of the few craft beer bars around the Orange County area, and one of the very few that actually taps home-brewed beer on occasion. Over the years the craft beer market has become increasingly popular. So popular, that the “Big Three,” Coors Light, Budweiser and Miller, are feeling threatened and are now purchasing smaller breweries who are gaining a following to keep up in the market. They are also creating beers that resemble craft beer, which is why Blue Moon and Shock Top came about. The increasing popularity has also given small business owners the opportunity to make a few bucks.

Festivals have many judging opportunities for brewers who want to know if they are succeeding in making a good beer. The beer is rated on a scale of 0-50 and based on five categories in the style guide for the particular beer that is being judged. These five categories include aroma, appearance, flavor, mouth feel, and overall impression. Helpful tips are always given because the judges want to encourage new and old members in the craft of brewing to continue creating new beers. Women in luxurious gem tones fitted dresses step in and out of shops, dripping in chunky brooches and earrings, wide-brimmed floppy wool hats and fringe brush past you as you walk down the street. Don’t be alarmed. You haven’t been sucked into a time warp. This is recycled fashion; clothing that is inspired by and from years before. Popularity in vintage fashion has been on a steady incline in recent years; a reality made so because it has become much more accessible. Even if you aren’t spending hundreds of dollars on a dress from 1945, you can get something for $25 that is “vintage inspired”. However, unlike most popular trends, vintage never leaves the racks. Some people even have clothing older than their parents. As much as vintage clothing has become trendy and the new ‘it’ thing for many, some consider it lifestyle and have considered it so for quite some time. Monica Ames originally got her start at Buffalo Exchange, a shop that specializes in recycled fashion. Her love of vintage was inspired by her love of thrift shopping. Now she works at Memos Vintage, which used to be called American Vintage in Downtown Fullerton. At 14, one of the first pieces of vintage clothing she ever bought was a handkerchief wrap skirt from Out of Vogue, a fellow Downtown Fullerton vintage shop. “I’ve always personally loved fashion, I’ve always been into it—since I was a little girl. I even used to have vintage Barbies, so I have always been drawn to the aesthetics of vintage clothing.” In society, history repeats itself, and that certainly isn’t any different when it comes to style.

O ut THE 1950s There were delinquents, and there were squares. John Waters made a film called Cry Baby starring Johnny Depp. Costume wise; it depicts the separation of styles to a T. Plus Johnny Depp dressed up like a juvenile delinquent is like seeing a unicorn. Many think that the 1950’s were the most expressive in terms of groups and cultures at

the time. Women that were considered “fast” or promiscuous wore leather and fitted skirts that grazed their knees, bright red lipstick and winged eyeliner that would put Cleopatra to shame. Rockabilly and Pin Up styles continued to be popular into the 1950s and were elaborated upon throughout. The styles spoke for themselves. Women that were more conservative draped themselves in circle skirts and cardigans with bows and frilly socks. Modern trends that have taken from the 1950’s can be found on online shops like Modcloth and Fred Flare. Most vintage shops find that the most easily accessible decade in terms of collecting vintage clothing is the 50s, they also happen to be one of the more seem to really enjoy. “A lot of the great pieces that we get in our shop are the 50s dresses.”

The lack of sleep students or tossing back the 2-for-1 tequila Tuesday shots, affects them so much that they take advantage of any free time they have in their busy days to catch some much needed shuteye. While many students schedule their classes to get in and out as quickly as possible, others have no choice but to stay on campus

Hooligans

It’s match day and English football fans from all over Southern California have sailed their way to the Olde Ship British Pub in Santa Ana to root on their favorite football club. As the sun begins to break its way into the Saturday morning sky, cars dash their way into the parking lot of the Olde Ship British Pub and Restaurant anchored at 1120 W. 17th Street in Santa Ana. The noise from inside the pub grows louder as people approach the main door. It sounds like a busy nightclub in downtown Los Angeles. To the right of the door is a giant chalkboard with a list of the day’s matches they will be showing. The anticipation builds in football fans’ minds as they approach the door. In that very moment they set foot in the pub, they leave behind their normal lifestyles and transform into British hooligans, accents and all. “People come from all over, but it doesn’t matter if The Olde Ship
