FROM PASTOR ROSS I am so thankful for the renewal that is beginning to happen in the life of our church. I am thankful for the new people God is bringing, the baptisms, and the continued faithfulness of those who have been here over the years. Here are some updates about two important areas in the life of our church. First, our music minister search committee is making process. Thank you to everyone for providing written input concerning God’s leading in who will be our next music minister. From what we have received from the church and from the input of the committee, there are five themes that have appeared. The five themes include the following: 1. A worship leader who is excited about the opportunity to lead our two different morning worship services. 2. Someone who is musically trained and educated. 3. Someone who is organized in the weekly administrative aspects of music ministry and in planning the service. 4. Someone who has good relationship skills. 5. Someone with a multi-generational focus of music ministry. I am excited about the people God is providing us. Please continue to pray for this process. Secondly, on Thursday, April 17, we closed on the 33 acres on Market St. and 290 across from Tractor Supply. The next step will be for the Facilities Committee to bring forward a recommendation about the marketing, real estate firm we are going to use to put the 51 acres we also own on the market. In the last newsletter, I mentioned the concept of moving forward with a walk by faith, debt-free building approach. At this point, my presenting this concept is to allow for people to think and talk about it. I hope you have some questions and needs for clarification. I am planning some public times to talk about this, but I also want you to feel free to talk to me as well. I welcome your input and questions. I believe God is calling us to walk by faith and that only happens when we sense what God is doing and respond by saying, “If this is going to happen, only God can do it.” There are few things more exciting and faith building than when we see God work in this way. My prayer is that as we go forward with the relocation, we will see God work in such a way that we will be able say, “Only God could have done that!” Thank you for allowing me to be your pastor.

-Ross

A LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Dear Friends, As I write to you today I am enjoying our beautiful flower displays this spring. It brings me back to 1984 when we were at my home in Austin visiting my mom and step father at Easter. On Saturday of that weekend my step father died unexpectedly. We could tell the night before that he was having trouble breathing so my sister-in-law took all of the grandkids to her sister’s home to spend the night. Mom’s home was just a two bedroom home and there were about thirteen of us there. The next morning my step father died. We called my sister-in-law and she was going to bring the kids later in the day after everything was settled at mom’s. My son was nine at the time. He asked his aunt if he could pick some bluebonnets to bring to his mom. She let him pick a few and when they came to mom’s, he brought them to me and he told me “I know you love these so I hope they make you not so sad.” That has always stuck with me through good times and bad times. I hope we always try to show joy to those around us. Joy will show on your face and be passed on to others. This is one of my favorite mother stories I have had with my children. I am sure we all have stories of ourselves with our mothers we could share. My favorite story was after I was grown with grown children when my mother was visiting me and we were in a fabric store in Houston. A little girl would giggle every time we passed her cart and I would tell her hello. In a little bit the mom let her out of the cart and she would walk around and hide behind the fabric draping down then play peek-a-boo. My mom looked at me and said I knew you liked teaching small kids, I just never realized how much they loved you. You don’t even know that child and look at her playing with you. I guess that is the one compliment that my mom gave to me that meant the most to me. Our mothers for the most part are all gone on to their heavenly home, but we can still be grateful for them and what they taught us as kids. We need to ask ourselves if we are giving a great example to our grandkids and great grandkids at this point. I hope you are enjoying the newsletter in combination with the church newsletter. We will now have the newsletter year round with this new setup. As I close remember this thought - “Happiness is not perfected until it is shared.” Go share some happiness and joy today. Happy Mothers Day to all of our mothers reading this today. Blessings, Reba Pair 9

STUDENT MINISTRY I can’t believe that we are coming to the end of another school year! The month of May will be filled with end of school testing, Graduation, and graduation parties. Then summer will be firing up with vacations, camps, and summer fun. My first full school year at Brenham’s FBC has been full of great memories. It started out with Friday night lights which lasted until December with the State Game. I enjoyed going out to support our many Cubs in their different events - Football, Band, Volleyball, Tennis, Swimming, Drama, Baseball, Soccer, and many more… Life here in Brenham is full of excitement. Something I’ve really been enjoying and you may not be aware of unless you worship with us at ALL IN on Wednesday is that some of our students have been bringing the message at Bible Study and helping to lead during worship. I can’t tell you what joy it brings to my heart to see students stepping up and out for the Lord. Something else we’ve been doing this year at ALL IN is providing a meal for the students. We have several students who don’t get a chance to go home between school and arriving at the Student Center. Bobbye and I are always so appreciative of parents who step up with time and generosity to lend us a hand, provide food items and help serve. We are especially grateful to Leah Oehrlein who has graciously and generously provided meals twice a month for the entire school year. Over the years we have seen how hospitality is more than just free food - it’s serving our students with love while meeting physical need which opens the door for spiritual ministry. As we get ready for the summer would you join me in prayer over our students and the many more that may not be a part yet. My prayer is that God would raise up a group of youth that love the Lord and each other. It is not about what we want to see happen and done but, about what He wants to do here. Please pray with me that the Lord have His way with our students and our lives. In Him, - Bro. Chad

We are looking for someone who has a desire to teach 11th & 12th grade Sunday School class. Please contact Chad Marrs if interested

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY BFBC Kids Klub Monthly Virtue: Endurance Sticking with what you started even when it gets tough. “and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” -Galatians 2:20 Recently two men of God that I have respected have battled with cancer. One lost the battle last Saturday, and one is currently at home under hospice care. Their lives have been a testimony for God’s work in the life of a man surrendered to His will. As I have been praying for the last miles of their journey to eternity, their impending physical deaths have taught me a lesson about my spiritual death. I have prayed that they would relax and be at peace as they lay their lives in God’s hands to enter His kingdom. Then, it hit me. These men already surrendered their lives in His hands when they decided to follow Him. Unconsciously, I have been living as one in control of my own steps and actions. I have not been surrendered like a hammer in the hand of a carpenter. Galatians 2:20 says that when we surrender to Christ we no longer live. Instead God lives through us. I have tried to do what I don’t have the ability to do. However, God can do all things – even through a dead man. So, it only makes sense to allow Him to live in us and not try to work out of our inability. Lord, please allow me to be dead in your hands. Allow me to rest in You. Change my heart and mind to be more concerned about walking and talking with You, and not waking up to thoughts of my “To-do” list. You lived and died and lived again to give me life. Please shape my life for Your purposes. It’s Yours anyway. Give me peace as I give my life to You today. Remind me what is really important – knowing You, and loving others as myself. -Bro. Alex Thanks to Nicole Morrison, Kelley Sikes, Aleta Thistlethwaite, Delores Hammargren, Kristen Crady & Heather Kirby for your excellence to teach our kids on Sunday morning. Also to Luis & Kristie Mendoza for your fantastic and fun teaching on Wednesday night. And to deacons Jessie Ladd, Roger Atkins & Gregg Workman for substituting to teach the Wednesday Night Kidz, and their assistants Kristen Crady and Kacy Kuespert.

PRESCHOOL MINISTRIES SUNDAY MORNINGS IN MAY Basic Truth: God made me. Key Question: Who will take care of you? Bottom Line: God will take care of me. Memory Verse: “My God will meet all your needs.” Phil. 4:19 NIrV “My God will meet all my needs,” (Philippians 4:19, NIrV). What a powerful thought. God will meet all our needs. Notice the verse says needs not wants. That’s hard for adults to remember, even more for preschoolers. So this month, we will talk about our basic needs and stories where God provided. We start the month with a great story. Jesus tells us not to worry (something I need to hear often) because if God provides for the birds and the flowers, won’t He do even more for you? I love the simple beauty of His provision. The kids will then hear about Elijah, both how God provided ravens to feed him in the wilderness and the widow with what she needed to make bread for him and her family. These are great stories to show how God provides for our basic needs. Finally, we’ll tell the story of Abraham, and how he trusted God to provide for him even when God asked him to move and promised what he couldn’t believe. God will meet all my needs. That’s the truth, friends. You better believe it. - Stacey Strickland BABY DEDICATION ON SUNDAY, MAY 11TH We are excited to see all of the new little ones in our church! The Lord Makes All Things New!

FROM TROY’S HEART Preparation should lead to expectation. Let me explain by examples. • If I prepare my mind for a test, I should expect to do well. • If I prepare my body for a physical action, my expectation is to succeed. • If I prepare a financially sound budget, I expect to have my financial goals met. Preparation usually determines the level of our expectation. However, the reverse isn’t always true. Expectations do not always lead to preparation. Again, more examples. • I may expect to pass a test, but do not prepare proper notes to study. • I may expect to run faster than last year’s race, but fail to prepare my body by training faster than last year. • I may expect to have money at the end of the month, but fail to prepare my financial obligations. All of this leads me to these questions: What are our spiritual expectations? What will we do to prepare ourselves to see those expectations met? Our faith should lead us to spiritual preparation. Spiritual growth and experience comes with a spiritual preparation. When we come to worship on Sunday, have we prepared ourselves spiritually? When we come to small group Bible Study, have we prepared ourselves to listen and obey? If we haven’t, we probably should not expect much to occur spiritually, should we? Let’s get into the spiritual preparation habit and see what God can do! Read I Kings 18:17-39 and see how Elijah prepared for an expected move of God. I love you, Troy 15
