T

he Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) degree program at EU Business School is based on an effective combination of courses, seminars and research papers which culminate in one final dissertation. It educates managers, business leaders, executives and scholar-practitioners so that they may: Gain a deeper understanding of the business and management processes in an increasingly-complex world through applied research, teaching and scholarship; – Improve the performance and quality of their business decisions through reflective practice and learning; – Help companies and organizations solve critical problems and foster an environment of performance excellence; – Make a difference in the global business community through service and implementation of ethical standards within social and professional organizations; – Learn how to creatively solve existing problems using critical foundation theories taught by faculty members with extensive academic and practical backgrounds.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at EU. Their flexible program allowed me to continue working while studying. I found the courses and teaching methods professional. The faculty members were knowledgeable and approachable; and I was able to discuss new trends and topics with professors who were always open to debate and ready to offer their assistance. Atalla Zojaji, 2010 Graduate

PROGRAM STRUCTURE EU’s DBA program has a research-based curriculum, which teaches using practical business cases and consists of applied research, as opposed to fundamental research. The DBA can be completed over a period of up to five years. Students may earn their DBA in as little as two years. The program consists of two major parts:

YEAR 1

1 Pre-dissertation seminars >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2 Research seminars YEARS 2-5 3 Research and proposal development

THE PRE-DISSERTATION PHASE The pre-dissertation phase takes a minimum of one year and students may start at the beginning of any term (October, January or March). The objective of this stage is to provide students with the theoretical and practical foundations of the primary and supporting fields of study. The study plan describes how the students’ educational interests and objectives will be pursued throughout their time in the doctoral program. Each course lasts two days and is given in seminar form (two nine-hour sessions). The study plan is unique since it places emphasis on bridging the students’ educational activities to their personal, long-term career goals. The program also encourages them to pursue independent research, publishing, consulting, travel and teaching. Teaching methods may include: videos, case studies and literary reviews, which are all used to establish a firm link between traditional management approaches and the most recent operational developments. The DBA seminars, seen in the column to the right, are the core portion of the curriculum. Student progress and participation is evaluated in each of the subjects through a research paper (or alternate assignment required by the instructor).

The four parts of this phase are listed on the right. Candidates are required to attend a final oral presentation to defend their dissertation. The jury will consist of external examiners who are both experts in their field as well as senior academics.
