Just a short walk from the rustic cabin you called home for two weeks, the small, pristine lake where you learned to paddle a canoe sparkled like diamonds under the full moon. After repeated attempts under a sweltering sun, your friends shrieked with delight as your bow and arrow finally found that elusive bull’s eye. And 20 years later, your best friend, whom you met at camp, cherishes the same memories of simple, summer fun. What is old is new again, as today’s parents look to the traditional sleep-away or

of today’s amenities. Yet with some of the most exquisite and character-filled features you will find anywhere, the current owners were quick to point out that the property has never lost the quaint feeling of a family home. As we approach the home down a long sprawling driveway we pass by the coach house. A former maid’s quarters, the coach house includes two bedrooms and an attached three-car garage. It is rather charming in its own right, but actually just a small preview of what you’ll find at the opposite end of the drive. Moving toward the home now we arrive at a very imposing two-story structure that spans more than 10,500-square-feet of living space. What was once a detached three-car garage is now attached by way of a rectangularshaped addition, flawlessly designed with an indoor pool, patio and lounge area that now cleverly connects the two buildings together. Looking at the building today you would never know that it hadn’t been like this since the home was built over ninety years ago. Continued on page 18 February 2014

2015 Ford Mustang

April 17, 2014, marks the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the original Ford Mustang and while it might not technically be a luxury performance coupe, hardly any vehicle inspires as much passion as the Mustang. “The visceral look, sound and performance of Mustang resonates with people, even

if they’ve never driven one. Mustang is definitely more than just a car—it is the heart and soul of Ford,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, global product development. The clean-sheet design of both the Mustang fastback and convertible evokes the essential character of the brand, retaining

key design elements with a contemporary execution. But the really big news is at the rear. Instead of keeping the live rear axle Mustang has been known for, you’ll find an all-new integral-link independent rear suspension that Mustang enthusiasts have been insisting on for years.

2015 Lexus RC F

Lexus introduces its most powerful V8 engine ever in the all-new 2015 RC F performance coupe. The F performance model gets its powerful roar from more than 450 horsepower and more than 383 lb.-ft. torque. The power will transfer through a newly

calibrated eight-speed Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission with paddle shifters. “I’ve built RC F to be enjoyed by all enthusiasts – no matter what their level of expertise,” said RC F chief engineer Yukihiko Yaguchi. “There’s a misconception that racing

cars are hard to drive. In fact, they’re easy in the right hands because they’ve been purpose-built for the skill level of their drivers. It’s the same with RC F. But even at its basic setting, it’s a blast.”

twice the fun. 2014 BMW 4Series Coupe

The all-new BMW 4 Series Coupe marks the beginning of a new era for coupes at BMW. Launched as the latest generation of BMW’s sporty mid-size coupe, the new 4 Series embodies the very essence of dynamics and aesthetic appeal in the premium segment. The new coupe is visibly larger in width and

wheelbase than the outgoing BMW 3 Series Coupe, and its stretched silhouette sits considerably lower to the road. New elements of the BMW 4 Series Coupe are the air breathers, which are positioned rearwards of the front wheel arches to reduce drag. The coupe’s

muscular wheel arches and wide track give an aggressive stance, with its prominent horizontal lines. This, together with its BMWtypical short overhangs, long hood and setback passenger compartment with flowing roofline, give the BMW 4 Series Coupe a visual balance.

“The 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe is a natural step in the brand’s progression, and another distinctive, fun-to-drive and technologically advanced product for a new generation of drivers extending our target groups,” said Uwe Ellinghaus, chief marketing officer, Global Cadillac. “It is an exclusively distinctive American

alternative, unique in its class, yet delivering a sporty and sophisticated driving experience rivaling the world’s best.” Like the sedan, the ATS Coupe’s driving dynamics are rooted in mass efficiency, which helps make it one of Cadillac’s lightest and most agile models ever–and the lightest car in the compact luxury coupe segment.

Cadillac’s first-ever compact luxury coupe goes on sale this summer, the all-new 2015 ATS Coupe. Designed to be lighter, more agile and more engaging than its competitors, it extends Cadillac’s productdriven growth and the brand’s tradition of dynamic luxury coupes.

Chevrolet Camaro Z/28

The 2014 Camaro represents the most significant redesign since the introduction of the fifth-generation Camaro as a concept car in 2006. “The 2014 Camaro is our opportunity to apply what we have learned listening to our customers, and our continuing development of high-performance models,” said Tom Peters,

Camaro exterior design director. “We look for solutions that are both functional and beautiful so that the result is genuine Chevrolet—simple, powerful, honest, and more than expected.” 2014 also marks the return of the Z/28, the most iconic model in Camaro history. “As the ultimate track-capable Camaro,

this car restores the mission of the original Z/28, and serves as a testament to the expertise of Chevrolet as the best-selling brand of performance cars,” said Mark Reuss, president, GM North America. “This car could only come from Chevrolet, and could only be called the Z/28.”

The Audi RS 5—developed by quattro GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AUDI AG—brings heightened performance to the A5 model line. Model year 2014 represents the first full model year that the RS 5 will be offered as a purist performance coupe. In addition, the newlyintroduced RS 5 Cabriolet—which combines track-tested engineering with the freedom of open air driving—joins the successful RS 5 Coupe for the 2014 Model year. With a high-revving 450 horsepower naturally aspirated V8 with 316 lb-ft. of torque,

both the RS 5 Coupe and Cabriolet are mated to a seven-speed S tronic® transmission and are equipped standard with the legendary Audi quattro® all-wheel drive. The RS 5 Coupe™ launching from 0-60 MPH in 4.5

Located in the wilderness, 90 miles from Canada, the boys who come here are ready for adventure. Cabins are mixed by age, grade and abilities. And they support each other throughout the experience. Legacy campers are those whose families believe in this summer tradition and send each new generation, often to the same camps attended by parents and grandparents. The right camp will become part of the family’s life forever. As the director of Gold Arrow Camps, in the heart of the Sierra National Forest in California, Audrey Monke boasts the many benefits of a child’s sleep-away camp

experience. “I think, especially in this time when parents are so involved and connected with their kids, that camp is a time when kids can spend time away from their parents. They can be independent and be okay,” said Monke, whose campers, boys and girls, ages 6–14, are only allowed letter contact with their parents.

“At camp, they grow a lot, make their own decisions and make it through conflicts. It’s one of the greatest benefits,” she added. Unlike college students who are in regular contact with their parents, camps provide a chance to disconnect from parents, if only for a brief time. “The value of camp is the opportunity to grow and develop and for kids to dig into themselves,” said Monke. “They socialize better with other kids and learn to be a better friend. It’s a great environment in which to foster this growth.” Continued on page 26 February 2014

children—all expected to perform the same tasks and within the same parameters. “At camp, we watch kids change over two weeks. By giving them the tools and opportunities to learn to be successful, camps are a safe place for that—to learn, make mistakes, grow— all in a very supportive, nurturing place,” said Monke. As a parent, Monke has sent all five of her kids to different types of camps over the years. She recommends that parents pre-screen camp options, then have the child be involved in the process to select the final destination based on their interests. Described by one camp enthusiast as ‘substance hidden in fun,’ the sleep-away camp experience will stay with each child long after the summer ends. And these lessons will last a lifetime. God’s corner by Ger trude M. Puelicher

“My religion doesn’t help me,” sobbed a grief-stricken woman. “I’m so unhappy, I don’t know which way to turn or what to do. I’ve always gone to church regularly, and now when I really need help, I can’t get it. Why? That’s what I want to know. Why?” Somewhere along the years, when worry, fear, discouragement, unhappiness have beset us, you and I have asked ourselves that same question, haven’t we? Why, when we have been trying to the best of our ability to live good Christian lives should we be left seemingly destitute of spiritual help at the exact moment of our need? The Bible is filled with promises—“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all the ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path.”—“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”—“I will not leave you comfortless. I will come to you.” If merely to read these verses brings relief, there must be some value to the promises. Do they fail to meet our need because our concept of religion is at fault? Have we made religion a denominational creed with a white fence around it representing man-made laws, or are we permitting what we call our religion to be a single and direct line of contact between God and ourselves? Is this frenzy of living full lives so overwhelming that we fail to take a half hour each day to think positively, gratefully, affirmatively about the good that is already ours? To think about good is to think about God. To think positively is to be secure in God’s goodness. To think affirmatively is to have faith in that goodness. To think gratefully is to open ourselves up to a love that can overflow to everyone we meet, and love is without question the greatest solvent in the world. People who love are invariably happy and selfless, with an inner strength that carries them protectingly through the deep waters of our human existence. It is impossible, therefore, to think with God, talk with God and then listen to God? Are we not beset with problems because we fail to use that direct line of communication between God and ourselves? Are we not beset with problems because we fail to cultivate God? How to cultivate Him, you ask? Gratitude, positive thoughts and love are simple ways of cultivating God, ways anyone can easily adopt. When what we call “our religion” becomes a warm, joyous, practical relationship with God, good, we will have all the help we need constantly and consistently, a help upon which we can always depend. All we need do is practice communicating with God. 30
