Prepping and Priming

Before you play with colour, you can transform your skin into a beautiful “canvas” with a few basic skin care and priming steps.

Cleansing The first step to a beautiful face is a consistent skin care regimen. With proper skin care, your foundation will look its best. Be sure to cleanse twice a day – in the morning and before bed – with a cleanser designed for your skin type. Avoid going to bed with makeup still on your face.

Moisturising Moisturising restores balance to your skin. It’s important to use a moisturiser designed for your skin type. Massage moisturiser into your skin and let it absorb before applying anything else. Applying colour immediately after moisturising can result in a streaky finish.

Priming Foundation primer helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and imperfections and helps extend foundation wear. You may even find that you use less foundation when you use a primer. TO APPLY: Apply before foundation to the T-zone area, which is the forehead, nose and chin area, blending outward to the edges of the face.

“You need a good canvas, and you need to prep that canvas. You can’t really expect something without prepping your skin. Makeup isn’t magic.” – Charlie Green, Mary Kay Global Makeup Artist

What is your skin type?

Picking the Right Foundation Shade Try to match your natural skin tone as closely as possible. The best way to find the perfect foundation shade is to do the stripe test: • Swipe foundation from cheek to jawline. If the foundation seems to disappear, then you’ve found your shade. • View in natural light if possible. • When in doubt, go for a light or midtone shade. You can always lighten or bronze if needed.

4

Mixing Shades If you can’t find the shade you think is best, you can mix your own. This works best with liquid foundation. Mix the shades in the palm of your hand and apply with a Mary Kay® Liquid Foundation Brush. TIP: If you have foundation left over, add to your concealer and use on the areas that need extra coverage. This helps create a more natural-looking finish. Makeup artists today suggest applying foundation before perfecters, like facial highlighting pens and concealers, to get the most natural-looking finish.

Product Recommendation TimeWise® Matte-Wear™ Liquid Foundation APPLICATION: Use a Mary Kay® Liquid Foundation Brush to dab foundation in short, quick strokes onto face, starting in the middle of the face and brushing out toward the edges of the face.

TimeWise® Luminous-Wear™ Liquid Foundation APPLICATION: Use a Mary Kay® Liquid Foundation Brush to dab foundation in short, quick strokes onto face, starting in the middle of the face and brushing out toward the edges of the face.

Mary Kay® Creme-to-Powder Foundation APPLICATION: Starting in the middle of the face, press and pat with a sponge to the edges of the face. You also can apply with fingertips and then blend with a sponge.

Mary Kay® Mineral Powder Foundation APPLICATION: Apply using the Mary Kay® Mineral Foundation Brush in a round, swirly motion. Start in the middle of your face and work to the edges.

Mary Kay® CC Cream Sunscreen SPF 15 APPLICATION: Use fingertips to apply to the center of the face and blend outward and upward, toward the hairline and along the jawline.

TIP: Remind your customers that CC cream is great for young women just starting to use cosmetics and for those who prefer a natural look.

FLAWLESS FACE

Perfecters Perfect your flawless face to help it appear its most youthful. Start by lifting away shadows and concealing imperfections.

Facial Highlighting Pen Help optically “lift” shadowy areas of the face to add brightness and radiance instantly. Shadows can make areas on the face appear sunken, swollen or saggy and even older. TO APPLY: Turn the tip clockwise to release product. If you release too much product, you can brush it onto the top of your hand and then apply brush to your face. Use the pen’s brush to apply lightly to the shadowy areas of the face, then blend with your finger or a sponge.

For shadowy areas

Apply to inner corners of eyes, outer edge of the nose and under the lower lip in a downward and outward motion.

For puffy eyes

Apply just below the puffy area, only highlighting the shadow under the puffiness (not the puffy area) to “lift” it and make the area appear more flat. Then use your ring finger to lightly pat the edges to blend.

14

Mary Kay® Facial Highlighting Pen

Concealer For areas of the face that need additional coverage. TO APPLY: Use a concealer brush, a sponge or your finger. With a sponge or finger, use a dabbing motion instead of a swiping motion, which can actually remove concealer. Dabbing to blend helps create a smooth, flawless finish. With a brush, use small strokes.

Mary Kay® Concealer

For harder-to-conceal areas like blemishes, use the following steps: FOR AGE SPOTS Blend concealer in with your natural skin tone by concentrating it on the discoloured area. Apply it to the spot only and gently pat with your finger to blend. FOR BLEMISHES Apply a light “veil” of concealer directly to the blemish and use your ring finger to lightly pat around the edges to blend. Add a second layer if needed. FOR DARK CIRCLES UNDER THE EYE Apply concealer at the edge of the dark area and extend up. Never go below the dark area or you’ll lighten the skin you’re trying to match. Be sure to include the inside corner of the eyes and eyelids if necessary. For serious dark circles, you can use a concealer one or two shades lighter than your skin’s natural tone.

TIP: Offer your customer the concealer shade that best matches her natural skin tone. She can mix it with her liquid foundation for a perfect match.

Expert Extra

Facial Highlighting Pen vs. Concealer A highlighting pen illuminates or draws an area or feature forward on the face. Concealer is best for covering scars and blemishes.

15

FLAWLESS FACE

Finishers Every flawless face needs a few finishing touches.

Powder Help “set” makeup, reduce shine and create a matte finish. • Translucent loose powder is great for any skin tone. • Pressed powder can be applied lightly or pressed into skin for more coverage and also is portable when carried in the Mary Kay® Compact. TO APPLY: Use downward strokes from forehead to the chin and out to edges of the face. You also can apply to the eye area and around the nose with a clean Mary Kay® Eye Colour Brush.

For translucent loose powder Mary Kay® Translucent Loose Powder

Dip or dust Mary Kay® Powder Brush into powder and tap off the excess. Use a very light hand in applying. The powder brush distributes powder evenly over the face without concentrating in any one area.

For pressed powder Sweep brush or sponge across powder and dust onto skin. Remember to apply in light layers and build to the matte finish you want. For more intense coverage, swipe sponge across powder and press sponge onto skin, especially concentrating on the forehead, nose and chin.

Customise Your Finish Apply any or all of these finishers after applying foundation or CC cream.

16

Concealer

Facial Highlighting Pen

Powder

Cheek Colour

Bronzing Powder

to add contours and dimension.

Highlighting Powder

to add luminosity.

Cheek Colour CHOOSING COLOUR: Choose a shade that is similar to your natural blushing skin tone. CHOOSING FORMULA: Mineral cheek colour is sheer and buildable. Mineral cheek colour leaves a matte or shimmery finish, depending on the shade. TIP: The key to enhancing a woman’s beauty comes from knowing where to apply cheek colour for her face shape.

TO APPLY: Cheek colour should be applied last, after powder, to give your look a healthy glow. When applying cheek colour, the goal is to achieve a radiant finish, not a concentrated area of colour that can look severe. Start cheek colour application on the apples of the cheeks (the fullest part of the cheek when you smile) and extend along cheekbones.

Mary Kay® Mineral Cheek Color

For mineral cheek colour Start by sweeping a Mary Kay® Cheek Brush lightly through colour and tap off excess. Apply colour in a circular motion across the cheekbones. Use light layers to build the radiance you like.

Finishing Spray As a final step, makeup finishing spray keeps makeup looking freshly applied for hours. Works on any skin type. TO APPLY: Shake bottle well. Close eye, and hold bottle 8 to10 inches from face. Mist face 2 to 4 times in an “X” formation.

“Makeup finishing spray is especially great for weddings, photos, a night out.” – Keiko Takagi, Mary Kay Global Makeup Artist

Basic Contouring Contouring adds shadow to the face to help create dimension. An easy way to contour is to just focus on highlighting your face, instead of trying to master applying a light and a dark powder to the face.

Contouring by Face Shapes Accentuate your unique facial features with these easy contour steps from Mary Kay Global Makeup Artist Diana Carreiro.

Square With strong facial features, this face shape is of equal width at the forehead, cheek and chin.

Soften the “corners of the face with bronzing powder dusted along upper sides of forehead and sides of the jawline.

Oval This symmetrical face shape can experiment with different applications.

For a standard application, see Pages 18 and 19.

20

Bronzing Powder Highlighting Powder Cheek Colour

Heart-Shaped This face shape features a forehead that is wider than the chin, and the chin tapers to a narrow point. Contour the sides of the temples under the cheekbones with bronzing powder to help the face appear more narrow. Highlight the top and sides of the chin to help it appear wider. Sweep cheek colour to center of cheeks, just below the pupils of the eyes and sweep back toward hairline.

Round A round face features shorter, wider, full cheeks.

To help the face appear more narrow, contour the edges of the face with bronzing powder. Apply cheek colour in a 45째 angle to accentuate cheekbone structure.

Apply two foundation shades.

Apply concealer.

Finish with highlighting powder.

• Apply foundation all over face in a shade that matches skin tone.

With the Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color/Concealer Brush, apply concealer to facial areas that you’d like to accentuate:

• Hold the Mary Kay® Cheek Brush or Mary Kay® Kabuki Brush by the base of the bristles to make it a little tighter. Apply highlighting powder to the nose and the top of cheekbones. Apply in sweeping motions rather than a circular, swirling motion.

• Then apply foundation that is one to three shades darker than your natural shade to the outer areas of the face in a “3” formation, using a Mary Kay® Foundation Brush. See diagram. • Blend well. • Also apply contouring foundation shade to the nose for a narrow look. Holding the Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color/Concealer Brush like a pencil, draw two lines down the bridge of the nose. Blend with feathering strokes down the sides of the nose, until the lines seem to disappear. See Page 10 for foundation shade selection.

• the bridge of the nose • inner corners of the eyes • outer corners of the nose • along the cupid’s bow of the upper lip • under the bottom lip in the crease of the chin • along the top of the cheekbones • just under the arches of the eyebrows

• Then release your grip on the bristles, and blend by holding the brush as usual. • You also can use the Mary Kay® Eye Crease Brush to accent smaller areas like the brow bone, the bridge of the nose, the cupid’s bow of the upper lip and the chin.

TIP

Liquid Foundation Brush Use the Mary Kay Liquid Foundation Brush first to apply the different shades of foundation and then buff out both shades using the mineral foundation brush. This can be a great way to give your face a very natural-looking contour. ®

COLOUR BASICS

Easy Colour Selection Understanding the colour wheel is a great start to knowing how to recommend colours to your customers. Here’s your guide to colour selection made easy.

Have a Quick Conversation

STEP 1

Do you want to pick eye shades based on your eye colour?

OR

Note: if you have beautiful brown eyes, you’re lucky! See page 44 for shade picks.

STEP 2

Do you want to add a pop of colour for contrast?

STEP 3

On the colour wheel, find colours opposite your selection.

Example: If you choose green because you have green eyes, you will see that red is its complementary colour. So you would want to try red-based hues like earthy browns, purples, rust or bronze.

26

Colours across the wheel are known as complementary colours.

Do you want to pick eye shades based on your favourite shade family? Some women are just drawn to a certain colour or shade family.

OR

Do you want a natural look?

On the colour wheel, find colours immediately left or right of your selection.

Example: If you choose green because you have green eyes, you will see that blue and yellow are adjacent colours. So you would want to try bluebased or golden yellow shades.

Colours next door are known as adjacent colours.

How colour wheel shades translate to real eye colour shades. Keep in mind that the colour wheel represents the general shade family or colour undertone of the eye colour you should select.

Brushes 28

Whether you’re new to makeup or have been playing with colour for years, professional-quality brushes help any makeup lover apply colour with precision for a more polished look. Investing in a great set of brushes can actually save your customers time and help create the very best results.

WHY INVEST IN BRUSHES? “Every woman needs a brush set. Brushes are tools, and if you let them do their jobs, you whole makeup application will be easier.” – Luis Casco, Mary Kay Global Makeup Artist

29

BRUSHES

How to Use The way to a perfect finish is to start with the perfect brush. Use these easy application steps to create beautiful makeup looks like a professional.

It’s in the bag One of the best features of the Mary Kay® Brush Collection is that it comes in the custom Mary Kay® Cosmetic Organiser Bag, so you can just roll up your makeup brush collection and go! It’s even roomy enough to add your Mary Kay® Compact, lip gloss, mascara, other makeup applicators and more!

THE MARY KAY BRUSH COLLECTION ®

Mary Kay® Cheek Brush Domed, natural bristles are ideal for sweeping colour along cheekbones. HOW TO USE: Swirl cheek colour in a circular motion along the cheekbones, starting at the apples of the cheeks. You can also use this brush to apply mineral highlighting powder along the top of the cheekbones. “For more intense colour, hold the brush tightly just at the base of the hair of the brush. This creates a denser brush for colour application. Once colour is applied, hold brush as usual and blend cheek colour as usual.” - Luis Casco, Mary Kay Global Makeup Artist.

30

Mary Kay® Powder Brush Bristle design provides even application of loose and pressed powders to help “set” foundation and to apply bronzer to contour the face. Bigger brushes help with easy blending. HOW TO USE: Use to apply powder all over the face, starting in the T-zone and dusting outward to the edge of the face. You also can use this brush to apply power or bronzer to the décolleté area.

Mary Kay® Eye Colour Brush Natural bristles help allow even application and beautiful blending of Mary Kay® Mineral Eye Colour. Great for basic colour application and blending. HOW TO USE: Use to apply Mary Kay® Mineral Eye Colour first to the area of the eye you want to accentuate the most colour (lashline or outer corners of eyes), and then blend into the larger eyelid area. It’s important to clean this brush often, since you use multiple eye colours daily.

Mary Kay® Eye Crease Brush Tapered, natural bristles help provide precise application for depth and definition along eye crease. Great for contouring the eyelid and for creating smoky effects. HOW TO USE: Apply mineral eye colour, starting in the outer crease and sweep colour inward. Use the tip of the brush to add brightening highlights to the inner corners of the eyes.

Mary Kay® Eyeliner/Eyebrow Brush Firm, angled bristles of the eyeliner brush allow controlled definition of lashlines or brows and to create a softened eyeliner application with mineral eye colour; stiff bristles of the eyebrow brush side help tame hairs and helps to set eyebrows in place. Mini comb helps to remove mascara clumps in lashes. HOW TO USE: Use to apply mineral eye colour along lash lines or to as a brow powder along natural brow line with short, feathering strokes. Or use to smudge eyeliner for a softer-looking finish.

BRUSHES

Essentials to Customise Your Collection Mary Kay Global Makeup Artist Luis Casco shares his insights on why these are a great investment to add to the brush collection.

Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color/Concealer Brush* Rounded, synthetic bristles are designed to provide better coverage of cream-based colour and are soft to the touch. HOW TO USE: Concealer: Apply small amount of concealer to back of hand. Dip brush in product. Use the tip to cover tiny imperfections and use the flat end to help cover larger areas. Blend. Remember: a little concealer can go a long way. WHY YOU WANT IT: “The way that the brush is shaped, it allows you to go in these hard to reach areas and to get really close under your eyes. By using concealer with this brush, this allows you to get close to the eye so that you look like you actually slept for hours. Another way to use this brush is with cream eye color. If you want an even stronger statement, pat on cream eye colour.” – Luis Casco, Mary Kay Global Makeup Artist

Mary Kay® Eye Smudger Brush Short, dense bristles help allow you to smudge eyeliner or eye colour perfectly along lashline for a beautiful, smoky effect. WHY YOU WANT IT: “Using this brush is my favorite way to deepen a smoky eye and look like you’ve spent hours trying to blend eye shadow. It really gives you that control, that ability to apply the colour right where you want most of the drama. And then in a very controlled way, blend.” – Luis Casco, Mary Kay Global Makeup Artist

To blend eyeliner and create a smoky effect, blend along lashlines with a soft, back-andforth motion.

32

To add drama, sweep eye color to eyelid with upward strokes, concentrating color near lashlines. Blend with upward strokes until achieve desired effect.

Mary Kay® Liquid Foundation Brush Synthetic bristles are designed for use with any Mary Kay® liquid foundation to ensure smooth application. HOW TO USE: Start at the center of your face, at the nose or forehead. Use broad, even strokes, to work out to hairline and chin to sweep and blend the makeup. Be sure to blend upward, in the forhead area, so by the time it gets to your hairline, it sort of disappears and appears more natural. For the rest of the face, apply in a general downward motion to help any small hairs lie flat. WHY YOU WANT IT: “By applying your makeup with a foundation brush, you’re going to use a lot less than you normally would if you applied it some other way. I always like to take what’s left on the brush and sort of run it down the neck just to make sure that everything is blended and that you have a perfect canvas.” Luis Casco, Mary Kay Global Makeup Artist

Mary Kay® Mineral Foundation Brush Natural bristles grab onto Mary Kay® Mineral Powder Foundation for even distribution over the face. HOW TO USE: Lightly dip mineral powder brush into the powder and tap against the rim of the jar to remove any excess. Apply starting in the center of the face, working outward in a circular motion. Blend well. WHY YOU WANT IT: “This is a really cool brush that I love. It’s so easy to apply your mineral powder foundation. You can also use this brush on its own to buff out makeup after you’ve applied it.” - Luis Casco, Mary Kay Global Makeup Artist

Expert Extra

Don’t forget to clean your brushes! Brushes can gather makeup, oil and dead skin cells. A good rule is to clean your brushes often to help keep them performing like new.

*For hygienic reasons, it is recommended to dedicate one brush for use with cream eye colour and one brush for use with concealer.

From basic to colourfully expressive, eye makeup can take your total look to the next level. Need to shake up a tired look? Add a pop of eye colour. Go for exaggerated lashes. Welldefined brows are an instant face lift. These insider tips and simplified howtos make made-over eyes easy.

“Makeup is the ultimate accessory. If it’s not permanent, it’s no big deal, so why not try something new. It’s an inexpensive way to change things up. It’s like reading a new book. It’s a little pick me up.” – Charlie Green, Mary Kay Global Makeup Artist

EYES

Eyeliner Thick or thin. Liquid, pencil or powder. Every day or dramatic application. Eyeliner is a versatile, fun and easy way to experiment with colour to update or create a new look.

EASY EYELINER APPLICATION Draw a line across the lashline (upper or lower) in the thickness desired. An easy way to do this is to draw three short interconnecting lines across the lashline instead of one continuous line. Then you can connect or blend the line with a thin, angled brush, a sponge-tip applicator or your finger. To create a thicker line, simply repeat this process.

TIP: For eyes with a vanishing lid common in Asian women, apply a lighter shade of eyeliner or eye colour to the lower lashline to help eyes appear more open.

Three Ways to Line Eyes:

1 2 3 38

Pencil = Defined line Pencils create a defined line so you have flexibility to draw a thick or thin line. They also have intense colour pigment so the colour will be rich when applied.

Liquid = Dramatic line For precise lining that can be more dramatic, liquid is an easy way to achieve the look you want. You can add a winged tip on the edge by gently ticking up the line at the outer edge. TIPS: You may find it useful to draw your line in pencil and trace over the same line with liquid or gel liner. You can keep eye makeup remover nearby with a cotton swab to gently remove any mistakes. It’s best to not apply liquid eyeliner on the lower lashline as it can make eyes look narrow. Instead, line the lower lashline with a pencil or let the lower lashline go without eyeliner altogether. * Mary Kay® Liquid EyeLiner Pen will be available from Nov 1, 2014

Mineral Eye Colour = Blended line Using the Mary Kay® Eyeliner/Eyebrow Brush, an angled flat brush, you can apply any shade of mineral eye colour as eyeliner. It’s fun to blend mineral eye colours over other eyeliner formulas to create rich effects or new colour creations. When using along lower lashline, diffuse colour with eye colour brush for a softened look.

Selling Tip: The good news is that eyeliner colours work on everyone! In fact, eyeliner is an easy way to introduce your customer to a new shade or update her look. If she always wears black eyeliner, suggest another shade like violet ink, dark denim or even deep brown. 39

Helpful Tips

Neutrals work anywhere on the eye and are perfect for blending with looks to create dimension.

FIND BALANCE

Deep and dark shades work best as accent colours in eye creases, along lashlines and for smoky effects. Light and shimmery shades are great for highlighting inner corners of eyes, along brow bones or blended with other colours for illuminating effects. Vibrant shades add a fun touch to eye colour and can be worn all over eyelids or just as accents. For more colour selection ideas, see Page 28.

When in doubt, stick to one bold colour and mix it with neutrals for colour balance. BLEND, BLEND, BLEND It’s key for a seamless finish that looks best. TERRIFIC TOOLS Use makeup brushes for best application. TRY BEFORE SHE BUYS The Mary KayŽ Virtual Makeover is an excellent way for your customers to try new shades. Eye Shapes Offer eye shape application tips from Mary Kay Global

TIP:

Makeup Artist Diana Carreiro.

When in doubt, recommend the standard eye application to your customers.

Standard Eyes

DEFINITION Eyes that are about one eye width apart. If applying three shades, add a midtone shade as a wash all over eyelid and blend well with a clean Mary Kay速 Eye Color Brush. The goal is to seamlessly blend shades but continue to maintain the definition and accents created from your highlighting and contour shades.

DEFINITION Eyes with an eyelid that is not readily seen.

Hooded Eyes

Apply contour shade along the top of the entire length of the eye crease and blend upward almost to the brow. This will add dimension to the eyes and give the illusion of a deeper eye crease.

If applying three shades, add a midtone shade along browbone, blending well.

Wide-Set Eyes

DEFINITION Eyes that are more than one eye width apart. To help eyes appear closer together, apply the contour shade from inner corner of the eyes, extend up to eye crease and sweep along eye crease just to outer edge of eye and along lashline. Do not extend past the outer edge of the lashline. Then add contour shade along entire lower lashline. If applying three shades, follow the guidelines for standard eye application. It is important to remember to not apply colour beyond the outer edge of eyelid for best effect.

46

Lightest shade. Used to brighten eyes. A medium-range shade to help blend eye colour shades. (Usually a neutral shade.) Deepest or darkest shade. Used to create depth to eyes.

DEFINITION Eyes that are set deep with a prominent brow bone.

Deep-Set Eyes

With the contour shade, trace a line from inner corner of the eye crease to the brow bone. Continue applying along brow bone and finish by applying under outer lower third of the lashline. Blend well.

If applying three shades, apply the contour shade to entire eyelid and add a midtone shade to the browbone, just above the eye crease.

Close-Set Eyes

DEFINITION Eyes that are less than one eye width apart. Apply the contour shade, only to the outer corners, in a softly blended triangle shape. This helps the eyes appear further apart. Blend contour shade along outer lower third of lashes. If applying three shades, follow the guidelines for standard eye application. It is important to remember to concentrate darkest shades at the outer edges of the eyes.

DEFINITION Eyes with a vanishing eyelid, commonly appearing in Asian eyes, appear as a flat surface when closed due to a lack of a natural crease.

Single Eyelid Eyes

Similar to the standard application, apply contour shade in a large sideways “V shape, starting from the inner eye corner, just above the eye crease and sweeping back to outer third of upper lashline. Then sweep contour along the outer third of the lower lashline. This will create the illusion of a larger eyelid.

If applying three shades, apply to the a midtone along the brow bone.

Apply Amber blaze mineral eye colour with the eye colour brush starting at the lashline and blend to just above the crease Intensifying it as necessary to define the eye shape. Apply Black eyeliner to upper lashline and soften by applying Amber blaze mineral eye colour over eyeliner with the eyeliner/eyebrow brush. Then apply Amber blaze to lower lashline with the eyeliner/eyebrow brush. Use the eye colour brush to blend both lashlines. Finish with mascara.

TWO-SHADE APPLICATION

3 step 4 step

Apply Moonstone mineral eye colour to entire eyelid as a base with the eye color brush. Blend Chocolate Kiss mineral eye colour from lashline to just above the crease with the eye crease brush, intensifying colour in the outer corners of the eyes. Also apply Chocolate Kiss to lower lashline with the eyeliner/eyebrow brush. Apply Black eyeliner to upper lashline and soften with eyeliner/eyebrow brush. Finish with mascara.

ASIAN EYE COLOUR APPLICATION

1 step 2 step 3 step

Apply a highlighter shade to brow bone, from the inner corner of the eye and sweeping out. Also apply to lower lashline. Apply a second shade to the entire lid, blending with highlighter shade.

Apply a third shade as an accent to the crease, starting at the outer corner of the eye and finishing two-thirds of the way toward the inner eye. You want to keep the inner eye area lighter and emphasise the crease with a darker shade to help create the illusion of a more pronounced eyelid.

The Bright Eye Make eyes sparkle with an eye look that is perfect for anytime, especially for weddings or daytime special events.

“The best way to create a brighter eye is to use lighter colours with a little bit of sparkle to create reflective highlights. Concentrate on the inner corners of the eyes as well as right on the brow bone Apply Silver Satin mineral eye colour from lashline to just above the crease of the eye and along the lower lashline as close to the lash base as possible. The metallic flecks add reflective light to the eyes. Add Black eyeliner on the upper lashline. Use the eye smudger brush to soften and then reapply eyeliner as needed to deepen the look. Apply two coats of Mary Kay® Ultimate Mascara™ in Black.

Apply facial highlighting pen as a finishing touch to the inner corners of the eyes.

Blend Crystalline mineral eye colour with the eye crease brush along the inner corners of the eyes for an even stronger brightening effect.

5

Apply Moonstone mineral eye colour with a tapping motion with the eye colour brush from lashline to the crease. Even though it is a powder this application makes it easier to “pack” the colour right on the eyelid. You want maximum gold shine here.

step

6

Next, apply Peacock Blue mineral eye color in the crease starting heavy at the outer corner and blending in. I like to start with almost a line right at the crease and blending from there, blend and then blend again! Use the eye color brush to blend it all well.

step

7

To finish, apply Azure mineral eye color along the lower lashline with the Eyeliner/Eyebrow Brush.

Then add a bit of Peacock Blue mineral eye colour right at the corner and blend into Azure mineral eye colour. This adds depth and brings all the colours together beautifully.

Finish with Black gel eyeliner. Begin with a very thin line at the inner eye corner and widen to a thicker line at the outer corner. You can wing the gel eyeliner slightly at the outer corner for even more drama.

Add Mary Kay® Ultimate Mascara™ in Black.

TIP: To make sure everything is blended really well, lightly dust a clean powder brush over the eyelids a couple of times.

Lips have all the fun! From natural and nude to bright and colourful, lip colour is one of the easiest ways to play with makeup.

LIPS

The Red Lip Look Classic and iconic. This easy application helps you get the perfect red lip.

“The red lip is a classic look that never goes away, but you have to know how to make it modern. I suggest making the rest of your face less bold so it doesn’t compete with your lips. Also opt for a luminous foundation and use just a little powder.” – Keiko Takagi, Mary Kay Global Makeup Artist

Apply clear lip liner to natural lip line. You can fill in the entire lip to help lip colour last longer. Clear lip liner is perfect for bold lip colours because it works with any lip colour and helps to keep it from bleeding. Dark lip liners can end up making lip lines looking overdrawn or obvious. Apply red lipstick with a brush, starting in the middle of the lower lip and slowly working out toward the outer edges. You can use the Mary Kay® Concealer/Cream Eye Brush, but remember: never use this brush with eye product without washing first.

Correct any stray or crooked edges with a cotton swab.

Updates are easy. • Recommend changing her usual pink cheek colour to a bronze. • Recommend dark denim or violet eyeliner instead of traditional black or brown. • If she uses gloss every day, suggest she try a lipstick instead. • A fan of mineral eye colours? Look

Younger With Makeup

66

A woman’s age is her secret. Keeping it a secret is easy when she follows these simple guidelines for wearing colour flawlessly – no matter her age. SKIN CARE MATTERS. A consistent, advanced age-fighting skin care regimen is key for keeping skin looking its best.

Choose Colours With Confidence. EYES: Neutral eye colours are always flattering. In general, women with fine lines should be selective when wearing shimmer shades. For example, wear it only as a highlight on the eye.

LIPS: Medium-bright or complexion-compatible shades help make lips look younger. Pinks, peaches or watermelon shades look great with silver hair. Avoid stark, bright shades or very pale neutral shades – both can leave your complexion looking faded. Avoid lots of shimmer in lip colour.

CHEEKS: To achieve a natural, youthful glow, try soft, warm shades. Avoid shimmer that can accentuate fine lines.

Application Tips. FOUNDATION/CONCEALER:

Too much product of any sort can settle into fine lines and wrinkles. Always apply lightly and build to the coverage you like. When in doubt, use less.

EYES: • Curling lashes helps to open the eyes. Apply two light coats of mascara rather than one heavy coat. • Apply soft, neutral eyeliners close to upper lashline only, avoiding the lower lashline. Smudge with a brush, sponge-tip applicator or cotton swab. • For lower lashline, use mineral eye colour instead of eyeliner. Harsh lines along the lower lashline can draw attention to fine lines.

LIPS: • Apply lip liner, such as Mary Kay® Lip Liner in Clear, along natural lip line. Lip liner help prevent lip colour from bleeding or feathering.

CHEEKS: • A tip to keep cheek colour natural is to dip cheek brush in mineral cheek colour, then lightly dip in loose powder before applying.

After applying foundation, bronzing powder, highlighting powder and cheek colour, highlight your eyes with Honey Spice mineral eye colour applied to the inner corners of the eyes and the brow bones. Next, tap Sweet plum mineral eye colour into the eye creases with the Mary Kay® Eye Smudger Brush and blend along lower lashlines. Then blend colours with a clean Mary Kay® Eye Crease Brush. Apply Deep Brown eyeliner along upper and lower lashlines, tapering off the line toward the inner eye. Your eyeliner should appear thicker on the outer corners of the eye to help define eyes. Repeat eye colour steps, if needed, to build to the dramatic colour you want. Finish eyes with Ultimate Mascara™ in Black. You can start with Mary Kay® Lash Primer to help your lash look last. Balance your smoky eye look with Soft Blush lip liner, Pink Shimmer creme lipstick and Au Naturel lip gloss. Make your whole look last with Mary Kay® Makeup Finishing Spray. Spray in a “X” pattern across the face and then down the middle of the face.

“When you want to keep the focus on your eyes, wear soft lip colours to enhance your lips but keep the look balanced. Lining lips also adds definition which complements a smokey eye look.” – Diana Carreiro, Mary Kay Global Makeup Artist
