INTERVIEW Young Dynamic

Photographer

Robert Lourembam

FBM: Please share your whereabouts. I am from Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai, Imphal East, Manipur. FBM: What are the assets necessary to become a photographer? A photographer needs to have certain assets, both tangible as well as intangible. His tangible assets include things like camera equipments and its accessories and studio equipments in some cases. His intangible assets include his passion and spirit into Photography, his formal education, his skills and creativity, and his ability to see a picture in a different Perspective. FBM: What is your best asset? On contrary to what many new photographers believe, the intangible assets are far more influential than the tangible assets. And I would consider my “Eye” and “Passion” as my most powerful and valuable assets, which cannot be bought from any Camera Store in the market. FBM: How did photography first happen to you? Ans:- I ventured into the field of photography some few years back with a Canon Digital Camera. During my childhood days, my family had a Yashica 35mm Film Camera with which most of the time I used to be. Wherever we went, the camera used to be with me taking pictures. Since that time I had been willing to do photography. But because of pressures in

terms of educational matters from my parents and teachers, I couldn’t continue. Then after a decade or so, the spirit within me emerges again. And I started again with a Canon Digital camera which had only 7.1 Mp. I used to carry the camera along with me whenever I went out from home so that not a single desired subject is missed. It was December 2008 when I started my actual journey into Photography systematically with a motive of Promoting my motherland Manipur, capturing its breathtaking scenic beauty, tourist spots and covering other sites of historical importance and exhibiting to the World. FBM: Photography as a means to earn the living is a bit challenging. What do you say? These days, with the boom in advertising, media and the fashion industry Photography is fast emerging as a popular career choice amongst all the age groups. Every field of photography has a good demand at appropriate places. One has to be an expert and unique in his field to take Photography as a profession. Taking it as a career needs a lot of financial support to invest for the equipments required. On the other hand, he has to take care of the family. Balancing the two from the available resources is quite challenging. Moreover, it is not a full time engaged profession for which a return on Investment is assured at certain time periods. But ultimately, hard work associated with thorough knowledge only will lead to great success.
