Spring Ready Skin Flaky, dry, itchy skin will improve as the weather gets warmer, the humidity increases and heaters are turned off. But to help the process along: • Shower or bathe using lukewarm, not hot water. • Keep bath time below 10 minutes, unless soaking in a tub with bath oil. • Pat, do not rub, your skin dry and immediately apply a moisturizer. • Exfoliate 2 - 3 times a week. • Consider swapping your moisturizer for a serum which has a much lighter feel and allows the skin to breathe recommends Kathryn McGraw, Skin Care Expert at Stella Nova Spa & Salon in Charleston, SC • Try a self-tanning product. Be sure to exfoliate before using the product of your choice. • Be sure you use a moisturizer that is also sun protective on a daily basis. Use the same product for your neck, arms and legs – any area exposed to the sun.

Oral Health & Pregnancy During pregnancy, the chemical composition of saliva changes, reducing it’s antimicrobial capacity. In fact, gingivitis is the most common oral condition associated with being pregnant. It’s important not to avoid dental checkups while pregnant as certain untreated conditions can put mom and baby at risk of infection. - Academy of General Dentistry

The 5-Minute Face 1) Prime Your Face & Eyelids: Choose primer that is illuminating to give your skin a glow, or color correcting for uneven skin. For eyes, use a matte eyelid primer. 2) Eye Makeup: Start with a light nude shade from lash line to brows then go in with a soft light brown using a pressing motion to apply to eyelid. Last, go in with a darker brown on the lash line. 3) Foundation: Make 5 dots on forehead, each cheek, the chin and the nose. Blend outwards to prevent a makeup line and to help keep color concentrated in the center where it should be. 4) Blush: Dot crème blush on the cheeks and work outward using a pinching motion all the way up to your temple. 5) Lips: Use the same crème blush color and top with a shimmery pink lip gloss. 6) Set: Lightly dust powder on the center of your face to absorb any excess oiliness and to set your makeup. 7) Bronzer: Apply where the sun would naturally touch to add a glow: your forehead, cheekbones, bridge of the nose and chin. Blend to avoid any harsh lines. 8) Mascara: Apply last to prevent powder or excess color from settling on your eyelashes.

Insider’s Tips Navigate the Spoleto Festival USA and Piccolo Spoleto with the help from seasoned festival-goers and producers. "Do not bother with crowded parking garages and the walk to venues. We use Black Cab and Green Taxi, which I booked days ahead; well worth the $8 fare in the city." - DeeDee Arthur, Enthusiastic Patron "Keep in mind that there are tons of performances on weeknights, so you don't have to limit your planning to just the weekends. Most Piccolo Spoleto shows are general admission so arrive 15 to 30 minutes early to get good seats together." - Brandy Sullivan, Owner/Performer/Producer, Theatre 99 and Piccolo Fringe "The Spoleto Festival ticket kiosk in the uber air conditioned Charleston Visitor's Center lobby is the best place to buy tickets. You avoid the fees, have better seating selection and have access to insider knowledge. Most of the staff have attended previews or rehearsals and will make recommendations. Carry cash. Many local venues only take cash at the door. Check out the Artist Talks with Martha Tiechner. These are usually free and feature internationally recognized performers." - Colleen Reilly, Director, Kaleidoscope Arts Festival; Assistant Professor, Theatre at Sippery Rock University; House Manager, Piccolo Fringe at Theatre 99 "Don't let ticket costs "scare" you away. There are plenty of tickets in various price ranges and several free events. Be adventurous! Pick one show or event that you might not ordinarily see and go with an open mind. Art is everywhere! From Marion Square to installations around the city, look around and you'll be experiencing the magic of the season. " - Jennifer Buddin, Enthusiastic Patron and Piccolo Fringe Performer; Every Busy Woman LLC "Attending a weekday performance can be tricky with a traditional work schedule, but the Bank of America Chamber Music Series is a great place to look if you want to get out of the office for an hour or so in the afternoon. Chamber performances run twice a day (11am and 1pm) throughout the 17-day Festival and are located in the beautiful Dock Street Theatre. These concerts are a wonderful (and affordable) way to spend a lunch break. Afterwards, grab a sandwich from a nearby deli and head back to the office feeling culturally refreshed." - Jessie Bagley, Marketing and Public Relations Manager; Spoleto Festival USA

BUSY WOMAN TIPS INTERIOR DESIGNERS

Ginger Brewton Interiors

Grow Your Own Vegetables and Herbs Leslie Wade, community garden coordinator for the Charleston Parks Conservancy, shares basic tips for getting started: • Sunshine: Choose a spot that gets six to eight hours of sun daily. • Water: Learn about the water needs of the plants you’re growing. For example, once established, herbs do not need to be watered as regularly as vegetable plants. • Fertilize: Use organic fertilizers such as composted manure, worm castings, bone meal, blood meal, seaweed and guano. • Drainage: Plants need to breathe. Add compost to the soil or rocks in the bottom of a container so the roots don’t suffocate and rot.

We asked a few photographers to share their favorite wedding shots with us and tell us why. We feel the love! “This photo is my favorite as the bride and groom had a close family death the day prior to the wedding.
