ABOUT FTF The Fair Trade Federation is a community of businesses committed to 360° fair trade. Our members work closely with small farmers and artisans to ensure good wages, safe working conditions, environmental responsibility, and economic growth. Our members are screened and verified based on all nine Fair Trade Federation principles and uphold the highest standards of fair trade business practice.
ON THE COVER The front cover features a fair trade Palestinian tatreez embroidered bag, hand-stitched by talented women artisans in the West Bank. This tatreez collection, Darzah, is an initiative of FTF member Child’s Cup Full, a non-profit social enterprise working in the West Bank. The mission of Darzah is to create economic opportunities for refugee and low-income communities and to connect women around the world through the story of tatreez embroidery. Mayamam Weavers’ home goods and textiles are inspired by the rich colors, patterns and traditional weaving techniques of the Maya culture. All of our products are handwoven in 100% cotton on backstrap and foot looms using traditional designs adapted for a modern audience. We began in 2008 as a cooperative of women in Cajolå, Guatemala who came together to overcome poverty and create jobs within their community, rather than migrate to the U.S. and separate their families. Since then, the cooperative has grown to 20 weavers and seamstresses, all earning fair trade wages while learning the skills to run a business. mayamamweavers.com
