A LEARNING DISORDER

Issues with fallowing directions, trouble writing down rapid information and forgetting certain things throughout the day are some of the symptoms caused by Dyslexia. An estimated 40 million American adults have dyslexia and only about two million know they have it. It is a common disability that effects learning, reading and speech. Most individuals inherit this trait from their family genes. As a child of two Latin parents dyslexia was a new term. Being forgetful, having trouble with reading and writing was just a common trait between me and my dad. As a young child my father had a lot of trouble with school. Something I dealt with as well in my younger years. Not being aware of this learning disorder, any sort of issues with education where thought of as laziness. As time passed my educational institutions realized my learning disability and spoke to my parents about it. When the symptoms were described to them they realized that my dad realized he shared them as well. Through the use of typography, visuals and color palette. I want to describe what dyslexia is about including its symptoms, causes and complication.

TYPOGRAPHY & ARCHITECTURE

PUBLIC SPACES THAT INSPIRE

Public recreational spaces that inspire its visitors are places that I have gravitated towards from a ver y young age. Seeing children and adults interact with exhibits, learn something new or be surprised by the magnificence of a space, is what draws me to these locations. The theme for this final project is public recreational spaces. Deconstructivism is the type of architectural movement I am concentrating on. To narrow things down even more the project will be broken into three subtopics that consist of museums, theaters (art centers), and stadiums. A series of short videos will be created as advertisement for an event to celebrate some of the top deconstructive architects of our time. I will implementing the chosen movement onto my experimental typographic videos. Through the use of letters and various materials, I will present the style and designs these famous architects have been working with through out there well known careers.

PERSONAL VIEW

INVESTIGATION

As a child my family and school took me to museums to learn the histor y of my countr y, how things worked and to admire paintings painted by masters of the past. Museums in my eyes were about being inspired to be like these well remembered individuals. Not only were the exhibits empowering, but so were the majestic buildings that held all these treasures with in.

Most of the investigation will be done to become familiar with the Deconstructivism Momevment. The better the moment is understood the better then video will come out. Another ver y impor tant topic to learn about are the architects that are being honored at the event. At the moment I have chosen Helmut Swiczinsky, and Michael Holzer, Peter Eisenman, Frank Gehr y, Zaha Hadid, Rem Koolhaas, Daniel Libeskind, and Bernard Tschumi.

My chosen subtopics resemble the experiences that I had as a child and moments that I still live today as an adult. In order for the project to really take a life of its own. I needed to choose something I had experienced before. For tunately I have been to a few plays, been to a couple of stadiums and feel at home in a museum. My memories make me work harder to represent the emotion I have towards these spaces.

To be able to open my mind to the possibilities when it comes to filming, shooting and editing. I will do intensive research on shorts done for similar events. Most of the research will be done on Vimeo and Youtube plus I will also go to a some museums to see if any ideas spark while on location.

TARGET AUDIENCE

EVENT TYPE

My target audience are architects, educated individuals that are interested in architectural advances, celebrating great minds and know these chosen architects work. As well as designers, ar tist, philanthropist and curators. There will be the occasional student that is at the event to learn and see these great architects up close.

The event is being held at the MOMA in New York city on Januar y 22nd in the evening. Where there will be books being sold, some book signing and a full on exhibit of the architects work and achievements. It will be a formal event where there with beverages and some o’devours.

These personas are middle upper class that have a connection to architecture and/or the interior design industr y. Some of these individuals are engineers, book publishers, and ar tist representatives. Most of them are par t board members of the museum where the event is being held.
