One hundred sixty-seven years: that is how long Christ has been at work in this community through the body we now call The First Baptist Church of Williams. A lot can happen over that period of time: generations come and go; Christian denominations are created, changed, disappear; technology develops with increasing acceleration; joys and tragedy; triumphs and defeats; laughter and tears. For 167 years this congregation has stood the test of time and continued on in the mission of God, in the calling of Christ to bring the kingdom of God “on earth as it is in heaven.” While we can all look back on our portion of the past 167 years, what if…we looked forward? What if we gazed into the future, the next 167 years? What do you see? Is our church still here? Are we still gathering in a physical space to worship on a regular basis? What does it look like: is it the same, brick building, or is it something new, something more? What about missions: are we still striving to support the work of Christ-called missionaries around the globe? Are we still seeking to meet the needs of people in our community, still striving to eliminate poverty, hunger, and heartache among our most vulnerable neighbors? What does First Baptist Church of Williams look like in the future? What role will you play in pursuing God’s mission in the future of our church? As we look forward to the ways God will move in the future of our church, here are a few ways you can be a part of the present life of our congregation. On Sunday, November 5th, we will have our 167th anniversary celebration and Homecoming. We’ll worship together at 10:00 AM, with guest preacher (and former Pastor) Dr. Barry Howard. Afterwards, we’ll gather in the CMC (gym) for our annual Homecoming lunch and a special “note-burning” celebration to mark the cancellation of our recent debt. On Friday, November 17th at 3:00 P.M., we will have our monthly Food Pantry; if you’d like to help, be at the church around 2:00 P.M. On Wednesday, November 29th, in lieu of our regular Wednesday evening activities, we will meet in the sanctuary to begin decorating for our “Hanging of the Green” service and the beginning of Advent the following Sunday. November marks the beginning of a full season of celebration and anticipation. I hope you’ll find ways to celebrate with your friends and families, and I hope you’ll take the time to thank God for all the blessings you have, but even more, I hope you’ll pray for guidance on how to share those blessings with the world, how to take all that God has given you and use it in fruitful ways to bring God’s kingdom “on earth as it is in heaven.” Grace and Peace, Chris

SPECIAL CALLED BUSINESS MEETING There will be a Special Called Business Meeting on Sunday, November 19th immediately following morning worship. The meeting is for the purpose of voting on the Proposed 2018 Budget submitted by the Finance Committee. Copies of the Proposed Budget are available in the foyers of the church. You are encouraged to pick up a copy to review and address any questions by Sunday, November 12th. Please note: We will not be addressing any questions on November 19th. This date is for voting only.

This month we will be closed on November 10th to observe Veteran’s Day and closed the week of Thanksgiving, November 20th thru 24th! On Thursday, November 16th, we will have our Thanksgiving meal at the daycare. The children will dress for the occasion in Native American and Pilgrim attire. We are blessed at the daycare to have a wonderful group of children and a great staff! Thank you for your continued continued prayers and support!
