Inspired by European vacations in zesty, soft sunshine, Kookai's SS16/17 collection welcomes the season of rejuvenation with bare shoulders, figure hugging pieces and alluring cut outs.

The collection proves that pastel tones can still make a bold impact, and when paired with a bronze glow the colours will subtly pop like nothing else.

Celebrate spring with statement, eclectic patterns, or opt for a subtle approach with classic, soft stripes.

If you love the pastel trend yet are just wanting to dip your toe into the musky shades, shimmering champagne is the perfect colour to start with. Plus, it suits all skin tones.

ustralia takes to the pastel trend like no other. Rewind to 2014 and we coudn't get enough of it. There was no question that our Pinterest boards were filled with prime examples of our love for sweetly decadent pastel shades. But this season, though it marks the return of the trend, it's emerged in a far more subtle, sophisticated way. Rather than feeling overwhelmed

by an exhausted amount of fairyfloss like colours, we're seeing soft accents that will have us falling in love time and time again.

Whether in mint green or blush pink, pastel shades are dominating the season's colour palette. This spring, expect to see these sugary sweet shades trickle in and throughout your wardrobe touching your shoes, jewellery and bags.

But it won't stop there, yoru dĂŠcor will not be immune to the lady-like pastel hues and too, will have it's own mini makeover.

Master the trend by fearlessly pairing it against crisp whites and loafers for the perfect outfit for a Sunday brunch or play it up by wearing blush tones from head to toe.

With spring races fast approaching, be bold and inject a touch of pastel to elevate your feminine game as you look unforgettably stylish.

This is a trend that can do no wrong.

IN PASTELS As one of the most anticipated trends of the year, pastels are exploding onto the fashion scene with a major impact. Think baby pinks, subtle purples, sun ray yellow and powder blue, as these are the colours that will dominate your wardrobe. Play with combing different hues and textures for a feminine look, or pair with denim and leather for a soft touch to an edgy look.

FASHION WEEKLY TALKS

GO GUCC Spring is a brave new world of bold. This season, get to know the classics in a whole new light as floaty and sugary shades dominate. We sat down with fashion blogger, Rachel James to talk about the stylish future of our wardrobes and the return of shoulder grazing earrings. WHAT'S THE BIGGEST TREND FOR SPRING 2016? Pleats, metallics, statement sleeves, pastels, retro sunglasses, midi lengths, and florals (groundbreaking!).

MOST POPULAR COLOUR? A pale, blush pink is huge at the moment, it's in eyewear, sneakers, bomber jackets and everything else.

ARE STRUCTURED OR FLOATY PIECES IN THIS SEASON? Floaty pieces seem to be taking over structured pieces this spring, especially midi-length pleated skirts in metallic and pastel shades. Bell sleeves aren't going anywhere either.

WHAT'S THE MUST HAVE SHOE? Gucci loafers are huge! They are such a classic shape that will complement almost any look and will take you from work to the weekend, effortlessly.

WHAT'S THE MUST HAVE BAG? Gucci Dionysus bags are having a major moment in their signature monogram print varying from floral and suede to every other colour except for black.

WHAT JEWELLERY STYLES WILL DOMINATE? Long statement earrings are back in fashion after a long hiatus. The bigger the better with the ideal length being one that brushes the shoulder.

WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST TREND THAT WILL TAKE OVER OUR WARDROBES THIS SPRING? Bomber jackets were huge this autumn winter, and they're not going anywhere for spring. This season they're covered in prints, embroidery and detail.

ARE THERE ANY CRAZY TRENDS ON THEIR WAY IN THAT WE SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR? Watch out for the Gucci fur-lined slides – they're not for the faint-hearted!

ourtney Thorpe surprised us with her humble spirit, stance of confidence and gleaming smile. She is without question, one of Brisbane's most captivating women who exudes a fierce and fabulous aurora. This beauty queen doesn't have time for nonsense, but her ongoing passion for change and empowerment is why she's leading the way - in her own lane.

"Life has been pretty crazy, recently... I've been back here in Australia full time since March. Which is a big life change since I've been living out of a suitcase for the last couple of years," Courtney Thorpe says. We're standing in the shade under a deep pink bougainvillea at Victoria Park in-between frames. Her skin, glowing and her eyes attentive as we discuss the poses to shoot at the next location. Thorpe's status catapulted into success when she was crowned Miss World Australia in 2014. Fast forward 2 years and she is still trying to adjust with the change. "I was really paranoid when I won Miss World Australia 2014 that the fame was going to go to my head ... I was encouraged to let this world takeover a little because this is my new life," she replies with a hint of doubt. "I don't know if I ever really did that. But I definitely have a different life to what I did a few years ago."

A typical day in the world of Thorpe is rather different to what many may expect. "I don't have a normal day," she laughs. "Though there is a perception that every day for me is full on but that is probably true 70% of the time. But the other 30% of the time I'm at home in my trackies." But don't be deceived, because she has a few daily musts that she is adamant about. Every morning starts with a glass of lemon and water, and even though she 'hates exercise with every fibre of her being', she has forced herself into a routine and runs everyday. Alongside her hectic schedule, she still takes some time out for a little pampering. "I'm into home-made DIY beauty recipes. At the moment, I'm obsessed with sesame oil baths," she says. When I ask her about one product she can't live without, she takes a moment then smiles, "It would have to be my paw paw ointment. I always make sure my lips are hydrated because there is nothing worse than cracked lips. It hurts and it looks bad."

As we switch up locations, You Can't Hurry Love by Phil Collins starts playing in the background and sets the mood for the next set as she poses in the lush greenery of Victoria Park's mini golf course. In a moment of seriousness she breaks the silence and gasps with excitement saying, "This is my favourite song!" Taking initiative she starts moving gracefully as the wind catches her floral jumpsuit and not long after, the photographer has snapped the perfect frame. During the interview I'm taken back by how easy it is to talk to her. Her warmth and welcoming personality had me rather intrigued that I found myself talking to a friend rather than a Beauty Queen. While she was getting her makeup touched up, we discuss the topic about body image and embracing our curves and flaws.

A look of seriousness comes over her as she looks skywards. She takes a breath and says, "I want girls to know that it's OK not to like parts of yourself. I want them to understand that." Passionately she goes on to say, "I'm sick of this message that tells everyone that you have to love everything about yourself, because that's not realistic. I remember that message getting pumped into me when I was younger and then feeling I wasn't good enough because I didn't love everything about myself. But as soon as you accept that there will be parts of yourself that you won't love, you can move forward from it. Now that is a really free and liberating feeling."

How does she do it? She's so full of life, it's inspiring. Surely there is someone or something that keeps her motivated and firmly grounded? “My close girlfriends are my mentors. They are my everything,” she says. “I've worked hard to surround myself with incredible women.”

“Fun, ambitious and a bit cute wouldn't hurt,” she laughs. “But most importantly, I want a down to earth guy.” However, romance isn't easy when you've risen to fame. She has worked hard to create a life that she loves and finding someone to complement that isn't necessarily an easy feat.

I ask if there is a hint of romance in her life? She gives me a cheeky smile: “Right now, I'm a very single Courtney … I'm definitely not out there actively seeking, but I'm always open to something coming along.”

“As strong and ambitious women, we can sometimes come across as being too full on. But those are qualities within myself that I'm not willing to tone down for anyone.” She continues, “I really believe that one day there will be a guy who can handle it.”

Just like any twenty-something year old who's looking for love, Thorpe reveals that she'd like to find someone with whom she can have a good laugh and feel comfortable being around. But she has one condition; he has to have an ambitious side.

Thorpe isn't one to hold back. She has many sides to her persona: She's a beauty queen, model, mentor, public speaker and a voice. Although, being in the spotlight means social media trolls are present to poke negativity at her success.

“We've all watched social media change, particularly over the last few years … I try very hard to make sure that across all of my platforms you see me, Courtney.” She goes on to explain that though she has a strategy to be authentic, it doesn't mean that everyone will sing praises. “One of the hardest things to adjust to was getting those nasty comments. I used to take them to heart but these days, the moment I see it I delete it,” she says. “It holds no value to me and I feel sad for the people who post it.” The prowess will be keeping herself busy with her passion for presenting as she moves into the next chapter of her journey. “I've been doing presenting now for a number of years, I was even doing it before I won [Miss World Australia 2014] and I absolutely love it. I enjoy getting up on stage

and talking to people and I have hopes to move into TV.” She's a bundle of wisdom and motivation. A beautiful soul that has depth, confidence and some serious style! Though she has since given back her crown, there's a part of her that will always be a 'queen', permanently. “[My crown] symbolised so much more than … just some shiny thing on my head. It represents everything that comes with Miss World Australia,” she says. “It symbolises hard work, determination and that never give up attitude.” “Even though I have to stop wearing my physical crown, I didn't want to forget everything that the crown came to represent.” She pauses and grins as her eyes sparkle in the sunlight, “I decided to get a little crown tattoo, which means that I am always wearing my crown.”

OPT FOR A NUDE LIP and bold eyes with dishevelled hair to sex it up.

KEEP IT SEXY with a fitted strapless bodice in a bold colour. It's a timeless look that will always make a statement.

WORDS STACEY O’KEEFFE

SELECT A CRISP WHITE SHIRT... WHY NOT INDIVIDUALISE YOUR LOOK with minimalistic jewellery in silver and gold. Layer fearlessly and don't forget about manicured nails in the season's hottest pastel shades.

CHOOSE A STRAPPY STILETTO to elevate your style game and to finish off your look.

either a fitted womenswear option or an oversized menswear style. Roll up the cuffs to draw the eye to your waistline and don't tuck it into your skinny jeans.

TALKING ABOUT

GLOW

ON INTERVIEW STACEY O’KEEFFE

If there's one thing we love about the changing seasons, it's that we have a chance to switch up our beauty routines and experiment with the latest trends.

Beauty blogger, Rebecca Ruhle has shared what's on her coveted list along with the crazy makeup looks that will dominate our Instagram feed this spring.

W

WHAT IS THE TOP BEAUTY TREND FOR SPRING 2016? Definitely glowy, dewy skin which isn't going away anytime soon.

WHAT IS THE HERO PRODUCT OF THE SEASON? Lancôme's Juicy Shaker Lip Oil. It’s so on point and has the perfect combo of shine, nourishment and wash of colour for every occasion.

MUST HAVE LIP COLOUR? M.A.C Pure Zen. It's the perfect soft peachy nude that suits my colouring and reminds me to breathe and be mindful.

MUST HAVE NAIL POLISH? Essie in Peak Show.

BEST FAKE TANNING TIP? After exfoliating, use a gradual tanner like Dove Summer Glow the night before you tan. It hydrates the skin, creates a smooth base and I've found that when my tan starts to fade, it wears so much better and looks great for longer.

SHOULD WE STILL BE CONTOURING? Subtly! As summer approaches it's nice to have a bit of enhancement on the cheeks as well as an all over bronzy glow. Why not have both?

ARE THERE ANY CRAZY TRENDS ON THEIR WAY THAT WE SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR? We have seen glitter roots all over Instagram, but now glitter tears are a thing. It's basically flecks of glitter smudged under the lower lash line dripping down like tears or to cover up dark circles. Pretty crazy if you ask me!

IN THE KNOW

HAIR DRAMA With the rise of hair extensions and bold, unexpected colours we had to sit down with the queen of hairdressing to give us an exclusive insight into the season's most popular hair trends.

There's no questions that Mary Alamine, Owner and Creative Director from Royals Hair Sydney is leading the mane game with her award winning salon, training academy and empire expansion. She's always one step ahead meaning this spring you can be the trendsetter. Thank us later, but for now, let's just say - you heard it here first.

WHAT IS THE TOP HAIR TREND FOR SPRING 2016? We will be seeing more and more 'Sombre' along with some baby lights framing the face paired with some really cool cropped styles. We will also be seeing more of the lob styles and beautiful warm tones coming through.

WHAT IS THE HERO PRODUCT OF THE SEASON? I would definitely say the Kevin.Murphy Shimmer Shine which has a UV filter and is used on dry hair to add shine as well as treat the hair.

HOTTEST HAIR COLOUR? Cool tones and greys have definitely made a huge impact and it's only the beginning.

MOST POPULAR HAIRSTYLE OF THE SEASON? Women will be indulging in their natural texture with soft movement through the hair; this style appears as though she hasn't done anything to her hair.

WILL VICTORIA'S SECRET CURLS ALWAYS BE IN-STYLE? More and more women are favouring softer movement in the hair but I think we will still see beautiful versions of the Victoria's Secret waves.

ARE HAIR EXTENSIONS BECOMING MORE POPULAR? Hair extensions have become a really popular in-salon service as women love having options to create volume, length and non-committal colour. They are particularly fantastic for when we cut all of our hair off and then decide you want long hair again – the perfect fashion accessory!

IS IT ALL ABOUT SHORT OR LONG LOCKS THIS SEASON? With the "Lob" being a favoured style for the upcoming season, we'll definitely see more women chopping their longer locks to achieve this look. Hair extensions will be rather popular because of clients indulging in the chop and wanting to have the option to quickly change up their look. INTERVIEW STACEY O’KEEFFE

THE SPOTLIGHT

THE PONY 1

3

Style damp hair with a styling mouse and comb through from roots to ends using a wide tooth comb to distribute evenly.

Next, take a small section of hair from under your ponytail and wrap it around the outside of the elastic. Secure the end with a bobby pin underneath the pony.

TIP

Add texture and volume by adding a touch of sea salt spray.

4 Take random sections from the tail and wrap loosely around a large barrel curling iron to add soft and textured waves. Make sure it's not too perfect.

2 Lightly blowdry hair by using your fingers and roughly combing through. To add maximum volume lift at the roots. When hair is completely dry pull it back in a low loose ponytail and secure with a clear elastic band.

TIP To keep the look rather effortless, naturally let pieces of hair fall out by the ear and fringe.

5 To add extra softness spray sea salt spray at the hairline and lightly use your fingers to break up the hairline and create a few soft fly aways.

6 Finish the look with hairspray.

dates LED

SNOOZE TOWN We ordered dinner and he didn't communicate to me at all. We both tried small talk but it was an epic fail. We just ate our food and left. There was barely any conversation. It was so awkward and boring. By far the worst date ever. Loraine, 35

FRIZZLED OUT I have naturally curly hair and I wanted to impress my date so I straightened it. At the restaurant he chose a table outside and it started raining. By the end of the evening my hair's frizz game was strong. And to make it worse, my eyeliner had smudged – so overall I looked like a total mess. Susan, 28

HAIRY SITUATION We went back to his house and things got a little heated. Before I knew it we were taking off our clothes when I realised I hadn't shaved my legs. I didn't want our first encounter to be a hairy one. So I told him that I had my period and said we couldn't do anything. He said it didn't bother him so I spent the next 30 minutes trying to convince him that I seriously couldn't go there. Let me just say we didn't see each other after that. Corrie, 19

OPPOSITES DON'T ALWAYS ATTRACT My date spent the whole time talking about his intense exercise regime and how he doesn't eat sugar, bread or cheese. These are all my three favorite things! Needless to say I never saw him again. Layla, 23

TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE We'd had a lovely first date, he had a secure job and I was hoping we'd see each other again. Until he mentioned his wife. Tracey, 26

NOT SO PERFECT CATCH He was friends with my best friend's boyfriend so initially I was more than happy for them to set us up. For our first date he decided to introduce me to his favourite hobby – fishing! If the sea sickness wasn't enough the fact that I almost fell overboard certainly did the trick. Grace, 25
