“And you will say in that day: Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known his deeds among the nations; proclaim that his name is exalted. 5 Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be known in all the earth. 6 Shout aloud and sing for joy, O royal Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.” -Isaiah 12:4-6 This month (July 17-25), sixteen of us will load up in a concise convoy of a van, pick-ups, and a trailer heading for the Rio Grande Valley along the Mexico/USA border. We will be working with a local congregation there, helping them lead a Vacation Bible School for their community and constructing classrooms for their church building. The Lord’s work in the Valley is obvious as one drives around the different “colonias” (colonias are sub-divided plots of land where families live in pieced-together homes, collapsing trailers, or broke-down campers). In these colonias, congregations have started, and they have become beacons of hope, joy, and faith for the various families struggling in the colonia. The churches that have started there are in large part thanks to the work of Jorge Zapata and his congregation, New Wine Church, in Harlingen, Texas (one of the larger cities in the Valley). Jorge is one of our mission partners, and his organization, Hearts4Kids, helps provide many services and ministries for the families of the Valley. They help provide food and clothing for families; they work to provide safe housing in the colonias; they build beds for children who don’t have one—who’ve likely never had a bed; and through his faithfulness and the faithfulness of those at New Wine Church and their partners, several churches have begun and are growing in the various colonias. I’m excited about our partnership with Jorge, Hearts4Kids, New Wine Church, and Pastor Blanco and Iglesia Bautista Eliacim (the pastor and congregation with whom we’ll be directly working). It’s a partnership we will continue for at least the next three years, as we seek to be encouragers, ministry partners, prayer partners, and faithful friends with our sisters and brothers in the Valley. Join me in praying for our team: Ally Ponder, Ty Green, Jill Green, Nikki Haynes, Wendell McGinnis, Nick Bonds, Lamar Freeman, Chris Thomas, Sallie Thomas, Taylor Cochran, Lori Fincher, Mel Ostrander, Allison Ostrander, Kari Haynes, Al Boozer, and Patsy Boozer. As you can see, we have a great group going this year. Let me encourage you to pray for us, for ways you can help with this year’s trip, and I want to especially encourage you to pray about joining us on the next trip we take in the work of God’s Kingdom. Who knows? Perhaps God may show you something, tell you something, you’d never get to see or hear from where you are. Grace and Peace, Chris
