Brief

BRIEF EXPLORE INNOVATIVE IoT APPLICATION SCHEMES. DEVELOP A PRODUCT CONCEPT, PROPOSE A DESIGN AND PROTOTYPE IT.

PROJECT OPPORTUNITIES MARKET ESTIMATES: “remote patients monitoring estimated $1.1 trillion a year by 2025” SOCIAL TRENDS: “two-thirds of people age 65 and older need assistance from either a mobility device or another person to go about their daily activities.”

MARKET SECTOR SATURATION: IoT early stage in nursing solutions* REPORTED CASES: - elders lost in the city (dementia); - nurses are overloaded with work and have little time for conversations with the patients; - elders fall down without means of calling help

*no remote ( outside facility) monitoring /existing project poorly developed

APPLICATION CREATE A MEANINGFUL FLOW OF INFORMATION BETWEEN NURSING HOME PATIENTS, THEIR CLOSE ONES AND NURSING HOMES. ELDER’S CLOSE ONES

ELDER

NURSING FACILITY

DESIGN BRIEF DESIGN AN INTERACTIVE WELLBEING TRACKING DEVICE FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE LIVING IN NURSING HOMES. •

Ensure quick health feedback to the direct user

Ensure that if their health is in danger assistance will be notified

Take the workload from the nursing personnel, and thus make time for more empathetic conversations

Provide help in an occasion of being lost in the city

Provide a means of alert when immobilized

Ensure privacy and maintain low impact on the user

Provide relevant medical data for the nursing home personnel

Provide elder’s close ones with a data relevant to them

BENCHMARKING INSIGHTS •

Smart device dependant (one way communication)

GPS for logging activities not location (No 3G connectivity)

Mostly Sport or medical centered product and app aesthetic

Not suited for system building

BENCHMARKING INSIGHTS

BENCHMARKING INSIGHTS

PRODUCT CONTEXT Everyday wearable/take along (pin/clip) product. Desirable aesthetics - high quality accessory rather than a medical tracking device.

MOODBOARD

MOODBOARD

DESIGN REQUIREMENTS •

Physical activity tracking ― daily reports

GPS location ― on demand + geofencing

Vitals reader (pulse oximeter) ― voluntary measurements

Prompts (haptic) about measurements (“Do you want to check up?”)

Visual feedback with light color about the health state (no text) ― after taking the measurement

Distress button ― on demand (ensure no accidental triggers)

Not smartphone dependent

Unisex

USER INSIGHTS •

Elders are not tech savy

Problems with hearing, sight and memory

Elders don’t like hospitals and medical equipment

CONCEPT

CONCEPT •

Galvanic skin response

Accelerometer (activity tracking and fall detection)

Vibration motor (haptic prompts)

Pulse oximeter

Turn switch (distress signal)

RGB LED (health state feedback)

3G (communication)

Battery charging port

GPS (location)

CONCEPT

Sensor close up

Distress signal

CONCEPT

DOING GREAT

NOT SO GOOD

YOU ARE OK
