HOW DO YOU IMPROVE THE BANDIT?

¬ The kite is an extension of your body that performs in harmony with you; this ultimate link means that as soon as you’ve thought about the turn, the kite is already making it with a perfect feeling and control.

Every year we ask ourselves this question, and each year there follows another question, what are we looking for? Our primary focus is to develop the wind range, the lateral pull of the kite, the feedback and feeling at the bar and the maneuvrability. After eleven years of constant enrichment, we focused on specific areas to channel our efforts and achieve our goals with the twelfth edition of the BANDIT.

¬ This year the BANDIT delivers extraordinary maneuverability and reactivity, it’s like driving an “F-ONE car” instead of a bus. ¬ Power delivery is smooth and consistent regardless of the conditions offering you maximum comfort.

H RIDING RANGE This has always been a key are for the BANDIT, a wider wind range means you can enjoy longer sessions in more varied conditions. Just because a kite works across a wide range though doesn’t mean it is good. Enhancing the effective “Riding Range” was the goal for the designers and testers; this is the range of wind in which you can perform all your tricks. You’ll find the BANDIT allows you to ride at your best regardless of the conditions.

H ULTIMATE LINK There is a special link between the rider, wind and the water. Your connection to the kite is crucial, it is how you feel the power from the wind, and it provides the control as well. The feelings we get when we are kiting are always different, the wind is constantly changing and so too is the water we ride on. With predictable and consistent power delivery and incredible bar feedback, the new BANDIT ensures every session is a good session. There will be no more complaints about gusty winds or struggling for control when overpowered.

H MANEUVERABILITY At F-ONE we believe that we’re happier when we are riding smaller kites. 7-9 m2 kites are always the most fun to fly, as they are so reactive. This year the handling on the new BANDIT has been further improved so that every kite feels smaller in the sky. You’ll find the 12 m2 flies like a 9 m2 and that feeling is priceless.

H SMOOTH POWER DELIVERY Many kiters don’t fully appreciate the importance of lateral pull in their kites. When we ride, we are always fighting the forces from the kite by edging the board to create forward motion. For many years we have been working to reduce the lateral pull felt by the rider, this means you can enjoy longer, more comfortable sessions with less effort. The new BANDIT offers the perfect balance between power and lateral pull, with fantastic low end and incredible comfort in the middle and at the top of the wind range. Edging has never been so easy, your jumps will be even bigger and your board is released.

H SHEETED IN The back line is released and the forces go through the front connector. The bar pressure increases and the maneuvrability is less direct. It offers a very progressive bar with a feeling of a sheeted out back connector while we sheet in, therefore the pressure increases progressively.

H SHEETED OUT The kite tilts and the back line stiffens. The tensions move to the trailing edge which has several effects: ¬ less flapping ¬ better start ¬ maneuvrability with less pressure.

A FIVE STRUT DESIGN The C-Shape itself has always been the best option for making an easy to control and dynamic kite. To maximise the handling during intense moments such as loading up for pop and slack, and megaloops, we utilised a five strut design which keeps the profile exceedingly steady and gives our riders great confidence in the kite at all times. We decided to add a 5th line to help with control, optimise the power and also to enable them to relaunch the kite quickly with minimal effort.

H Freestyle kites undergo unique situations as the riders load and release, going from full power as they edge to no power as they fly through the air, that "slack" feeling is the Holy Grail of a good freestyle kite. The WTF!? has superior pop and excellent slack, while we have ensured the kite is strong enough to handle these intense demands, especially during high wind kite loops, we have also kept the weight of the kite down to ensure excellent handling. H Each size of the WTF!? has been individually designed to match the conditions they are aimed at. The larger sizes have been developed to deliver more power and get you planing early; the smaller sizes are built with a high top end wind range in mind. This means whichever size you choose; you know everything has been done to get the most out of the given conditions on the day.

H We are offering the WTF!? in every size from 5 to 15 m2 allowing you to choose the perfect quiver for you without having to compromise. The kites are also highly tuneable, allowing you to dial in the flying characteristics to suit your riding style. There are three tuning options on the front lines; these allow you to adjust the kite to fly according to your level, riding style and the conditions of the day. Three rear line tuning options enable you to tune how the kite feels at the bar and adjust the handling too. H T he WTF!? ships with our new LINX BAR adjustable from 42 to 35 cm letting you further tune the kite to your desired preference. This bar also comes with a wide chicken loop to make hooking in and out easy. Safety is, of course, important, even for the best riders; the 5th line takes care of this and can be activated even when the kite is in suicide mode by simply pushing the release.

H At the top level of freestyle today judges are rewarding the riders who enter the trick at high speed, then pop to massive heights while being able to perform technical tricks with fast landings to get the maximum points. The WTF!? is unique in that we let you tune the way the kite pops and gives your slack. H By moving the front lines, you can get more or less power, pop and slack. As you start to reach competition level you can select the higher power option to ensure you get those amplitude points, if your level is still progressing then you can dial the kite down a few notches to make the pop easier and the slack more forgiving.

H We tested a lot of different profiles for each size to get the perfect combination of pop, slack and support. When working with our designer Robert Graham, the riders were amazed at how much he could tune each profile and prototype to create the perfect combination of these three critical aspects to make the best kite possible.

DESIGN

Introduced in 2017, the FURTIVE is a “satellite” kite which comes as a complement to the BANDIT. Designed as a genuine performance kite and hangtime machine, the FURTIVE is available in many sizes from 5 m² to 19 m² to maximize your performances in all kinds of conditions.

In 2014, Alex CAIZERGUES asked us for some custom kites to beat his own speed record of 56.62 kts. The design brief was to reach a maximum speed by riding over-powered with a 6.5 m² on the speed run with an average wind of 50 kts… We have therefore worked on a kite with more aspect ratio and 5 struts.

But during the development, two things happened: HF irst we were surprised by the enjoyment we had when riding with this kite. This is due to the thrills it provides thanks to its performance (who doesn’t like speed and acceleration…?) but also thanks to its hang-time. HT hen the foil riders in search for a long distance weapon became interested in this kite and immediately wanted to use it.

The FURTIVE features a high aspect ratio for high performance and 5 struts to control the profile for the 6.4 to 10 m2. The larger sizes from 12 to 19 m2 come with only 3 struts in order to optimize the kite's weight. The 5 m2 also comes with 3 struts due to its small size. Its profile has been developed to ensure maximum traction at the edge of the window. Its W5 bridle is totally innovative and brings together the function of a bridle and a 5th line! We have called it W5 due to its W pattern which includes a central line to control the leading edge arc, like a 5th line. It provides perfect distortion control and the central line further helps with the depower of the kite.

The kite is stable and the motion is fully under control. Bar feedback is super clear which makes you want to go faster all the time. Get ready, you are going to be willing to over-take anything else on the water! Performance usually comes with jumping abilities. To improve this aspect, we have worked on the bar feeling, its maneuverability when sending the kite to the zenith and its boost during the jumps. The kite lifts you really high and glides very well afterwards. Hang-times records are up for grabs!

Comfortable and fast, this kite is made for long distance courses and provides you with enough control to regulate your efforts during the long runs. Its flying range provides great tolerance to wind variations, especially in the high range. Going hard upwind feels quite exceptional as the kite gives you the feel of being on an open reach. Its traction is really oriented towards the edge of the window with good support which saves you from pushing too much on the legs or on the back. When reaching or going downwind, this kite will let you ride at full speed, helping the board to wipe away the sea state.

To foil at high speed requires a lot of control and avoiding parasitic movements in the kite, especially wingtip flutter. If the kite moves, then you move too and so does your foil which inevitably results in losing control of your direction and balance. Controlling the distortion of the kite during all flying phases has been the hardest goal to achieve during the development for foil riding but it has clearly benefitted all other disciplines.

The LINX Bar is since 2018 our new control system. Available in 3 sizes: 52/45 & 45/38 cm for the 4 lines bar and 42/35 cm for the 5 lines bar dedicated to freestyle. It allows you to choose the perfect bar for your quiver. The integrated floats house the mechanism to adjust the size of your bar. For this 2019 edition, we have improved it and added some great features to create the best connection to your kite. The new lines are less elastic: they stretch 30% less than the previous ones, which makes kite steering more precise.

The Hub is now made of anodized aluminium and the F-ONE cleat is hollowed, which allows to have lighter parts for an even more performing bar. Finally the central neoprene float colors as well as the release handle have been harmonized with the rest of the bar to create a neat LINX Bar.

SAFETY SYSTEM

Designed to work efficiently even in the most critical situations, it can be triggered under load but also when the lines are slack. A stopper at the top holds the kitebar to make sure the system works even when the bar is pushed towards the rider and blocked in the lowest position. The push-away system enables to trigger the release with minimal force even under the highest loads (tested up to 400 kg). Since 2016, the quick-release is provided with more rigid elastics.

The quick release features a swivel which enables the user to un-twist the front lines while riding. This is done by simply rotating by hand the top part of the quick release. This rotating part is mounted on a ball bearings mechanism making the operation effortless, even if the kite is pulling.

LIFE LINE SWIVEL It makes sure neither the lifeline nor the safety leash gets twisted. This 2nd swivel operates automatically and does not require any action from the user.

WIDE CHICKEN LOOP The Freestyle push-away quick-release comes with a wide chicken loop to make hooking in and out easy.

Their outline, stiffness and profile were designed specifically for surfing with a kite, which means different requirements than for prone surfing. The FLOW series was developed for versatility and high performances over a wide range of conditions. From freestyle to wave riding, the boards are simply transformed. Made of epoxy composites and built using RTM TECHNOLOGY, their lightweight is especially interesting for all freestyle tricks.
