MIAMI - VIP YACHTING By: Rebecca Cahilly

ursting with culture, fashion, and history, Miami not only attracts, but also inspires the rich and famous. With endless adventures on land and water, it is the perfect playground for the elite. Miami provides it all, from the very best in designer boutiques and high-end shopping to world-class cuisine, and first class hotels and spas. Miami may be best known for its vibrant cultural diversity, nightlife and fabulous beaches, but that only begins to explore the delights offered by the city. There is another fascinating world that exists just beyond its shores—a world only discovered by private yacht. Once limited to the super wealthy, yacht charter and yacht ownership have but been a distant dream for many, and for most, only a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Now, however, a

32 ||

new opportunity for experiencing the world of luxury yachting has arose, via the Fleet Miami Membership Club. Avid yachtsman and experienced superyacht owner Michael Saylor had a vision for sharing the yachting experience with others. After years of chartering and owning yachts himself, Michael founded Fleet Miami, a concept whereby a fleet of yachts in a variety of length and styles would be available to Fleet Miami members at soughtafter locations around the around the world all year long. For Michael -a true “out-of-the-box” thinker, who holds dual degrees in Aeronautics and Astronautics (spaceship design) and Science, Technology and Society from MIT - being released from the confines of a shoreside hotel and given the true freedom to explore that is afforded by a private yacht was an experience that he wanted Fleet Miami to emulate.

Imagine: After a busy day browsing the boutiques or indulging in the colorful Miami art scene, you are whisked away to the marina where you board your private yacht to be greeted by a smiling stewardess serving your favorite cocktail. As the sun sets and the Miami skyline lights up along the shore, you arrive at as a VIP to the hottest waterfront restaurant in town. This is but a taste of the Fleet Miami experience. Unlike other companies, the Fleet Miami experience is offered in cities other than Miami. Cruise amidst a backdrop of monuments along the Potomac in Washington, DC this weekend or arrive in style at the annual Hamptons bash next summer. Fleet Miami also continue their commitment to luxury and service on the land. Fleet Miami offers an exceptional concierge service that goes above and beyond for members. From the hottest clubs to the best restaurants, sold-out concerts, private

villas, behind-the-scenes access to fashion week - even shopping after hours are but a few of the services the Fleet Miami concierge can arrange. Fleet Miami offers nine (9) private yachts ranging in size and style from 36 – 154 feet in coastal cities along the eastern seaboard of the United States, the Med, Caribbean and Bahamas. This is not just any VIP experience - Fleet Miami treats its members like Fleet Owners. A Fleet Miami membership provides members the opportunity to utilize a fleet of yachts without the cost of ownership and with more flexibility than offered with traditional charter. Members can cancel as needed, use rain dates, and change plans without the hassle of complicated contracts. Fleet Miami is focused on getting their members back to the joy of yachting.

the fleet miami experience FLEET MIAMI 5 DAY TRIP from Miami to Key West

DAY 1: MIAMI TO KEY LARGO

AMAZING SNORKELING, DIVING AND ON-THE-WATER EXCURSIONS An early morning departure sees you and your guests off through Biscayne Bay - with its views of the Miami skyline and historic Stiltsville - to John Pennekamp Marine Park for a mid-day snorkel and swim in the U.S.’s first undersea park. Stretching 25 miles, the park protects the only living coral reef in the continental United States. Lunch is served aboard while your yacht travels the scenic Keys coastline to Looe Key, off Big Pine Key, for late afternoon sunning, snorkeling and swimming in the turquoise waters. The Looe Key reef and the artificial reef wreck of the Adolphus Busch make wonderful sites for scuba diving and snorkeling at varying levels of experience. Rendezvous diving available upon request. Relax with a cocktail and take in the splendor of a magnificent sunset as your yacht cruises to Key West and the Westin Marine and Resort. Dine aboard with a gourmet meal prepared by your personal chef or venture out onto Duval Street for a night of Conch nation frivolity.

DAY 2: KEY WEST THE QUINTESSENTIAL KEY WEST EXPERIENCE Today you’ll walk in the steps of Ernest Hemingway as you visit his home and local haunts. Stroll the galleries and shops of Old Town and partake of true Key West traditions such as the Duval Crawl pub-crawl, with over 300 bars to choose from. For a quintessential Key West experience, lunch amongst the free-roaming cats and chickens at Blue Heaven, where the signature dish is the lobster Benedict with key lime hollandaise. After visiting the Southernmost Point in the U.S. and taking your must-have photo with the larger-than-life buoy, freshen up for a sophisticated dinner and evening at Café Marquesa where the highly rated, somewhat eclectic, menu changes nightly.

DAY 3: DRY TORTUGAS HISTORY WRAPPED IN NATURAL SPLENDOR Enjoy a light breakfast on the aft deck while your yacht embarks on the 70-mile cruise to the Dry Tortugas today. Known as the site of the impressive Fort Jefferson National Monument, this 100-square-mile park is comprised of seven small islands that are only accessible by boat or seaplane. After a visit to the Monument, spend the day fishing, kayaking the mangroves, exploring the barrier reef system or discovering the varied species of birds that inhabit this magical place. Alternatively, stay closer to Key West and start the morning with an invigorating parasail or jet ski adventure. Head out to visit to Sand Key, a small sandbar marked by the Sand Key Light, which affords those who climb it incredible views of Key West. Just one mile east of Sand Key is Rock Key, a relatively shallow dive site perfect for any level of expertise. Crevices and caves are as deep as 20 feet and allow space for one diver at a time.

DAY 4: LITTLE TORCH KEY TRUE TROPICAL ISLAND LUXURY Making your way back up to the real world, today you’ll experience a slice of paradise known as Little Palm Island. Only accessible by boat or seaplane, Little Palm Island is five and a half acres of pristine beaches and solitary tranquility. Dock at the marina and take advantage of all this tropical oasis has to offer, from spa services at the resort to pure relaxation on the secluded beaches.

DAY 5: ISLAMORADA AND MIAMI

SANDBARS, FLATS FISHING AND RUM RUNNER An early morning departure from Little Torch Key has you arriving in Islamorada in time for a guided flats fishing excursion and lunch of the famous lobster grilled cheese paired with a refreshing blueberry margarita at the Cheeca Lodge. While an alternative dining option is Chef Michael’s, who will cook your catch or serve up their hogfish special, you can also opt for the liquid Rum Runner lunch at the Tiki Bar. Your yacht can also anchor out while you tender to Whale Harbor sandbar to partake of a South Florida tradition. On holiday weekends this is the in-water place to be and can get a little rowdy, but on a regular day can mean a shallow-water wading pool for your enjoyment. A late afternoon return to Miami takes you near Stiltsville, a collection of stilt houses in the Biscayne National Park who at one time served as offshore prohibition era clubs.

CELEBRITY

By: Rachel Alexandra Greiner

Building on the momentum, Bianca is now set to lead the cast of MTV’s scripted series, “Happyland,” a teen comedy exploring the underbelly of one of the country’s most popular theme parks and those who work there. It centers on Lucy (Santos), a cynical teen working as a greeter at the park where her single mother has played a fairytale princess for fifteen years. The show explores the realities of growing up and falling in love while living in a make-believe world. This role became the one she most related to. From her awkward quirks and sarcasm to her need to make situations better and be responsible for everyone. “That was me as a teen. I think the more you can relate to a character the more you can fall in love with them and take care of them. The real challenge comes in falling in love with that character you don’t exactly relate to.” >>>

“... Integrity and kindness. Two qualities I would hope most would possess but especially in a world of fronts and facades

<<<

In addition to her work in television, Bianca will make her big screen debut in the highly anticipated Universal Pictures thriller Ouija, directed by Stiles White (The Sixth Sense, Knowing) and produced by Blumhouse Productions (Paranormal Activity). Based on the popular board game, the film will follow a group of teens that connect with an evil spirit. In the film, Bianca plays Isabelle, a life-loving teenager trying desperately to close the door they’ve opened into a foreign spirit world. The suspenseful film is set for a theatrical release on October 24, 2014. Bianca says that for her, working on both television and big screen projects, the differences are minimal save the amount of shooting time. She will continue to pursue both in her career since her focus is creating a great product that people will enjoy! While like her character Isabelle, she has always been afraid of tampering with the supernatural. “I’ve always gotten this strong sense of “don’t mess with it” around those types of things. In that sense I was able to naturally play that up. I think there is a spirit door and I think people either care to enter it or they don’t. Me, not so much!” ianca’s strong passion for performing is giving her the tenacity to work in an tough industry known for chewing and spitting you out. Her childhood included attending acting camp and heavily involvement in school theater productions. Though her college focus was Psychology, Bianca has returned to acting, requiring heart, passion, and a vision which she utilizes along with her degree and the study of the human condition to transform into a variety of characters. “If anything my degree in psychology

has helped me see the likeness in people versus the neurosis which I think most would assume. We’re all on a spectrum of crazy so in essence, we’re all the same but with degrees of differences. It helps me tap into a character easier because I just have to keep in mind what degree to crank it to. I am the opposite of a method actor. I’m my own species.” Santos centers herself on two major qualities. Integrity and kindness. These she hopes most would possess, especially in a world of fronts and facades, believing it is absolutely vital and refreshing to come across a working success that operates with those qualities in mind. It makes her appreciate, believe in and want them to go further. They’re the type of people she prefers to see at the top of the A list because we should admire good people who deserve to be where they are. Because Bianca is predominantly inspired by Truth, she notices the everyday little things like a phrase or a friendly chat with a stranger reminds her why she’s on her journey as an actress bringing reality to life. In the end, Bianca wants to be able to do as many different roles as possible. “That’s the dream right!? To be able to play pretend in all sorts of skins. I’m lucky I haven’t fallen into a type. It just means there’s so much more ahead.”

RA: Our personal style tends to have some of the same characteristics as our designs, but we try to design for our target market rather than ourselves. FMM: How would you advise a girl to accessorize a Rachel Allan prom dress? Do you like to layer your jewelry or are you more minimalistic? RA: Almost all of our dresses have heavily beaded necklines; we tend to style it with bracelets and earrings. FMM: Speaking of accessories, are shoes, handbags or jewelry areas you’ve considered expanding into in the future? RA: We’ve considered expanding to other areas, but we probably will not in the near future.

numbers rather than names; What inspired this choice? Is it your way to improve customer service by simplifying the transaction for the buyers? RA: We have so many pieces in our line, it’s easier to keep track of everything with numbers rather than names. FMM: Do you have a personal favorite from your collections, and if so which one? RA: We have 2 personal favorites from our prom collection. 6836:Magenta and 6832: Pink FMM. Did you opt for formal education in a fashion related field that led to your success? RA: Our design team has received degrees in fashion design. FMM: What would you consider your biggest achievement thus far in your career? RA: Re-branding to Rachel Allan. FMM: If you had to describe your brand as a whole, using one word, what word would it be? RA: Fresh FMM: What are your top 5 must-have items in your carry-on bag when traveling? RA: Favorite shorts, favorite shirt, favorite shoes, a swimsuit, and a blanket. Just in case the plane crashes on a deserted island. FMM: What do you consider the most essential item in your closet? RA: The perfect pair of nude pumps. FMM: As style is a constant evolution, how would you say your designs have changed since you began in 1985? Are there any key elements that have remained the same throughout the years? RA: We have always had heavy beading, but the style, creativity, and quality has improved greatly.

FMM: Another unique aspect of your collection I noticed is that your styles are identified by

I’m launching my very own skin care product line called FöM™ soon. It’s about clean, light, high quality products that I have designed to enhance anyone’s look and style. The name FöM™ comes from a blend of the words femme and homme, and I also love the imagery of sea foam-- clean, refreshing & natural! We live in a new era. Old gender roles and rules are confining and out-ofdate. I decided to design the FöM™ products as I began to see an exciting new feeling of individualism and selfexpression developing in my clients and people I meet every day. People want to have self-determination in all aspects of their lives more than ever I believe, and that is reflected in their choice of lifestyle products too. FöM™ expresses that ideal.

Feeling a strong passion for fashion since early age when he would watch his grandmother make clothes for family, friends and neighbors. Without a doubt, his grandmother is the most inspirational person in his life. This helped him recognize his interest, to learn the skills and patience required to highlight every detail in designing and creating garments. Víctor learned to pay attention to fashion in the media (newspaper, tv, magazine), which lead to an appreciation of what elegant women wear. His long-time celebrity crush has been sarah jessica parker. In the latin community, women focus on elegance without focusing on female’s curvy lines. Yet he believes this is why he always designs by accentuating the waist and the sexy part they would like to show off. urrently, López is a student at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) majoring in fashion design. In this institution he is learning the most valuable educational and personal lessons that are shaping him to become leading Dominican Designer in New York. >>>

In his short career in the fashion world, he has had the opportunity to dress important figures such as Mexican award winning singer, Ana Barbara, for Latin Billboards, among other local artists. oreover, his design worn at the 2012 Latin Grammy Awards by Miss Dominican Republic US 2012, Chantel Martínez, made Best Dressed List. In 2013, he presented his collection Ladies in Black for FW13 at Latin Fashion Week and Uptown Fashion Week. Early 2014, Lopez was getting ready to present his latest collection along with his business partner, Ed Rosario. The collection is inspired by the fashion Mod movement of the1960’s and the fashion icon, Twiggy. For summer, Lopez has focused his designs for a more of an urban, sexy, city, modern, chic woman. The ones that know how to dress, show the skin and never leave elegance. Ready with the SS ‘15 collection, Victor Lopez Designs by Ed Rosario, brings colors, texture and diversity. This collection achieves the expanse of their brand, not just as a designer. or Víctor, the best part of being a designer is having made it an integral part of his every day life. On the side of the creativity process, such things as walking down the street, looking at people, sitting on a bench in the park, doing research about fashion history set the mood. If Lopez feels sad his sketches are more colorful. While happy, it is the other way around. In design, ideally the focus of style is creating a dress for a woman who is confident, knows her body and can change her look in seconds. Bringing that sexiness and attention to the female contours are paramount. He speculates on just how far along he’d be currently if he had started his business when he was twenty. However, now takes every

opportunity that comes his way, leaving his footprints with distinction and firmness. In reference to the brand partnership, Víctor and Eduardo have been friends for nearly 4 years. There are no rules. They work as a team. Ideas come from and are then edited until the design comes alive. However, Victor leans toward more the design part, choosing colors and Ed focuses more on the media aspect, promotions, and business matter. With Victor’s abilities in painting and abstract drawing and Eduardo’s fascination with fashion, the entire story starts with a dare for Víctor to draw a dress, which turned out really bad. So Eduardo asked him to research how to do a sketch, which Víctor has been perfecting ever since. ith the rise of Internet usage and the explosion of social media, namely Instagram, Víctor and Eduardo are aware of how technology is better helping them market their designs. Already receiving followers and accolades from those not only on other sides of the country but around the world, they welcome this platform for sharing their work with others who appreciate international fashion and design.

Yin Goes Yang

Yin & Yang, a Chinese concept of interconnected opposites; a balance between the Feminine (Yin) and the masculine (Yang).

Men’s & Women’s trends are overlapping more now than ever...

Yin & Yang in terms of fashion translates to a balance in opposing colors, silhouettes and spectrum of accesorization. How much is too much?

Athletic Jerseys

Couture and streetwear labels have taken a cue from the field, creating athletic jersey inspired looks for their admiring fans. All hail head designers as MVP’s, in the garment game! Tom Ford’s sequin#61 jersey dress, is ideal for games that start after dark.

Florals

Floral and tropical prints for men, a

confident, colorful print to carry over into fall. Break up floral prints with solid layers like this Tom Ford, 3 piece ensemble featured in GQ. ---Now, who doesn’t like a man that comes with flowers?---

D r e s s S h i r t // F l a n n e l s

The button down, button up dress shirt

Pink

has become a renewed wardrobe staple. Think of it as a blank canvas, either paired with pumps and denim or worn unbottoned over a dress and boots. #ThisShirtIsYourOyster Rock a flannel tied around your waist and channel your favorite 90’s icon. (Perfect for “boy” shaped bods that want the illusion of fuller hips and smaller waist!).

A man in pink exudes an air of

confidence and a playful flair. He isn’t afraid to stand out and risk taking is his 9-5. If pink is just not your color, Orange-pinks, like salmon or coral are great variations! Tom Ford’s pink jacket is showcased over a white turtleneck and above a crisp, light pink pant.

Drop Crotch Pants &The Boyfriend

S k i n n y Le g P a n t s

A must. Dressed up or down, a few rips

or plenty, fun was had in your boyfriends jeans...Whether it’s paired with a plain white tee, a sequin blazer or a chunky sweater for the weather, it won’t dissapoint. Aside from denim, many other pants have now dropped their crotch for that effortlessly sexy slouch.

The tighter, the better, with little room

for a man’s wallet, keys or phone it appears men are not only adopting a slimmer silhouette but also the mentality of good looks over comfort. Tailored suits have also slimmed down from thigh to hem, for this skinny trend. #UncomfortablyGoodLooking

Suit&Tie

S k i r ts // L o n g Tunics Over Pants

Layering a long tunic over pants or wearing a pant with a peplum is a growing trend that is appearing on the runway as well as streetwear brands and on individuals around the world. Layer this look monochromatically for effortless edge and appeal.

By: Melody Minagar @MelodyMinagar

Women’s suits are on trend in slim, tailored silhouettes and over- sized styles. Pair your suited look with neck ties and bowties or style them separately. For a casual look, try a silk knit neck tie or a floral bow tie over a chambray shirt. You can tie it tight and right or leave it undone. I’m thinking Sharon Stone in that white suit she wore at Elton John’s Aids Foundation circa 2008, understated sex appeal at it’s best. “Now, tell me something you’re afraid of ?”...

CELEBRITY

By: Rachel Alexandra Greiner

Vanessa has now been nominated multiple times for a Teen Choice Award for her portrayal of Bay Kennish, the artistic and edgy daughter in the ABC Family Television Critics Award winning show, “Switched at Birth.” Marano shares her thoughts on playing the roles of such as this. “Bay is filled with personality, that’s for sure. Her strengths are that she never represses anything. She is vocal about her emotions and her opinions. Her weakness is that she is too vocal sometimes. She’s too short sided to realize the effects of her words and ideas. You definitely go through cycles especially as a girl. When you’re young, you play the precocious child. When you’re a preteen, you’re either quirky or the mean girl. As soon as you turn sixteen, you’re the rebellious teenager.

You stay that stage for a while, even when you’re not a teenager anymore.” Clearly Vanessa knows what she’s doing and is tremendously excited and grateful since the series continues to be a huge success and has gone on to win multiple awards including the Peabody Award in 2013. The hit series is set to return in June for the remainder of the third season. part from her current role on “Switched at Birth,” Marano is recognized for her roles as April, the daughter of Luke, in the highly popular “Gilmore Girls,” and as Francesca, the daughter of the Emmy® Awardwinning Lisa Kudrow, in the HBO Original series “The Comeback.” In the past, she also starred in “Scoundrels” as the scheming, school-skipping daughter of Virginia Madsen. Her impressive resume includes recurring roles in shows including: “Dexter,” “Without a Trace,” “Medium,” “Trust Me” and “The Young and The Restless.” Guest-starring credits include “Perception”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Private Practice”, “Parenthood,” “Medium,” “Love Bites,” “Ghost Whisperer,” “Past Lives,” “Six Feet Under,” “Malcolm in the Middle” and “Grounded for Life.” In addition to her work on some of television’s most prominent series, Marano starred as a young girl who becomes a quadriplegic in the critically acclaimed television movie “The Brooke Ellison Story,” directed by Christopher Reeve, and worked with Lucy Liu on a miniseries playing the troubled foster teenager, Immy, in “Marry Me.” Her first film

was the animated hit “Finding Nemo,” followed by the independent films “Easy,” “The Clique,” “Stopping Power,” “Dear Lemon Lima,” “The Secret Lives of Dorks” and the edgy Lifetime movie “Restless Virgins,” based on the sex scandal that rocked renowned Massachusetts prep school, Milton Academy, in 2005. Her mom, dad and sister have been a strong influence on her She enjoys spending her money on shoes and clothes, commenting on her “soft spot for shoes.” However unlike most adolescents, she has been a big supporter of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation ever since she worked with him when she was eleven. “They’re so close to finding a cure for spinal cord injury, it’s amazing.” Marano is proficient in American Sign Language, speaks Italian, and is currently enrolled in college, working around her work schedule.
